Someone I know with a top media job has said there’s a media embargo on the fact that this new variant is spreading fast and we could be locked down by mad Friday. The only reason it’s not likely to be sooner is based around the Xmas economy. What do people think?

I think its amazing the amount of people on a swingers site who either specifically know, or know someone who knows, what no one else in the world knows and that they are all too often someone very high up, or very well connected.

Too early to say if it's pressing fast because the variant has just arrived. If course it probably hasn't just arrived but if that is the case, given its more transmissible I would expect to see a sharper rise in cases. Nothing in the data suggests that.

Doubt very much that the government have imposed a d notice on this current variation and it's impacts etc..

Even a hint of a sniff of any media suppression would be like a red tag to a bull..

Far easier to conclude that the government once more are muddling through..

The person who said this also said they are totally over this (like most people I guess) and are hardly pro government. As for drip feeding I’ve only mentioned it here to see what people think in an appropriate forum page. I doubt this thread will cause a mass panic and the UK will run out of toilet roll!

Governments have always done soft news to gauge public reaction - but an embargo on news is entirely another thing in this regard.

'Don't tell them that we are doing it by telling them we have embargoed you not to tell them? Really? lol.

A simpler - under consideration approach - or a JVCI are meeting to discuss - or Plan B is being looked at etc etc etc is far more plausible.

Someone i know who has a job in Downing Street told me that the recent rule changes are so that come the 17th BoJo and Co can reverse the changes and say “Have a Merry Christmas everyone”.

BoJo and Co will then release a Christmas single recording a new version of the Shakin Stevens song “Merry Christmas everyone”.

Everyone will buy it because the the chip will be activated in the vaccinated and the anti vacs will be told it prevents Covid by Karen.

BoJo scoring a No.1 will then retire from Politics and start a new career in musicals where he will star with his various offspring in a new production of the Sound of Music.

All told to me buy a person who works in Downing Street.

Me and my family will not be following any lockdown rules, I don't care what people think of what people say.

It's caused too much misery for adults and kids alike and it's making mental health among young people worse and worse.

The PM can't even stick to his manifesto promises as is and then we find out while we wasn't allowed to see anyone last year they were all cuddled up partying inside parliament!

I love the way people think they have an option to "not comply", if there's a lockdown... the shops, restaurants, pubs, schools and many work places are shut. So you're going to be restricted either way, yes you can go to your friends house (if they want you) but we'll all be fairly locked down.

business has to feed the shareholders, so there's no way we'll get a full lockdown until the new year, if at all, until the rich folk can get suitably richer. sad state of affairs i know. xmas last year should have been cancelled, and we came out of other lockdowns early cos of business too, but which PM (and they're all lying corrupt folks anyway, no matter which way you vote) wants to go down as the most unpopular in history. still the best politics line was from the hunt for red october - 'ryan, i'm a politician, which means when i'm not kissing babies i'm stealing their lollipops'.

Is the raising number of cases causing an increase in hospital bed usage?

That is the main reason we went into lockdown, as there was concern that hospitals would be overloaded.

Last I heard the new variant symptoms were mild, so that seems unlikely.

At the moment there are around 7500 people in hospital with covid at it highest that figure was nearly 40000. ICU we are at around 900 people at its peak it was 4000. Both are creeping up but very slowly. Since the majority of the UK population have been vaccinated there hasn't been huge jumps in hospitalisations or ICU even when the amount of cases of covid jump up. Of course no one knows what difference omicron will make.

I’m working with a major brewing company to look at a scheme to relocate the head office to a new building. Their advisers have told them that the government are working on every form of restriction other than go into a lockdown again.

Basically the pot is empty, no more business support loans, no more furlough, on that basis if they did issue another lockdown whose going to abide by it if your livelihood is going to disintegrate before your eyes.

Media embargoes don’t have a timeline - there’s many things that have been kept under embargo we just never find out out them.

Surely one of those statements excludes the other?

Winston

*specific timeline - it is usually an agreed period where media are supplied info and release at an agreed time. The person in question isn’t a journalist of any sort and never has been.

Maybe I should have just asked the question ‘Does anyone think we’ll have another lockdown before Xmas’ "

You missed my point.

"there’s many things that have been kept under embargo we just never find out out them"

If we never find out about these embargoes, we obviously would never hear about them.

And yet somehow, you have.....

Winston

To be very blunt about it :

I don't care if they say lockdown or not. I won't be.

I have been vaccinated, three times now.

I followed the rules while they broke them. I lost money, business and missed major family events to 'flatten the curve' and 'protect the NHS' - all while government ministers partied in No. 10 & advisors drove all over the country to 'test their eyes'.

I won't make that mistake again. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

No more.

"Someone I know with a top media job has said there’s a media embargo on the fact that this new variant is spreading fast and we could be locked down by mad Friday. The only reason it’s not likely to be sooner is based around the Xmas economy. What do people think?

My mate down the pub knows boris & he’s said that it’s a load of rubbish "

He's only saying that cos he knows he gets an invite to the No. 10 Xmas party when we're all on lockdown

Lockdown is such an emotive word, and I feel it will not be used in quite the same way again.

It will be reframed as a "firebreak", and by any other definition will be a lockdown.

To appease businesses that rely on physical customers (eg, bars, pubs, eateries, entertainment venues, etc) they'll be told that they *can* open and continue to trade *but* only by following certain criteria.

So not a "lockdown" per se, but restrictions on how they trade/operate seem very likely and I suspect some of the onus will be shifted on to the customers as well as the business owners.

There will be always new variant ..

(Greek alphabetic have lot more letters)

So they slowly following it..

They don't want to stop it just slowing down and keeping flow like a small tiny river ..

People not taking seriously at all.

Not even the second one did..

I personally deeply affected by every moments 'cos made me loose my 3k/m business and with it my 11yrs what I built up.

Only the first LD was streetsweeper after a nuke explosion view feeling.

To be honest .. they must create a completely different "tale" to make people scare again ..

I think

" Nothing in the data suggests that."

Except the data says that infections are increasing. https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/healthandsocialcare/conditionsanddiseases/articles/coronaviruscovid19/latestinsights#cis

. I've been vaccinated three times and I tested positive for Covid last week. Thanks to selfish people whose FreeDumb was threatened by having to wear a mask. The people who got fooled, as you put it, are the people who keep voting for this government. And there are plenty of them, now they've legitimised lies, racism, selfishness and stupidity.

Go on, be brave, don't try to contain the virus, kill someone. Is that seriously what you want? I don't think it is.

"Is the raising number of cases causing an increase in hospital bed usage?

That is the main reason we went into lockdown, as there was concern that hospitals would be overloaded.

Last I heard the new variant symptoms were mild, so that seems unlikely.

(bear in mind I haven't been following all the latest)

So, you were vaccinated and still caught it. Were you also wearing a mask and social distancing?

After two years it is surely obvious that covid will be with us forever. I'm sorry you got ill but realistically, what can you, I or anyone else do to prevent it that is compatible with actually living and not simply existing?

We've been vaccinated. We followed lockdown rules. We wore masks. We socially distanced. We worked from home. We gave up all the things that make life worth living and STILL covid thrived.

We have to live with this virus. Yes, live, not exist in social limbo & an eternal state of fear.

Lockdown felt wrong from the beginning. The actions of our government just confirmed it - we obey, they play.

Enough is enough.

That covid 'thrived' despite all of these measures means not enough people were following said measures.

So a lockdown that allows people to go out to bars pubs and shops and restaurants, fly off on holidays.. ? I see.

Sorry but that's just wrong.

Compliance exceeded even the most optimistic expectations by a wide margin and it still wasn't enough.

You simply can't eliminate covid. It just isn't possible in our modern society. Controlling it means unsustainably harsh restrictions indefinately.

I'm not making that up, it's what actually happened and is still happening. Even New Zealand & Australia have given up on zero covid strategies. Only communist China retains it and is only able to do so by incredibly harsh measures that are rightly unacceptable in free democracies.

Lockdowns have failed. Covid is endemic. Time to get on with life.
