"...is speaking on tv now..he says the lockdown will end on 2nd December and we will go back to the tier system..." He is trying to keep his back benchers happy, telling them what they and their constituents want to hear... he knows by 2nd December numbers will be much worse than they are now and an extension is inevitable. Having not tied lockdown with half term they missed the boat. Call Santa and let him know Christmas is cancelled.

"...is speaking on tv now..he says the lockdown will end on 2nd December and we will go back to the tier system..." 13 days ago, he said we would not go into lockdown again. He has to try to balance lockdown- loathers and lockdown-lovers. It's an unenviable job and whatever he does, some will say it's totally wrong.

From personal experience, when you have a group of equally qualified specialists telling you the same message but with different solutions it is not fun. Add in the fact that most specialists are just experts in THEIR area, not the responsibilities beyond, I do not envy any Govt. We have moved from early days mass faith in govt and fear of the disease (even for radicals) to rampant Covid Opportunism: how can I manipulate the situation to my longer term advantage, with statistics utilised for politics and money. They are *all* at it.

" Numbers that are from the pre-lockdown period will take some time to surface, with the incubation and pre-symptomatic stage. Hospital admissions and any subsequent deaths should lag too. After 4 weeks we'd probably have felt hospitalization increaseas and first deaths but they'd likely continue. But infection numbers should start to fall through the 4 weeks. Those numbers will be seen and issued daily. There's no good reason why those numbers wouldn't fall alot, if people are largely just infecting people they live with, once confined to home. If infection rates fall, that could be seen as being successful and reducing future hospital admissions sufficiently.

I dont think anyone knows what the hell is going on. God help us ! SAGE told him to have a lockdown in late September. I know this is a very difficult situation but he needs to start admitting his mistakes and stop making false promises He will never admit he was wrong. Then he will continue to make the same mistakes, I think he is an awful PM and leader but I would have respect for him and this government if they would admit and learn from their mistakes nobody involved in politics would do that So that’s ok then? This isn’t about ‘politics’ he is the PM in the middle of a global crisis , his mistakes are costing thousands of lives, if he isn’t following SAGE advice then who is he listening to? love how everybody is just looking to blame everybody else instead of working together to find a solution" What are you doing to find solution? Maybe you can get a job on SAGE committee as your obviously better qualified than the current members

Boris is truly repaying the confidence the electorate has shown in his MP's 10 fold and we should all raise a glass to Boris tonight and give thanks.

"anybody can say we should have locked down weeks ago, but if I said you will be out of a job the day after would you be so keen. It will always be a juggling act between economy and lives, at the end of the day the nation will be virtually bankrupt, mass housing repossessions, education not worth the paper it's written on and anyone under 40 will have no money as taxes will rise." He is trying to keep his back benchers happy, telling them what they and their constituents want to hear... he knows by 2nd December numbers will be much worse than they are now and an extension is inevitable. Having not tied lockdown with half term they missed the boat. Call Santa and let him know Christmas is cancelled. " I really have to agree with all this - apart from the bit about Santa who we all know is immune to everything and will carry on delivering presents and good cheer regardless.

He is trying to keep his back benchers happy, telling them what they and their constituents want to hear... he knows by 2nd December numbers will be much worse than they are now and an extension is inevitable. Having not tied lockdown with half term they missed the boat. Call Santa and let him know Christmas is cancelled. Numbers that are from the pre-lockdown period will take some time to surface, with the incubation and pre-symptomatic stage. " Numbers will certainly increase for the first 2 weeks as these cases will already be baked in by Wednesday night. At best cases will start to level off over the following 2 weeks limited to in household transmission... even if the number of new transmissions that occurs on 3rd December is greatly below the number today, the number of positive tests and deaths on 3rd December will be much much higher than the figures today. We did not see a big drop by week 4 in the first lockdown and that did not have education open, it did not have growing Covid fatigue weakening compliance and it was during the period when respiratory illnesses start to decline not start to peak! 4 weeks simply will not cut the mustard. Relaxation immediately prior to the Christmas retail peak and with still relative high number of cases would create a massive spike later in January. As I said, SAGE was right Borris has left it too late and the result is a cancelled Christmas

"anybody can say we should have locked down weeks ago, but if I said you will be out of a job the day after would you be so keen. It will always be a juggling act between economy and lives, at the end of the day the nation will be virtually bankrupt, mass housing repossessions, education not worth the paper it's written on and anyone under 40 will have no money as taxes will rise." Thing is though that Boris has hid behind the banner of "Following the Science" until 40 days ago

". So contradicting what gove said yday? I think there will be too much pressure on him for it too last much longer." It isn't the first time what the PM said flatly contradicts or is flatly contradicted by one of his Ministers, very soon after. But there is no pressure on him. He has an 80 seat majority. All the little Captain Mainwearings gave him an 80 seat majority to do exactly as he pleased, knowing perfectly well he is a liar with a track record of failure as London mayor, a man who has six children by six partners, who calls gay men 'tank-topped busboys' and who calls black people 'picanninies with watermelon smiles.' Johnson doesn't do pressure. He does whatever suits him that day, because people wanted to hear his rubbish.

This means we were not in any fit state to manage this. Not enough resources for hospitals or schools - buildings run down not enough space. Staff on their knees already. Zero hour contracts and a minimum hourly rate no one can live on on top of the appalling way ESA/Pip and UC have been managed means more people already struggling. "Well I think he’s doing as best he can in a lose/lose situation, surrounded by conflicting ‘scientific views’ and as someone said just up the page there, there is no-one else amongst any party at the moment who could lead the country out of this mess and inspire any real confidence ... I’m not saying Boris is great, but who else is there ? We could always give Diane Abbott a go or Sir Kieth ... we are a bit like the poor Americans..with very limited voting options ... maybe we should just try and get behind whatever leadership we have and go with their recommendations and just attempt to be decent beings .. as opposed to bitching about everything and looking for people to blame...which seems to be all the rage at the mo ... let’s face it, he locks down and everyone moans he’s wrecking the economy and suicide is going through the roof... he doesn’t lock down and he’s murdering the elderly and infirm... its a no win innit .. Cold day in hell before I ‘get behind’ Boris unless it’s to push him off a cliff - he is resolvable for thousands of deaths both covid and prior to. He burns £20 notes in front of homeless abs calls gay men ‘tank top wearing bum boys’ that’s who people voted for... " As is often the case in our elections, it is not so much voting for a political party as voting against one... I didn’t vote for Borris I voted against Corbyn

"As is often the case in our elections, it is not so much voting for a political party as voting against one... I didn’t vote for Borris I voted against Corbyn" This is entirely the problem with a two party system. Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right. Here I am stuck in the middle without a viable political party. Labour going hard left to counter a hard right was just crazy IMO. Especially when the Tories will just say anything to get elected and then just do whatever benefits them most once in power.

"Boris is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. Whichever way he goes there are people who slate him. Many people are slagging him off left right and centre yet have no better idea of how to fix the situation. " Because its not their responsibility

"I reckon if Boris went on TV a month or two ago and said, “get your shit together and obey the rules or I lock down the country”. We’d be in a much better position. " Quite possibly
