"I can’t connect with someone if they don’t have a hobby, I certainly wouldn’t dismiss someone for having a hobby, even if it’s something I don’t like, my FWB loves watching snooker, I’ve sat with her and watched it bored to tears, but she loves it and gets something out of it so I’ll just be a good friend and enjoy her enjoying it. I’m a massive gamer btw, and some of you have a very simplistic view of what that is." I’m a gamer too, but we have to acknowledge that some people take a hobby and make it an obsession that interferes with everyday life. There is a toxic side to any hobby and gaming is well documented

"Football. Met so many people through work who are just at a loss for anything to say when you don’t have any interest in it. They’re also the most tedious people to be stuck between, as they gleefully tell each other where the professionals all went wrong last game- based mainly on them once scoring two goals in a Sunday league match 25 years ago" This might only work if you're foreign, but it rarely takes more than four instances of the word "soccer" for the most insufferable football fan to fuck off and leave me alone. I was unlucky enough to be caught in a small group of larger men (being polite) talking about the teams that they follow, and the conversation went along the lines of, “We need to be stronger and quicker in attack………” I desperately didn’t want to be judgy, but something inside me was screaming “We !!!!!” Which one of you fuckers is lacing his fucking boots on ……..

"No hobby makes a person unattractive really, not if it is a passion of theirs. I love to see a spark from someone who is passionate about their hobby. Most autistic people are socialised enough to be capable of changing the subject occasionally and realising that not everyone shares your interest. "The thing with gaming is that it's all about the attitude you have WHILST you're gaming. If you treat them as a form of escapism, as a way to relax, blow off steam, have a laugh with your friends, and most importantly, have fun, then there's nothing with gaming. The problem is that way too many people take it way too seriously. And I think that's the reason why so many people have a negative view towards gaming. It's because they're picturing the stereotypical gamer in their head. The perpetually online, toxic dipshits who rage when they're killed in a game, are deeply misogynistic, sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, etc. The type of people who think gaming is about being ultra competitive, shouting slurs, saying they shagged your mum, and threatening harm when they lose. Gaming is one of the most toxic communities I've ever been a part of and I absolutely refuse to call myself gamer because people just assume that you're one of the aforementioned dickheads. As for time spent playing them, I can spend hours getting lost in a video game, but I don't see that as an issue because I'll actually be doing something constructive with my time IN THE GAME. I'm playing a game called Planet Crafter. The objective of that game is to turn a Mars-like planet into an Earth-like planet via terraforming. You're making the planet hospitable by exploring, locating resources, and building different tools / machines using those resources. It might not sound like much, but it's good for problem solving skills. It makes you think "so in order to do this, I need to build these items so I have to find these resources". And it's genuinely fun too, which is all that should matter at the end of the day. If you're having fun, who cares what you're doing? I'd never shame anyone for their hobbies, but give me the choice between spending three hours terraforming a planet or watching reality TV, I know which one I'd pick. " That was a good read thanks. However, you are not terraforming a planet, you are using a computer game. I could be impressed to listen to someone who has picked up knowledge and skills on such a 'game' only to be disillusioned to discover that they are incapable of transferring those skills into reality or of leaving their own home and communicating with others or even empathising. Reality T.V and computer games are not a good fit for comparison. Neither of them should be judged as negative; it's the time spent engrossed in them to the detriment of all else that matters as you point out in your second paragraph. I need to go and think about my hobby/ies and put more effort into thinking why.

"Cooking if they just send photos of their cooking, no attempts at conversation, the few words they send are so fucking boring and generally about what they've cooked. Photography when they only send over their photos or talk about what they're doing, the rest of the chat is mindnumbingly dull. Reading dark fantasy. No Ethel, I don't want to hear about how well written you think they are whilst you rely on AI to form a paragraph. Gaming when it becomes in lieu of a personality and they're not able to talk about anything really bar gaming and dodgy views. Any form of physical activity where it's all they talk about and they're a twat about others. Football. Wild swimming. Rugby. Sure there must be a curling twat around. Fab. When the world seems to revolve around Fab and the conversations are them spitting feathers over daftness, being a twat, fucking people. Guess it's more about how it's approached." I need to go and think about my hobby/ies and put more effort into thinking why." I understand and appreciate that it's just a game and I'm not really terraforming a planet, but whilst I'm playing it, I'm learning about the process. Obviously, it's a video game format so it's not a 1:1 demonstration of terraforming a planet, but it's close enough that you're still learning something. It's the same with a lot of games. For example, Assassin's Creed is a fictional story set against historical backdrops and part of those games is seeing specific historical moments play out in a fictionalized setting. Again, they're not always 1:1 and due to the story being mostly fantastical, they do take some creative liberties, like Rodrigo Borgia probably wasn't a Templar, but you do spend a lot of time learning about specific historical events. The Crusades, Ancient Greece, Ancient Japan, London towards the end of the 19th century. The story is completely made up, but the events surrounding it are completely real. The reason I compared video games and reality TV is because of the difference in how they're used. Video games are active, you're an active participant in them, they can't progress unless you're driving it forward and at the same time as I said, you're learning something. Reality TV is passive, all you're doing is sitting on a sofa watching other people do something. I don't think either one is a waste of time if that's what you enjoy doing, but with video games you are at least doing something, even if it's not in our world. As for being disillusioned about people not able to transfer those skills into the real world, why? The things I've learned playing video games are no different to what you might learn from watching a film. Knowledge is as valid a skill as carpentry or rock climbing is, in fact it's probably more important to be knowledgeable in a wide range of subjects than it is to be skilled in carpentry because knowledge is a part of our critical thinking and decision-making skills. We use our brains every single day. And video games are a great way to gain knowledge and to hone those skills.

"Hypersomniacs, especially on holiday. Don't know if its a hobby, a habit, or medical condition, but guys who get plenty of sleep at night (over 9 hours), and then take every opportunity during the day to take long naps with little interest in anything, except more sleep. That’s often a symptom on an underlying health issue, possibly depression or heart problems. Yep more.than likely but im betting we all know that person who is just a couch potato. You seem nice lol

I am , just a realist 🙂 and scared to point out things I see in fear of upsetting the apple cart. There are lazy people in the world , but its not pc to call them out !! So more people jump.on the band wagon and then we end up in a world full of bine idle people 🙄 But just my opinion , which i know isent the popular one , but world would a boring place if we all had the same ones

"MAMILs taking up the road on weekends. " You should try it. Infuriating entitled range rover drivers is immensely satisfying. At first I was doing it on my own, but there was still room for cars to pass, so now I bring some friends to ride two abreast. Amazing!
