Combined contraceptive pill issues

Hi just posting on here to hear whether other people had similar issues and what they did about it…sorry it’s a bit long

So I went on the pill (Yasmin) last August in an attempt to ease PMDD symptoms. After a month I noticed a massive improvement in my symptoms and very short bleed during the pill break which I thought was amazing. Whenever I had a pill break though I would get low mood and headaches (but nothing like what it was like prior to going on the pill) so I started taking a 4 day break instead of the standard 7 days. All was fine up until January and then I started getting worse mood swings and pains around the time of the pill break. I then started to take the pill continuously to avoid this but I would always get frequent period like pains around the time I would usually have a period.

I contacted my GP about this and her recommendation was to continue to take the pill continuously as she said my body was likely still getting used to the medication. I’ve had 2 months without a pill break and I feel absolutely horrendous, mood swings, pains and sadly the sex drive has fell off a bit.

I’m just a bit mystified how it was going brilliantly for a few months and now I feel worse than before I went on the pill. I started going to the gym more regularly at the start of this year and I just wonder if hormonal changes relating to that have affected how my body processes the drug… I don’t know, it’s just a fucking mystery to me and I’m fed up of feeling like shit because of my hormones

I feel like coming off it but I am dreading the potential migraines and other side effects

Has anyone else experienced something similar and what did you do

Thanks

I think the hormones affect different people in different ways tbh. My friend was put on antidepressants and a coil simultaneously and says she's had a massive drop off in her libido, which could potentially be to do with one or the other or maybe both combined. I certainly know that when I was on antidepressants for a while I lost all kinda sexual impulses.

Speak to your local pharmacy and pharmacist. The pharmacist is your medication expert and having a chat might help you. Always explain your full symptoms and any meds you take. They might be able to spot something and if they can't they refer you to your GP x

Hiya thanks for replying, yes I’ve already messaged the online pharmacist I got the medication from, waiting for their reply. Last time I contacted my GP I feel like they didn’t really listen to my concerns, though I will contact them again and hopefully speak to a different doctor

The pharmacist just suggested to take a reduced 4 day break and to see my GP about perhaps getting antidepressants for the PMDD (I’ve had them before and I can’t tolerate them . )

Maybe you could try another version. I know there are a few different combined one... I use microgynon 30 for the last 4 months and Al is good...maybe that one doesnt agree with you. X wish you good luck with it.

I've been diagnosed with PMDD and I can't take anything hormonal at all. I get by on 60mg of Prozac a day and self help (basically damage limitation) It isn't always something that will have a curable treatment, I have come to accept it for what it is
