Attic Update 27/05/24

Jump to newest

By *he Attic OP   Couple

Derby

After our final building control inspection which successfully took place on 21/05 the club is extremely close to opening. All that remained was for our architect to update the existing drawings and resubmit to building control. This was done on the 23/5 and once the drawings have been signed off we should be good to go. Simply a case of joining up the dots we hope. See you all soon. X

Why is there always such an issue with the shoes? It's well advertised what the policy is and it's not exactly a big ask? Majority of clubs are dress down now, so wanting people to dress a bit smarter is a nice touch

Since the Attic has been offline we have visited other clubs where the dress code is strictly dress down. To be honest I think we prefer this now, it’s a great leveller. It can feel a little off putting when you are dressed down and others around you aren’t.

Of course, it’s personal choice, but maybe specific nights could be dedicated to it ? I would also like to suggest a couples only night, _he attic never seemed to host these. We have nothing against single guys, we sometimes only want them, but couples only nights are also really nice.

Any chance ?

Always a chance, any and all option have been discussed and open for discussion. In the interim, the club just wants to open and operate as needed, then who knows what the future holds. From a club Pointon view, nothing would please the club more than give you all want you want, from a business standpoint those decisions have to be made in line with turning over income to sustain the business. Its a fine balance but all ideas welcome

Totally agree with this, I don't understand why anyone would have a problem with making a basic effort.

With regards to dressing down, I like to see well dressed guys not ones in dirty socks and a grubby towel.

With so many clubs to choose from in midlands I am surprised how many have suggestions for the Attic to “improve”.

We tend to travel round different clubs, means never gets stale and seeing same faces every time we venture out and we can choose the club that suits our mood.

The Attic probably ticks most of our boxes most regularly. Like to think of it has something for everyone on most nights. Looking forward to seeing the opening date and testing the dungeon out

As you didn’t directly quote a post it’s hard to know who you are referring to but I would like to say that at no point have we ever suggested the need to “improve”. Suggestions from us are just that, suggestions, and we certainly don’t expect our likes to be appealing to everyone else so don’t really expect them to be implemented.

In the most part the venue ticks all our boxes too and we love going. We would never suggest “improvements”, that would feel a little disrespectful to be honest.

In the Midlands there are alotmof clubs that are dress down clubs so we offer a club that is a bit different, yes we might not be for everyone but that's good, if we were all the same it would be boring.

Yes we have looked at different nights, different ideas and listen to other feedback.

I always used to be naked after 10 pm , is that I can't do anymore?

Suggestion: Monthly one night dress down party can be considered.

To be fair if it was just a new ladder you might scare a builder or two who are renovating the old location into flats.

2 new stair cases, over 9 metric tonne of plasterboard, miles of cables what feels like enough paint to cover the Forth Bridge, 41 new doors, but no new ladder.

Think it's fair to say the age old saying - you can't please everyone- fits well, in this thread in the lifestyle, in clubs and pretty much life in general.

The lifestyle isn't for everyone

Clubs aren't for everyone

And a particular club may not be for everyone.

But each and every club offers what they offer for their own reason, be that to fit in, be different, demand, gap in the market, change, whatever it maybe.

. I was a regular at the old Attic and I always turned up in a shirt or polo shirt, smart jeans and nice shoes, dress restrictions shouldn't just apply to single guys, I've seen guys that turn up as a couple wear flip flops, shorts and t-shirt and just because they are regulars and know the staff they are allowed in.

It doesn't look good when the majority have made a big effort and dressed to impress.

I love the club and the people that attend but please apply the same rules to everyone

Smart isn't the same as expensive or designer, and "chavy" by its very nature isn't smart.

You never had rooms to rent, there used to be a house at the end of the old place but that was sold years ago.

The new place doesn't have accommodation but there are a number of hotels close by.

Is there lots of parking? As I know a lot went double yellow and there were very few spaces close by.

Loads of the units/offices have gates to prevent the travelling community (not that I have a problem with them before it starts a disagreement)

Ascot drive itself is double yellows so you can't park on that road.

There is street parking in streets close by.

Yes businesses in that area do have gated entrances.

We've been going to _he attic for over 10 years, and have seen the times where there was very little enforcement to the dress code to where it is now with smart jeans and shoes. I'd like to keep it there as smart casual, because I wouldn't feel comfortable in suit trousers and shirt. If I'm not you're type because of this than I can accept that. It shouldn't be changed. The only stricter rules should come in the form of setting that as a minimum standard for everyone. I'm inclined also to agree that the club does not need to introduce dressing down as there are plenty of clubs offering this alternative. The club is unique the way it is and we'd hate to see any drastic changes. The club has come such a long way from where it started, to a place where it really does cater for everyone.

Don't worry, it will remain smart casual but before we have been more relaxed on Thursdays amd Fridays with the dress code ie smart shoes not trainers.

In the past some people have rocked up looking like they have just got up of the sofa and not made an effort.

I've always said that it should be smart shoes, trousers or smart jeans and shirt/polo top. Need to make an effort.

But please check the website for clarification.

Personally, I see a polo-shirt as a T-Shirt with a collar. They don't look "smart" at all.

This gets my back up..it is 2024 not 1924 and it is up to others to decide in what they feel comfortable in. Clubs are for those who like to be their true selves when unable to do so in public. It is rude to discriminate against others whether their gender/sexuality or how they like to dress. Maybe next time be more considerate when making comments

To be honest, I'm assuming that their intentions were to express their disdain towards those who don't meet their own exacting (archaic) standards.

Building control are a Council department, I wasn't more specific as I wasn't sure which department needed to sign off, it also could have been licensing or planning.
