Together we learn to read and write

A child is black

A whole world looks upon the sight

And now a child can understand

Time or the want

Things like believing in this are cult like or religion like.

No amount of showing facts to people will change their mind. They twist the evidence to suit their belief.

It is exactly like religion. The facts without doubt prove that God and all the rest is absolute bollocks bit people will carry on.

The flat earthers are a special breed. Im still not sure any of them actually believe it as the stupidity is just beyond what is possible .

If someone can't see it's a globe when your own eyes tell you. No one will ever convince them.

"So if the earth is flat, why are the other planets round?"

They are all a flat disc.

I'm getting confused now.

Against a flat earth - The sea would spill off the edge if it was flat.

For a flat earth - imagine being at sea and out of sight of land. You look forward and see the curvature of the earth. You turn 90 degrees and see the same. If you turn back halfway (45 degree position), you should see a dip between the two curves. You don't - Boom!

I'm sure if it is flat it is held on the back of 4 great elephants that sit on the back of a world turtle called great a'tuin that is hurtling through time and space..

For a flat earth - Australians would fall off if the earth was round.

Against a flat earth - if you took a direct flight from the north pole to the south pole, all routes would be the same distance.

My mate Dave has one of those drinks cabinets with a lift up lid that's like the world and that's round not flat, so the earth must be round.

"Surely you should see the curvature?"

Nope, to be able to see the curvature you need to be at least at some 37,000 feet and even then it is only just discernible if you have a clear horizon and a wide field of view. Go higher (as many military aircraft do daily) and the curve is easy to see. From the ISS (up at some 250 miles it's not even a question of looking: the curvature is right in your face.

Try here for a fighter plane view (English Electric Lightning):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyjZ0besnYY

quote: "The horizon is a pronounced curve of light blue becoming progressively darker until directly above, a circle of black sky appears, and with it, the edge of space." ~ Rupert Smith, Lightning alum

No one seems to have remarked on this

Plus the earth is supposed to be spinning at 1200 miles an hour , how do planes manage to land in the right places?

??

You do realise that just to complicate your thought re that 1200mph that it only applies at the equator? As you go north or south from the equator the speed decreases until at the poles it is 0mph as you are simply rotating on your axis at 1 rev every 24 hours.

Methinks you need to dig deeper into the physics of the problem. "

I don't think a clairvoyant would be much help.

"Flat earthers believe in the Pac Man effect. Which is that when you get to the edge on east side you reappear on the west side. They believe this mostly because they are imbeciles.

the bunch on tv this morning were complete imbeciles..could barely string a coherent sentence together between the 3 of them..it was funny, but not so funny when you consider there are people out there stupid enough to listen to their drivel!

The imeciles of this world amaze me there are still millions (and living outside of an asylum) who believe that some 2000 years ago a pair of Penguins walked unaided from the South Pole to the Middle East in order to board a ship commonly known as an Ark! Does make you think "

.

Penguins are from south Africa in the main!.

Just saying like

"Ok first thing first I’m a non believer in the flat earth theory, however I have travelled with Work mainly in the Far East. To be honest I have never seen the curvature of the earth!!

Never!!

Look out of the window in a plane on s planet that is supposed to be 7900 miles in dis, at 5400 ft approx 1 mile surely you should see the curvature?

No one seems to have remarked on this

Plus the earth is supposed to be spinning at 1200 miles an hour , how do planes manage to land in the right places?

??

.

It's actually only 900mph and the effect is called the Coriolis, the best way to think about it is two people on a merry go round one at the centre and one on the edge, when throwing a ball between the two people it wouldn't travel in a straight line but a slight arc.

"I heard this on Radio 2 with Jeremy Vine, Jeremy asked why all the water doesnt just run off the flat earth and this clown said its because there are ice walls and mountains at the edge to hold it all in and that Nasa and the governments are all conspiring not to tell us the truth about the world being flat.

I'm sure if it is flat it is held on the back of 4 great elephants that sit on the back of a world turtle called great a'tuin that is hurtling through time and space..

I know this to be true as terry pratchett told us so. "

Why would they

Central

Some people are so desperate for specific types of attention that they'll feign belief in anything, or do almost anything to get it. I'm guessing that there are probably less intelligent and sane-minded people than I can count on one hand that truly understand the earth to be flat.

If you knew that then you should also know that planes move relative to the atmosphere which spins with the Earth...so when you take off the ground spin away below you

"The ink is black

The page is white

Together we learn to read and write

A child is black

A child is white

A whole world looks upon the sight

A beautiful sight

And now a child can understand

That this is the law of all the land

All the land

The world is black

The world is white

It turns by day and then by night

A child is black

A child is white

Together they grow to see the light

To see the light

I used to sing that in primary school. One of my favourite hymns "

I always liked...

Dance then wherever you maybe I am the Lord of the Dance said he...

No reason for saying that other than it has the same relevance as believing the Earth is flat..

ie: None!

You need to be a bit more specific there given the poster we are replying to expressed a problem with this.

Actual speed at equator is 1,040 miles/hour.

Coriolis effect is actually the effect of the earth's rotation on the atmosphere surrounding it.
