Anyone else ever feel that on these forums they are invisible at times? It can be a lonely place that’s full of people talking. Some threads seem like they are only meant for certain ‘cool people’

I’m actually finding the forum more diverse at the moment- with many newer forumites posting and starting threads, such as yourself, OP.

As a friend said over lunch the other day, I have always stayed in the periphery of the forum- never been really included, and there was a time I -really- tried, years ago, when I was new and young(er) but now I think I actually prefer to be the outsider as I don’t get any drama and I can still benefit from the forum when I am bored haha.

The forums have always been cliquey. I think people should just do their own thing and stop worrying about what other people think.

In my experience the fact that you don’t get much public attention doesn’t mean that people don’t notice. Just be yourself.

I just take the approach of posting in threads that interest me and I feel I have something to contribute, some of the forum games that tend to attract the regulars and name checkers but by no means all, and if people notice and engage that's lovely but I don't feel offended if they don't.

I tend to value more wordy interactions anyway.

The only difference I've noticed in my time using the forums is the number of people using them to give a nod and a wink to conversations they are already having in their off-site chat groups.

It just adds to the belief that cliques exist and can often make newbies reluctant to take part and more established members who aren't in on the joke to just roll their eyes.

As a single guy it often feels like you have been overlooked in forum threads, especialy the "erson above" type threads.

It happens. I like to think it it not done on purpose and when it blatantly is, i like to feel that it is noticed and others, will think that persons a bit of a twat for doing it.

But in general, the forums are a friendly, welcoming place. Keep at it and one day, one day in the far future, you too, could be part of the clique 😉

I wouldnt give an online forum or random people on the internet the power to make me feel lonely and lost. I randomly comment on threads im interested in or for a chuckle. If someone chats or replies to me i will answer if they dont i have still given myself a chuckle thats how i view it.

Some people will naturally gravitate towards each other like they would in real life doesnt always mean its cliquey however there are some cliques on here.

I dont think there are any "popular" people on here and if someone does think that their "popular" then they need to give there head a shake.

If you are looking to genuinely connect with people then I would advise other ways to do it, if you are in to clubs, there are socials, even meeting people in vanilla activates.

Forums are in general clique based, the people who deny this often don't realise they are part of the clique, the cool people as you put have put the hours in to be noticed, some don't have to try as hard as others do.

Look at it like walking into a new pub, it takes time to become part of the furniture, before other people say high or chat to you.

Sooner or later though you become familiar enough to others to ask how you are, unless your the dickhead that no one wants to share a drink with.

It isn't worth worrying what strangers think about you, especially on a forum.

I have the same approach everywhere I go, I might get on with a few people, I might get on with only one or no one at all, I'm not for everybody so I don't worry about it. But the people I do get on with, I'll get on very well with.

I don't put that much thought into the forums...if it makes you feel lost and alone, I would take a step back.

I usually drop a comment in then forget about it. It's when a forum topic turns into a conversation between a select number of people (which could be taken to DM's) happen, I find off putting...and when I see it, I just won't interact with that thread.

It's difficult to reply to every comment without dominating the thread. And sometimes people only respond if they have something to say. It doesn't mean your comment is overlooked or ignored. Feeling lost or alone is normal. I've felt like that sometimes too. I either take a break or I get stuck in. I hope you're feeling better OP. As a geek, I was never cool. Simple way to get attention is go against what one of the ' cool ' people say 🤣 works wonders and is quite funny when they get passive aggressive over a text and use really big words in an effort to try to intimidate you with there knowledge of the English language 🤣

But I dont see you (OP) being that way inclined .. and never go against who you are

I enjoy being invisible. I like being able to write my own thoughts down, and bugger off 🤣

Being a lurker as well, I have found that new posters who instantly want to gravitate towards the "cool bunch" don't particularly have a better time on here. There's no denying, that comments made daily, are not particularly in favour of some poster's behaviours and would you want to be associated with that?I think concentrate on creating threads that get people interested and talking. Make your own group of people to be cool with. The "cool people" are outnumbered, so you'll have more success and people to talk to, if you concentrate on the ones who don't want to be part on this so called in crowd.

In a galaxy far far away

I wouldn't say people are invisible on the forum, as their comments are still read, even if not replied to.

On a lot of my threads, I'll create a topic and rather than replying to everyone who posts, I prefer to get people talking amongst themselves and I sit back and enjoy reading the replies.

There a lot of threads I avoid, like the smash or pass games, the secret message game, or other matchmaker ones. They can get a bit clique.

But I generally just post random rubbish and try to be funny to make me laugh. I like improv comedy and if I can make a quick joke on a reply it makes me laugh.

If it makes someone else laugh it's a bonus.

But don't take it to heart if your not always replied to, it's not possible to reply to everyone.

The best advice I can give you if you do feel a bit ignored, is to make threads yourself. That's the best way to talk to people on the forum on a subject you like, as you can reply to them, and they reply to you etc

I have actually found this forum surprisingly less cliquey than most, as long as you stay in the lounge

During my first couple of months of posting I've had several side pm conversations from members who have messaged me first. Plenty of my comments quoted and replied to.

However, if 3 members say basically the same thing, it's natural for a member to reply to the person they know best, that is not ignoring the other 2 comments, just subconscious human nature.

I would add that, just because your comment hasn't been replied to, doesn't mean that it hasn't added to the quality of debate. So keep contributing.

I've experienced both sides of this coin

When I was younger, properly single, attending socials and had free time to spend on here, I often received responses to comments made as well as private messages from forumites

Now, I wear the cloak of invisibility

It doesn't bother me because I don't really have the time, the inclination nor the patience to keep up the

impetus

So bobbing in saying a few words and leaving kinda works for me

However, I do see how others would become frustrated by their lack of perceived visibility

I reply to forums to keep myself entertained mostly, if other people are interested in what I say then great, if not it’s no skin off my nose. I’m on here for me, speak to some great people from the forums separately some that there’s a sexual attraction to some is purely platonic, and there’s some not so great people. And I’m sure people put me in all 3 categories as well depending on who you speak to. It’s a big world on fab so at some point most people will probably feel invisible, don’t take it personal or to heart

You don’t want to make the forums be your be all and end all. The forums are just a place for you to do your own thing and if you connect with someone through your posts, that’s just an added bonus. But, don’t let it take control of your emotions. If it is, you might need to step away.

I post everywhere and anywhere. On posts I like, topics that interest me or if I have a viewpoint I want to get across. And sometimes just to flirt and catch someone’s attention.

It’s meant to be fun at the end of the day. If it stops being fun, then it’s time for a breather.

"I don't put that much thought into the forums...if it makes you feel lost and alone, I would take a step back.

I usually drop a comment in then forget about it. It's when a forum topic turns into a conversation between a select number of people (which could be taken to DM's) happen, I find off putting...and when I see it, I just won't interact with that thread."

I don’t feel lost and alone. I have felt left out of some forums. I’m still learning and just wondered what everyone else thought.

"It's difficult to reply to every comment without dominating the thread. And sometimes people only respond if they have something to say. It doesn't mean your comment is overlooked or ignored. Feeling lost or alone is normal. I've felt like that sometimes too. I either take a break or I get stuck in. I hope you're feeling better OP. As a geek, I was never cool. But now being geeky/nerdy is cool. Express yourself 👍🏾😊"

"I enjoy being invisible.

The "cool people" are outnumbered, so you'll have more success and people to talk to, if you concentrate on the ones who don't want to be part on this so called in crowd."

Thank you

"I wouldn't say people are invisible on the forum, as their comments are still read, even if not replied to.

That's the best way to talk to people on the forum on a subject you like, as you can reply to them, and they reply to you etc"

Good advice thanks

I think the perceived 'popular' forum posters are simply the ones who spend a lot of time on here and start a lot of threads, therefore becoming more prevalent or 'well known'. I think it actually has nothing to do with popularity at all.

I would just dip in and out, as and when you feel like, and if its having a negative affect on you, maybe step away for a bit.

People who use the forums regularly notice everyone.

If you're a single man that spends most of your time blowing smoke up the arses of single women and couples then you'll be generally ignored.

If you're a single man and you come across as 'weird' you'll be generally ignored.

Some people just aren't cut out for this online malarkey and telling someone to just be themselves can sometimes be the worst advice you can give them.

The thing is that as an OP you have to strike a balance of answering every post yourself or leave people to interact. I post on topics that I have somethin to say even if is just a bit of banter. I create threads that I enjoy like lots of food ones and tbe like. If one person posts fine, if not still fine too. The friendly thread I have been doing for years, one day there might be 100 and more people on, other days nobody at all. I usually still post to just say hello, good morning etc. I just like interacting with nice people with no agenda and there are lots here. There are some that after all these years they have never once responded to anything I said even though few minutes later responded to same comment from someone else. Noticed, yes, bothered me, no. As others said some threads have become the playground of a few people but hopefully not anyone is intentionally excluded though perhaps the point is that everyone should feel included. I no longer do those as when I used to do one I genuinely put a lot of effort into ensuring everyone felt included and even then I probably missed one or two. Everyone gravitates to different people topics and tribes just like in the real world. It is what it is, never let it affect your emotions and if it does, withdraw for a bit and come back. I did that once for some time as I let someone, dare I say one of so very popular ones here, get to me and I felt harassed. I will never do that again or let anyone on here affect me that way. So many nice people here, takes time to know them. Give it time. Incidentally your last 4 threads in just a day or so averaged over 60 posts each, so can't be bad

I have seen many come and go over the different times I have been on here. There will always be a school element of cool kids who all talk to each other, pick each other in games and reply continuously, re quoting each other for half the thread. While certain people get ignored entirely. Usually newer people.

Some people come in, make some relevant or amusing comments and get noticed, some people come in here and get noticed because they are very attractive (or just nearly any female really), some people come in and comment relentlessly in every thread and make 8 new threads a day and just try way too hard to get noticed but it basically has the opposite effect and people steer clear of them.

Pick threads you have something to add to. A joke, a helpful comment, sarcastic but clever wit, a reference to your personality trait. Don’t chase every woman that posts in your thread or act ‘overly nice’ to them all.

We can’t all be in the top 10 most popular, there are so many people in the forums, some will get left out, just purely because of numbers

For me the forums are a microcosm of wider life.

Do I expect everyone in life to like me or what I have to say, or agree with my views, absolutely not. Does that stop me from trying to be a decent bloke, find common ground with people, make new connections. Also absolutely not. So why would I expect Fab Forum to be any different.

I don’t do anything for popularity, anyone who has got involved in my threads would know that, most of them are on the silly side and many of them “fail to launch “

I also recognise that without interaction the forums fail, so I try to engage with as many threads as I can where I have something relatively sensible to say.

I have not observed any clique like behaviour, maybe I’m too naive to spot it. I do know that there is rarely a week goes by where I don’t interact with someone new and I think that’s a real positive.

Everything on Fab is optional, so people should make the choices that suit them best.

Anyway that’s my thoughts, opinions and experience here. I make no claim to them being any more right or valid than anyone else’s.

Who are the “cool people”?

What exactly are you expecting in terms of interaction and who from?

A little light external validation feels great but seeking it too hard isn’t good for you. Also it often feels like everyone else is chatting in messages but they’re not. Or at least I’m not 😅

It's the best way

Like I mentioned in my original comment, and also by Diamond.

Use the forum to be daft, silly, funny, don't take anything too seriously.

I find with comedy in the forum a lot of people naturally engage with it, leading to everyone quoting eachother being stupid.

But if no one replies, don't worry about it, just continue being silly to entertain yourself.

I just wondered how people feel. I’m not looking for anything other than a laugh and some new friends. Maybe cool wasn’t the best choice of words but it kind of fits with those who get lots of interaction to things they post.

Sometimes I get replies sometimes I don’t

Been in and out the forums for nine years now and it’s never much bothered me "

Haven't read the entire thread because of what I'm about to say:

Nobody should need an exclusive sense of validation from others. Yes it's nice if people see you. They don't always, straight away, but maybe if you keep on being yourself and not trying to pander to the imagined audience, one or two other real people might see the real you that you are and reach out.

It might only be a friendly non-sexual DM or a reply in forum that tells you they read what you said and felt a response, and that's OK too.

"The only difference I've noticed in my time using the forums is the number of people using them to give a nod and a wink to conversations they are already having in their off-site chat groups.

It just adds to the belief that cliques exist and can often make newbies reluctant to take part and more established members who aren't in on the joke to just roll their eyes."

Yep, it's all a willy waving exercise

"I wouldnt give an online forum or random people on the internet the power to make me feel lonely and lost.

And also this....The Fab Famous is a myth....Only famous in their head.

Back in the day I was a moderator on the BeNaughty forum. Very cliquey sometimes, but we tried to be welcoming to newbies and shut down the bullies.

The forum hasn't changed in 14 years. Just different people doing the same things. The forum attracts a certain type. I'll leave it there.

"Anyone else ever feel that on these forums they are invisible at times? It can be a lonely place that’s full of people talking. Some threads seem like they are only meant for certain ‘cool people’

What yo ur experience? "

I don't give it much thought. I share my thoughts on topics that interest me. I don't care if others disagree or ignore me.

Best to take this site with a pinch of salt tbh

Forums are ok but it's normally the same people complimenting each other over and over again. Dependent on the topic of course.

But yeah mostly invisible myself unless I stir the pot a tad.

Just be yourself though, I refuse to be fake, you either like me or you don't.

I find that feelings such as this are less about the place ( forum ) and more about how a person connects with others. It may very well be that those who feel they are not getting interaction here feel very much the same elsewhere.

Most if not all of what I post is ignored, do I care? No

Did I used to care? Fuck yes

I am at that age where I don't give a fuck about things I used to and honestly it's bliss my brain is so much quieter

Don't think that way.

Lots of people on here may look like they are having a ball, chatting away, photos flashing their bits or at least their best bits.

But look at it this way.

Its a weekend night, they are at a keyboard or a mobile typing away with people they have never met, probably never will meet and trying to be sexy.

Its quite sad, so don't envy them, get yourself out.

You live in or around a very vibrant city, there are loads of things to do.

If nothing fits the bill, set something up yourself.

I'm positive if you put a post on here for a pub meet in your area for singles and couples, everyone welcome. You'd be banged out.

We did it some years ago, first pub meet about 6 attended, few months later almost 60.

You will get a massive amount of dreamers and timewasters but ignore them, do what's good for you and other like minded people will follow.

Never do yourself down and think everyone else is having the fun, because they ain't, its all smoke and mirrors.

Very sad as its so easy to have a great time, just a tiny bit of effort and good humour.

Good luck.

Always happy to chat.

You're welcome.

Your verification shows you are a friendly, chatty guy.

Great strengths, never underestimate them and use them as a strong platform to build strengths in other areas.
