Newcastle and Gateshead

This may be the party deflection…

Rumour doing the round is that boris may announce the covid plan b is going to be introduced…

Working for home where possible and vaccine passports coming…..

Let the arguments begin…. Again….

Could also be why the smoking gun of the party got out - because the no restrictions faction are mad that restrictions might be coming

The issue will be wether anyone follows any new guidelines following the debacle of “the party”. I’ve voted Tory most of my life, but this is probably the straw. Total lack of any credibility,

One department where I work have cancelled their Christmas party.

The others are still going this weekend. Be interesting to see what’s said about socialising.

We will continue to wear masks and be sensible because it's the right thing to do for us and to protect others. However if Plan B is put in place I don't expect people to comply given the way that those who put these rules in place constantly flout them then don't have the bollocks to face questions and criticism. They're just taking the piss out of everyone who's suffered this past 20 months, they have no respect for those who've lost their lives or for those who've worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic to care for others

Quite possible this is simply being 'floated' to move the conversation on. PMQs not far off, which if Starmer does the job he is supposed to, should provide a lot of talking points re Xmas-party-gate.

Can’t imagine the majority of people would take this too well. Introducing new restrictions in the wake of getting caught breaking restrictions.

They laughed about the party and they’ll be laughing again if people stand for this.

When I first realised that I was governed by people considered to be elitist, a prime minster was forced to resign due to the Christine Keeler scandal, when other ministers where caught doing wrong they resigned.

why because they had to lead by example and there was no excuse if caught doing wrong, they would apologise and resign.

now I see there is an excuse I wasn't there, I had no idea, it wasn't my fault and keep their jobs the only exception was matt handcock.

I think the data is still unclear. Whilst the new varient is more infectious it's yet to be known whether it is more dangerous if people have had the vacinne or have been infected already.

We have to remember our immune system is more than antibodies. Having dealt with a similar foreign body even if it can recognise the new varient exactly it has a blueprint to work from and measures it can deploy.

If the data causes concern responses will be needed but let's see the data first.

Correct vaccine passports wont stop the spread of the virus amongst the vaccinated. The idea behind vaccine passport is to prevent unvaccinated people mixing in large groups inside bars, restaurants, gigs etc. This strategy is thought to be a defence against the unvaccinated filling up the NHS beds.

Just had a quick look and whilst the infections trend is going up'ish, the death trend is down.

The key bit I can't see is hospitalisations, if this gets too high and impacts other services being delivered that is when other measures will need to be considered.

Their solution? Make more school kids wear masks and enforce vaccine passports in outdoor areas. Genius."

Could it be that masks and vaccine passports are not 100%, but they are partly efficient and therefore part of a suite of measures that all help?

In other words, how much worse would France's figures have been without them?

Vaccines are the closest thing to a silver bullet, but as every country in the world knows, there is no perfect solution. Else it would have been deployed.

"Won’t be complying with this … vaccine passports don’t stop Covid just ask France … not about health and all about control

Control? Please elaborate…

There is no scientific data stating that vaccine passports help stop the spread…

My question was about your comment regarding "Control" - can you elaborate or not?

That was elaborating you just can’t connect the dots … so I will do it for you

If there is no scientific data stating vaccine passports stop the spread , then why would they implement them if it wasn’t purely for control? As it clearly isn’t for health reasons as it doesn’t stop the spread. I’m just following the science

"

If that is the case, should we extend the passport scheme to include other factors (such as obesity) likely to increase one's chances of needing NHS care in the event of contracting covid?

Yes, I understand that a tiny % of people really do have asthma to the extent that masks concern them. There aren't any excuses for the rest who won't/don't - apart from the badge they don't need to wear.

It probably is a deflection but if it is then it is a strange time to announce it after what has been happening the last week about parties etc. I am not sure they will get the people who were on the fence about restrictions wanting to do it now even if it means cutting off their nose to spite their face

We will just carry on doing what we have been doing, being careful what we are doing and keeping away from people who are potentially not

China and Japan introduced Citzern Passports a few years ago and it has evolved from a health status app into an app which includes their pay, tax, driving allowances, housing status based on a points system.

example a good citizen who goes to work, commits no crime and adheres to the state system may be allowed more points and enter into more public spaces.

A bad Citizen may have points removed and less access to public services and less points means less money, more tax, fines etc.

Sound impossible just google Austria, Germany, Australia and France as they are doing it now.

and it was allowed by the public of those countries because they were told it would help hold back covid.

The thing that has struck me is how the people keen to use coronavirus to attack Boris/the government are all in favour of even MORE controls.

Those of us who want more freedom are just not represented in the public square where the 'debate' is either authoritarianism or even more authoritarianism

All society is a balance of protection and liberty. Where that balance lies is the stuff of every political debate ever.

What's more important right now, to me, is that the government believe they're above the law and are actively laughing at us about it. Even more so than they've already done.

Yep, right on cue SAGE have produced a forecast saying there COULD (key word) be 1,000 hospitalisations a day by the end of December if new restrictions aren't introduced. Despite the fact not a single person has been hospitalised from this new variant yet, and the fact they admit they still don't know how severe it is (although all the signs are it's milder).

How are people still falling for this b*llshit?

Correct vaccine passports wont stop the spread of the virus amongst the vaccinated. The idea behind vaccine passport is to prevent unvaccinated people mixing in large groups inside bars, restaurants, gigs etc. This strategy is thought to be a defence against the unvaccinated filling up the NHS beds.

If that is the case, should we extend the passport scheme to include other factors (such as obesity) likely to increase one's chances of needing NHS care in the event of contracting covid?"

So is the aim to prevent beds from filling up or not?

Regardless of contagiousness, if you want people to make active choices to keep themselves from unnecessarily taking up hospital beds then you have to include everyone, not just the unvaccinated.

Pile of wank. No science behind this at all. What science they do have (aka Prof Lockdown’s predictions) has all been proved wrong in the past.

And covid isn’t a big thing. Not in my hospital anyway. About 30 cases in 950 beds (and a lot of them happen to have covid as well as a broken leg etc - they’re not in because of Covid).

This is an overreaction to a population which has had the shit scared out of it. Very hard to unscare people which is why there are so many mask zealots etc.

Bracing for incoming but I really don’t care.

That may be due to the fact that there's a delay of around 2 weeks between infection and hospitalisation.

I hope that this version is less virulent but only time will tell.

The new variant causes mild disease. It spreads but we have good vaccination coverage. Why not shield the vulnerable and let others get on with their lives?

The issues the NHS has today are the result of lockdown. Massive backlogs and conditions presenting which either should have been managed earlier but weren’t (due to lockdown) or people being unable to access timely primary care (due to lockdown / various primary care policies). Covid is not the reason ambulances are queuing out the doors and people have to wait ages in EDs.

Pile of wank - yes, people with post-nominals occasionally use language like that. We don’t all speak in Latin any more…

There is something the health secretary said in parliament that the PM didn’t say in his press conference

“Although the omicron official number is 500, because they know there is community spread, the actual figure out there may be 20 times larger…… and there could be as many as a MILLION new cases in the next 7-10 days!”

"

If that is the case, should we extend the passport scheme to include other factors (such as obesity) likely to increase one's chances of needing NHS care in the event of contracting covid?

Lets not leave every other chances of needing hospital treatment in your argument , drinkers/ sports injuries/ smokers/ car accidents ( it is always someones fault ) tripping up on my high heels etc etc"

You left out motorcyclists and contact sports, those risk taking daredevils are such a burden on our doctors and nurses.

__

The serious point to the argument is that part of life is risk.

It's established that being vaccinated offers a level of protection against severity of covid but does not stop transmission.

I would not feel good living in a society which excludes people for making free and conscious decisions regarding their own body.

"No argument here just do what they have got to do.

We have lived with masks and passports for ages and it is really no biggie (for us)!!

Best of luck UK

T

France, which has had strict mask mandates and vaccine passports in place for months, just hit its highest COVID case rate since April.

Their solution? Make more school kids wear masks and enforce vaccine passports in outdoor areas. Genius.

Precisely.

None of this shit works. It's futile to fight nature in these arbitrary ways.

Stick to the one thing that actually is proven to work - vaccines. The rest is nonsense."

How are vax proven to work, when all of a sudden the 3rd jab came in, 6 months after 2nd, now all of a sudden its 3 months, and still saying dont know if itll stop this so called no crimbo variant. All jabs have done is make people show less symptoms, so they go round with virus, but dont know, and spread it. No jab, theyd have symptoms and stay clear

I bet there ain’t a million cases in the next 3 months lol …

Of omicron?

I’ll take that bet….. 50 quid…. Charity of choice!

You in?

This, at the current rate of infection, there will be 4.5 million infections in 3 months if omicron becomes the dominant strain then 1 million is concievable

And if we’d carried on winning medals at the same rate we did at the Olympics the whole country would have one by now. Every single prediction made by Sage has not only been wrong, it has been miles out…

Sages predictions were only if we did nothing.

We haven’t done nothing for 20 months now so you’re effectively saying Sage should be made redundant. This is real life, not Bullseye"

Correct, thank you for proving my point! Therefore if Sage modelling is based on no intervention and there have been multiple interventions then their figures are not fit for purpose. Yet these are the headline figures we’re supposed to be running scared of…
