Will do, thanks to all that have replied so far. Anecdotally and locally, friends, colleagues have been infected twice….. mostly in the last year.

Again, I have a job where I do meet many people indoors and even with mitigations this still represents an increased risk of catching the virus relative to the general population

I now realise I’ve had covid at least twice, once in January 2020 which I caught whilst in Orlando but obvs couldn’t be tested for it, once in March 2022 where I tested positive with both lft and pcr. I worked the whole way through all the lockdowns in a security capacity so was dealing with other people in close contact (searching them and their belongings) and during 2020 mainly without PPE. It wasn’t a good time and my marriage failed as a result of pay cuts and emotional pressure on both of us. I’ve had all the jabs but have thought long and hard each time about my reasons for doing so. I had to test regularly (every four days) for work once tests because available, but no longer test or feel the need to. If I am unwell I will stay home until I am better.

I no longer wear a mask unless “forced” to do so eg in hospitals or at the doctors nor do I use hand sanitiser or practice social distancing, however I do wear gloves at work when searching.

Thank you for being so candid. Hypothetically question, again maybe a question being asked by many members, if you are in a job where you are higher risk of being exposed ( again you would have to look at this in a long term look), would you consider changing your job?

I don’t think it’s relevant now, the potential for exposure is everywhere (or nowhere if you’re if that mindset), I’ve had my jabs, I’ve done my time in the risky zone, why would I change career now? If I was going to change jobs I’d have done it at the start of the first lockdown when we were exposed to international import risk with no PPE.

Personally, I am not in a position to change employment however , again anecdotally, I know a lot who are and are vulnerable and are seeking more Covid safe employment

Zero positive tests

Partner had it before vaccines were available and nearly died. I had to self isolate because of a positive test in the household, no need for me to have one.

I ended up with long covid for 11 months with breathing difficulties, couldn't get any medical help with long covid due to it not being recognised at that time, and later on because I had never tested positive for covid

I had the chest infection this spring and it was confirmed not to be covid, just two years of cold viruses ganging up on me. WAlkin in dept to the rescue, doctors surgery;useless.

Been exposed to it numerous times….had 3 vaccines, later than a lot though as had to wait for AZ due to allergies.

I get one either spring or autumn every year. Miserable week to 10 days everytime. Not needed steroids for a while, prob cause I can't get a doctors appointment

Three times.

Brought it back from GC the first time - had had jab #1 around 3 months beforehand. Was really ill, lasted well over 4 months.

Eventually felt well enough to have second jab. Second positive was 2 weeks after jab #2. Really ill again.

Third time was about six months ago - only poorly for about 3 weeks.

Felt ill again a few months ago, could have sworn I had it based on previous symptoms - felt exactly the same - but test said no. I reckon the test didn’t pick it up.

3x times, first time awful. Other times wouldn't known if i had to test for work (nhs).

People say common sense but when you're working in an environment with it can be hard at times. Natural human behaviour.. I.e rubbing eyes and so on. But glad I got vaccinated.

Hope you were not too ill when symptomatic.

You raise a very important point - how many times we may have actually been infected v testing positive. The likelihood is that we probably all have been infected but without symptoms as well as symptomatic infections

No the 2 times I had symptoms I wasn't poorly at all really.

This 1st time was pre jab in December 2020 I lost taste completely for less then than 24 hours, For about 18 hours before that my taste was a bit funny and everything tasted sour but when it came back it was quite quick. I lost my smell completely for about 3 days Other than that I have no symptoms. The 2nd time it was mild cold like symptoms. I've been very lucky, But also odd is my husband has only tested positive once.

I will also add a doctor has told me it is possible for people to test positive for several months after infection. Most people will test negative quite quickly and almost everybody before 3 months but there have been cases like mine where people have had no symptoms but still testing positive so I guess we just don't know. "
Wasn't there something on the pcr literature that said not to get tested again in a certain time frame for this reason? Or am I misremembering?

if you had covid you should retest for 90 days after on pcr.

Hope you were not too ill when symptomatic.

I will also add a doctor has told me it is possible for people to test positive for several months after infection. Most people will test negative quite quickly and almost everybody before 3 months but there have been cases like mine where people have had no symptoms but still testing positive so I guess we just don't know. Wasn't there something on the pcr literature that said not to get tested again in a certain time frame for this reason? Or am I misremembering? if you had covid you should retest for 90 days after on pcr.

This And yes you are right about not testing for 90 days but there are some people that will still test positive after that so it's possible I've been one of them when tested positive with no symptoms.

Not necessarily there is a bug going round at the moment that is affecting taste and smell that isn't covid and is very similar to a chest infection but again not.

Vaccinated people are very unlikely to lose their taste and smell with the current variants of the current variance it's of covid. LFT'S are fairly accurate.

I had it twice ( well, that I know of). First time I had in January and it was awful. And the second time I caught it in August. Both times left me in pretty bad state. Still not completely recovered.

I haven't been meeting and it's finally caught up with me after 3yrs.

I suspect eldest picked it up last week or so ago at work he was bad last week and now me.

Started off sticky mouth like the start of tonsillitis, then a tickly throat lots of coughing on and off.

2 days later real nasty cold 2 days.

Feeling a little better today.

Luckily had all the boosters being over a certain age and with asthma & had double pneumonia in the past!!

Hopefully no airway issues inhalers working.

I haven't been out much, not meeting, barely been shopping, but still caught it.

Twice as far as I can recall.

Most recently from a birthday party mid-2024 where somebody present had it - we found out later - and had decided to turn up anyway. Many there were working in the hospitality sector, so I don't get the mentality...

I'm counted as vulnerable so I still get the jabs, obviously more a mitigation rather than a protection from infection.
