What was the strangest/hardest/stupidest rule you had to follow or adapt during the pandemic?

Was it not seeing anyone out of your household but you could if you worked with them?

Not touching and elbowing only?

Using hand sanitizer all the time?

Wearing masks?

Standing 2 metres apart?

Not leaving your zone?

Having a legitimate excuss to be out of your house?

There are so many more I guess....

I was meeting a couple in at my place the police had set up a roadblock they were stopped at roadblock and asked where they were going, they couldn't say they were coming to mine so he said I'm going to get fuel the copper looked at his fuel gauge said you've got enough and turned them away lol

Being unable to watch my local non-league team play the biggest game in their history (FA Cup v Blackpool) on open terracing and in the fresh air...yet could watch the game inside the clubhouse yards away on big screens, and the place was rammed! Stupid and irrational so I didn't bother

I don't think people would follow them after knowing about the Downing Street parties. I couldn't form a bubble as I live with two adult children. My son couldn't form a bubble as his girlfriend houseshares. My mum couldn't form a bubble as she lives with my dad who has dementia. So we were all supposed not to see each other for months.

I think it will be very difficult now ..

it was previously something unknown and never experienced before (a lockdown of such magnitude)

the trust and faith in Government is at an all time low knowing they were continually breaking the rules they made

and with Liz Truss at the helm….well…

Having to sit in a car outside the hospital and take turns about sitting with our dying mum as the 3 of us werent allowed in the same (single room) as our mum at the one time, only when her breathing changed could my 2 sisters join me and be with our mum as she passed

There were conflicts of some common sense amongst them. And a severe deficit of morality at the top. But we were largely a very morally upright people. We should be proud of ourselves. Overall, we made substantial differences to what the levels of harm could have been.

I loathed people being made to die, without loved ones.

Don't know if it was a government rule or not , but the amount of service stations that had their toilets closed wasn't good so I had to keep showing them the Gov email stating that they had to give access to HGV drivers. Some still argued that they were out of order until I threatened to piss or shit on their forecourt

Probably at work was cleaning the employee locker doors every hour - we had about 8 members of staff in at the time so none of the lockers were being opened or touched except the ones of who was in and we were told to clean our own when we touched it so was a wasted shift if you were on cleaning locker duty as it took about an hour to clean them all to then start again knowing no one had touched them in that hour of you cleaning them

Sure a lot the rules were stupid, unenforcable and in some cases truly cruel. But we all knew how it was transmitted. If we showed a little more common sense and responsibility at the time we wouldn't have needed quite so many variations of rules.

But while I'm on... The 4 levels were a bizarre one... You could nt travel from one to another but you could work with people from all different levels. Oh and people from other countries could just fly in and go anywhere... It was a tough time let's just learn from it. As we will have more down the road that's for sure.

Sadly, some people are still very much following at least some of the rules (which is entirely up to them) but are also forcing others to follow them when there is no need. My colleague insists on everyone wearing face masks all the time when they're working in "her" unit even though our workplace rules only say to wear masks if you're within 1 meter of a service user.

The most ridiculous thing is that more than two years and millions of deaths later some people (changed to make it polite) can't get into their head that it was a very serious virus that had the capability to kill many more until the vulnerable and those that didn't know they were vulnerable had a vaccine and the virus mutated into something a lot less serious.

Yes there were some very silly rules but they were legislating for the lowest common denominator, idiots that did't seem to be able to think for themselves.

And they say hindsight is a wonderful thing .....

9 euros or more,and only in pubs who sold food as well as drink, some pubs who wouldn't have kitchen facilities got round it by getting in pizza ovens and serving pizza for 9 euros ,and if i remember correctly you could only stay for 105 mins even with the €9 meal

Some of the rules may have sounded odd but most when explained made sense. We're not an island for nothing? Kept out Napoleon,Hitler etc. If we'd shut the airports and ports for a few weeks it would have cost millions but saved so much in the long run? I suspect heavy lobbying of the government by the travel industry was at the bottom of this?

"What was the strangest/hardest/stupidest rule you had to follow or adapt during the pandemic?

Was it not seeing anyone out of your household but you could if you worked with them?

Not touching and elbowing only?

Using hand sanitizer all the time?

Wearing masks?

Standing 2 metres apart?

Not leaving your zone?

Having a legitimate excuss to be out of your house?

There are so many more I guess....

No idea,didn’t follow any of the pointless rules full stop out of principle."

I see plenty of moaners still around, pretending covid wasn’t real. Obviously didn’t get it when it was at its strongest, or lose any loved ones.

Not been able to see my dad when the government were throwing parties!

Spending 7.5 hrs a day with my work colleagues but not been able to see my own family after work

Local lockdowns... no one near me paid any attention

Not been able to sit on park benches

The eat out to help out fiasco... eat out and get covid more like

Sounds like the “I’m a real rebel, I disobeyed a rule” principle.

Probably refuses to wear a seatbelt too because that’s what “they” want us to do

Never really found any of the rules a big issue.

Wear a mask all day for work, wash my hands regularly etc, no drama there.

The distance rule etc didn't find it too much of an issue.

It was brilliant to have Paul at home for such a length of time.

Social life took a bit of a bashing and work was incredibly busy.

Seems like an eternity ago now. For us, things are pretty much back to normal.

121 meets. Tick

Clubs. Tick.

Swingers holidays. Tick.

Swingers party. Tick.

Yep, normality back.

Correct. Amazing to see how poorly some people seem to have understood the advice. It’s almost as though they deliberately got it wrong.

I think hindsight is a wonderful thing. And I think people are forgetting how genuinely scary those first few months were.

Some of the rules seem laughable now bit at that time there was no vaccine, no treatment and a real risk of people dying. The need to keep society functioning and people safe was an impossible one to balance

Now I am not one to defend the Gov over some of the things they did over this Covid but some comments ( not just on here ) are exactly what I meant in my previous post . I think there are a lot of people who don't like rules so were being pedantic to twist what was said to suit.

I think sometimes they wouldn't have been able to win with the "rebels" as whatever was said they would find something to complain about or twist. Hopefully those rebels didn't lose anyone close while being that rebel

I did wonder over a couple of rules at the time but if you thought of it logically most of it made sense.

You didn't have to have a scotch egg with a pint nor did they say it was an accompaniment..it was an example of the size of the portion of food that you would need to have so you could have your pint.

The singing is pretty obvious to me, if we had to be two metres apart from people in case we passed on a virus then I wouldn't want anyone spraying any germs onto me by singing, especially if it was anyone who sang very badly like me, that would be a double whammy
