It deffo was. And to an extent it’s still dominating our lives but in a weird way.

Take for example I am in Spain at the moment.

The two food tours I had booked have both cancelled due to the guides having covid but then I came here on a packed out plane where masks weren’t required.

I suppose all I can take from it is I feel the guides have good morals to let people know even though I am a MASSIVE believer in ‘life must go on’

Yes. It's still a thing. My hospital out patients appointment earlier this week was cancelled as the Consultant had Covid.

Was it ever a thing ?

I sat with my 26 year old son and had to tell him that I'd help make the arrangements, if his Dad didn't make it out of hospital. He's a paramedic who caught Covid. He was lucky to survive, but has permanently scarred lungs. Huge numbers died due to Covid. Something tells me Covid can be very serious and is very real.

If you need details, consult the many publications with peer-reviewed evidence in them.

The UK managed to return to some sort of new normality through millions of people having been vaccinated, in conjunction with other measures. The virus helped somewhat, by evolving into the current dominant strains that produce milder symptoms for many.

It's currently waning in the proportion of the population that are infected in the UK. It's been repeating waves of infection, rather than just an annual wave, simularly to flu.

That said, it's still able to kill and to spread easily, as the new variants are more infectious.

It's still worth taking protective steps, as we may be someone in a chain of infection that results in someone's death.

Long Covid is also very debilitating and many have not recovered, since infection over 2 years ago.

It's probably going to be around for some time, maybe forever. Better expertise and treatments means that we're in a much better, safer place.

Lost my mum to it. Yes it was a thing.not only lost her to it. But it tortured her to death gasping for every breath for 4 weeks.

It's good for you if your life was not touched by it.

Hopefully it's no longer a thing. We will find out soon enough in winter.

I'm not sure there will be as much trust in the science, nhs, govt et al though.

Yes it's still a thing. Yes it has been a thing since the beginning. My Mum and I are the only ones who haven't had it so far from my immediate family of 14 (including two under 5's). My youngest sister is still recovering and a couple of them have had it twice.

I have another relative who was in hospital recently for something else, who caught covid while in there. They died about a week later. It wasn't covid they died of, because they were already ill with something else, so having covid on top, wouldn't have helped.

So let me give you a first hand experience. We believed the scientists and the Government and for over 2 years we were ultra careful and didn't socialise in any number for over 2 years. We are fortunate to work from home which makes this easier.

The other weekend, we let our guard down and attended a wedding.

Guess what, the male half got COVID-19.

Fortunately, the female half escaped it and is currently away on vacation.

So, let me try and educate the uneducated! The wedding was on Satuday! On Tuesday, I was due to play golf, bit of a dry cough so being responsible and wanting to protect others, I took a COVID-19 test that was negative - all good, so off I went to Golf.

All was good at Golf until the end, when I literally hit the wall - I had ZERO energy and I have no idea how I managed to drive home!

Tuesday night and Wednesday during the day, I honestly thought I was going to die, I couldn't breathe, I couldn't move, I had no energy and I was by myself!

If it quacks like a duck, it probably is a duck, but I didn't test positive for COVID-19 until late Thursday evening.

Today is Saturday, I still feel awful, but I am getting there. Energy is improving slowly, I am eating a litte.

I no longer think that I am going to die, at least not immediately.

I hope that this has helped to educate the uneducated!

Flu, covid and colds are all very different although can have very similar symptoms.

However cold and flu generally do not have any lasting side effects. You get it, you get better, no problem.

Covid can and is still leaving people with long term and sometimes permanent health issues.

The vaccine helps alot.. still sometimes not nice catching it..but it's stopped so many dying... which was the point.

My pregnant daughter refused the vaccine as she was pregnant but now is regretting it. As she recently caught covid and was very ill with it... she has now got a blood clot on her lung..and struggles to even walk a flight or stairs now. Before covid she was fit and healthy 24year old

The Covid vaccines weren't designed to prevent blood clots, they were designed to reduce the symptoms and effects of Covid. Which they did, and continue to do, remarkably well.

Omg. So sorry for your daughter. I'm so lucky with my lungs. I had the cough, fever and fatigue but within a week I was back at my manual job. I wasn't short of breath so I knew I wasn't going to die or have serious complications.

It must be so scary, especially being pregnant.

To be honest I got ill and tested positive for covid. I felt ill but it wasn't major I do recall feeling alot worse when I've been ill over the years. I had a headache and I lost my taste and smell for a few weeks. Other than that I was ok it was when you didn't have to isolate anymore but I took a week off work so i didnt pass it on to my co workers. But what my point is is now its almost asif it never existed. So what was the point? And no i haven't had any vaccines

Firstly, The issue is we are only now seeing the long term effects of Covid infection - it damage multiple tissues and organs. See SARS1 sequelae after 10 years.

Secondly, the virus has been shown to still exist, albeit and very low levels, in Long Covid sufferers. Viral persistence is causing deregulation of their immune systems.

Long Covid numbers continue to rise with successive waves to the point now that even the Federal reserve in the US have calculated that LC is costing the US 1% of GDP( a staggering figure) and rising.

It’s not gone away, it still exists. How many more waves will it take for us to realise that Long Covid is the great threat to us?

My friend died of Covid, she didn't have any underlying conditions, if she hadn't had Covid she would not be dead. She did not die "with" Covid, because there was fk all else wrong with her. She did not have the vaccine

I had Covid last November, I was very poorly. I still can't smell things properly. I would not like to have taken my chances with it unvaccinated.

So yes Covid was and still is a thing.

As someone that worked in the middle of the covid storm, who regularly advised doctors on what wording a cause of death should take on a death certificate and advised registrar's on what was and wasn't acceptable on a death certificate, I'll take the bait.

Still a thing.

I was triple jabbed, I wasn't badly Ill, but had breathing issues and exhaustion for 3-4 months.

No preexisting conditions.

I'm fine now. Would not recommend.

I've seen friends my age (40s)end up in hospital, even life support.

It is mainly the vulnerable that get

it worse but it does still get the supposedly fit and healthy people too.

before the vaccines, there was a lot of evidence to suggest that my daughter (who has a disability) had a very high chance of dying if she caught covid. Due to the mortality rate being much higher in people like her.... the vaccines improved her chances a lot. She is still very careful. As am I. And so far she has managed not to catch it

I went ro Cannes last Juky and caught covid on my last day tested negative all day till I got home and tested positive.

I didn’t believe it initially and thought it was all bullshit…. Until I caught it and had nearly three weeks off work. Never been so ill in my life!! I’ll never forgot the fever and that nauseous feeling, still to this day… my smell and taste hasn’t returned to normal. Also every other week I feel rough, not sure whether it’s long covid or it’s damaged my immune system.

There actually maybe some sense in this. Most people I know that got really ill the first time have been ok the 2nd 3rd or even 4th time. Regardless of vaccine status. Know a few people who got it mild the first got it bad the 2nd time. Makes sense the more ill you get generally the more antibodies you generate,I say generally as things like this are never strictly empirical. The one thing we all know is you are less likely to die or get very ill if you are vaccinated. We all need to choose to have or not have any vaccine.

It’s definitely a thing. I work somewhere that I got to see how bad it got when it was killing people at the height of it. There are images from them I won’t forget, and I guarantee if they’d played on the news, nobody else would forget them either. And they wouldn’t wonder if it was ever a ‘thing’.

A couple of months ago, a guy I knew in his late 50s felt ill on a Thursday afternoon. He tested positive that evening. By Friday night, he was dead. He’d worked right through the pandemic, cleaning a place that had to stay open and keeping people safe. Turns out though that he was an antivaxxer, and had zero immunity.

I had my booster today. Damn my arm is sore, but fuck it, better a sore arm than a wooden overcoat!

this is certainly not what I've been seeing amongst our residents and they are all vulnerable. Since the vaccine and boosters, we have seen very few cases and those that have caught it, its been very mild.

Yep we both caught it a couple of months ago, luckily we got it mild. My dad died from complications due to fighting off covid and my mum and sister still have after effects from it when they caught it before the vaccines where made. Also have a friend who a A&E nurse and she has told me horror stories during the height of pandemic of people of all ages getting rushed in with covid and working near 16 hour days. While we now at point where we can live with it, it's still here.

No surprise cases are going up as we move into indoor living again. Wouldn't be a bad thing if people started washing hands and spacing out and stopping coughing on eachother.

Agreed, it wouldn't hurt if people want to do that

We went out today, the place was busy so we used a mask, there were a few people using them too. However stood in a queue the people in front were laughing at the "people with masks" so I said, well I have covid but if my mask bothers you I can take it off, just be careful where you are facing when I cough. They stayed quiet after that

( we don't have Covid )

Cases seem to have gone up since Schools went back, funny old thing.

It isn't the same as flu

The 200,000 people who died from it and their families will think it is a big deal.

Add that to the many people who have been left with health issues after having Covid and the people with long Covid and they will probably think it was a big deal too
