Sports massage

I've been reading and trying to get a decent price for my wife as her knee is painful.

She is mid 60's and had knee pain at work before she took early retirement 7 years ago.

The pain is aggravated by almost daily brisk walks of 1.5 miles in 35 mins.

Its just the knee she wants done and possibly a light massage on arms/legs/back/be//y etc.

I've emailed a few over the weeks and none came back bar one, 135 quid for an hour.

We are local to Dartford i Kent.

What do you feel is a reasoble price and would sports massage help?

Btw, the Mrs has had x-rays and most recent was 2 months ago and they said "take pain reliefe tablets." She does and sprays. I've told her to cut down on the wlaking but the walking and the cut back in cakes etc has bought her down to a size ten and every one says she is too skinny. She was never more than lower mid weight but I think she does not want to put weight back on espcally the tummy as most was lost from there and even the breasts to my surprise.

I'm also fearing that a sport massage may aggravate the knee

What do you guys think and what price would be fair for a home visit man/woman or if we went to their house as most practice from home.

Why a sports massage? Personally I’d go for physio or osteopath. I’ve used the latter for several joint type issues over the years - sport and not sports related. I find that they’re better at treating you holistically .. for instance a knee issue I once had was due to the way my foot twisted when I walked.

The private physio I'd go to, with a massage therapist attached, charges £55/hour for massage - I'd maybe bump it up 20% for in home and a bit more again because I'm in the north.

£135 I'd way over the odds. I pay £45 for 45 minutes.

But a sports massage will do little good. Go and see a physio. Though the issue could be as simple as her choice of footwear.

Walking 36 minutes a day in your mid 60s is not excessive and is right to explore solutions rather than cut back on the exercise. And a sports massage nor physio won't aggravate her knee

You’re being taken for a ride with those prices. Personally I’d go for a Physio or a Sports Therapist. Both would charge around the same price and both would advise further appointments. The Sports Massage is a good treatment but unless there’s a diagnosis, you wouldn’t know what the stem of them problem is. Keep us updated

Honestly, as a masseur, go to see a good Physiotherapist.

Much better use of your money.

Hello all

Many thanks to all that have posted here and the two guys that sent us PM's.

I agree with most of what is said and the 2 PM's - it is more a physio thing and Mrs has seen a physio before via NHS for foot/heel pains and knee. We will look ito that and possibly consider private physio

Definitely recommend the private physio route, I used a local physio who worked wonders, brought back mobility & voluntarily brought treatment to an end - was told I was able to do exercises on my own. I had an initial consultation and 4 sessions, one per week, all told it cost me about £140. I hope you find what you need

Our sports massage therapist is £50 for the 1st appointment and the £45 for any subsequent 45 minute appointments.

Are there any physios withi 10 miles of Dartford and offer special rates for itnial assessment and block booking special rate if required, ie physio programme and monitoring etc, please?

What would be an ideal rate for intial assessment and lets say, 3 appointments for rehab exercises?

Even today the Mrs went out for a brisk walk and now wearing a knee support stocking and slight limp when out to the shops. We have tried various insoles for her trainners etc, they helped but not a great deal. Cheers in advance

Given the geographical span of the forum, you're probably better off looking on review sites, local social media etc.
