I would have preferred to have had most of the German responses to this virus than our world-beating incompetence.

They were perhaps a bit too hasty in their regionally driven push to relax restrictions. Let's hope that this is learned from and that all countries manage to reduce their levels and infection growth.

It would be enlightening to hear from those critical of the German response but not ours, where we have done things better to actually reduce infection levels and deaths in detailed comparison.

I agree with the wary coming out of lockdown. Is it too early? I don’t think so .

The German r number spike is down to localised increases - not nationally.

There will be similar spikes in the U.K.

we should monitor how Germany deal with this spike above R1.

This is providing that our gvt is prepared to learn anything from other countries but as they are in love with their own belly buttons and think what we are so superior to everybody else, I can’t see this happening.

The R number was always going to go up after lockdown I guess. As long as you have a track and trace system in place, this is easier to manage and contain. The Germans do, we don’t.

If this was a sporting event, it would fair to say that we're only in the opening seconds, there's still along way to go before anyone can accurately assess which country has/had the best approach.

No country has ever dealt with this type of situation before, there isn't a best model for handling it. Maybe in 3 to 5 years time the world will know what works best. But for now, no one really knows.

R number means nothing thousands test positive every day, numbers dying still falling. If vulnerable are not in the R rate, death rate should keep falling.

When the overall number of cases is small (as it is in Germany) a relatively insignificant rise in the number of cased can produce a large change in the calculated value of R over a short period (it's a statistical anomaly). Only if the R value remains high for an extended period (2 -3 weeks) would there be cause for serious concern.

It’s a bit more than just a meat factory.

The Rki are monitoring localised outbreaks in 4 Districts/regions - which has steadily increased over a seven day rolling period - this is why they consider the R number to be as high.

It’s not enough to shut down the whole country, as it is localised - but if it doesn’t stabilise then I imagine there would need to be some restrictions.

That’s Germany .

For the U.K. - our R number is monitored and I would expect similar considerations and advice to be offered by SAGE if our number starts to move upwards when our restrictions are lifted .

There isn’t a problem having an opinion and sharing your opinion on this forum, that’s what the forum are for.

The problem is: when people try to pass their opinions as “Fact”; in cases where they are not experts in the field they are talking about, nor can they quote any relevant, authentic or credible source for the information they are presenting.

It's not though. For the whole of June, Germany has been averaging around 400 cases per day. The meat factory is over 1,000 cases, so more than 2 days worth solely attributed to 1 meat factory. Lifting restrictions is about people going shopping, going to gyms, doing sports etc. What on earth does that have to do with what happens in meat factories or care homes?

I haven’t said the meat factory isn’t a contributing factor.

The rki daily situation update report mentions three other outbreaks (4 in total) that are contributing factors to a higher reading. (The previous day it was 3 )

I think the point is that when the R number goes above 1 then action is required. At the moment the Germans appear to be dealing with this on a local level to where these outbreaks are.

If the number of localised incidences increases then it is at that point the R number has to be brought down by more wide spread restrictions.

It's about having an opinion and the fact that people have different ones is the point of the forum.

No, Germany is probably just saying they've had a big outbreak to get attention. They're so tired there of hearing the UK has the biggest outbreak, the most untraced cases, the highest fatality rate, the latest lockdown, the most farcical quarantine measures and they wanted some of the limelight too.

What a rubbish discussion- Gütersloher meat factory has over 1100 cases rest of country is very low, Hamburg ie is 0.02.... we have over 60000 additional deaths here, it’s time to respect them and not make silly remarks - by the way R number in New Zealand now is 2.5 counting in at 2 new cases- shows how much to read into that number .

The Gutersloher outbreak is linked to an outbreak in Warendorf - hence the concern to localise and isolate it in both locations.

Outbreaks in Magdeburg and Berlin are also being highlighted

Would you count a box of 100 gloves as being 50 pairs or 100 gloves as per the number on the side of the box ?

I don’t think the Germans are being dishonest about their covid numbers, despite the facts of the VAG emissions scandal highlighting a certain part of their automotive industry being very economical with the truth . This of course doesn’t mean everyone in Germany is dishonest.

Anyway .... gloves, 100 per box - count them as per box number, or 50 pairs?

They should be counted in pairs of gloves, i.e., one item of PPE you need both gloves for hand protection to be effective. Listed as separate items to inflate the figures and mislead the public.

Are gloves/ mittens connected together by a cord counted as two items? Do we now start counting each covering to each finger and thumb as a separate item of PPE for each digit.

Would any one count a pair of safety boots, ear plugs, or protective spectacles as two separate items?

Do you count the removable filter in a face mask and actual mask itself as two items?

Government obfuscation.

Doesnt matter what how you think they should be counted gloves used as ppe are sold by the box and all the boxes I have ever bought for many years are sold 100 per box, if you order gloves you order a set number not pairs, the nhs would order so many gloves and would report that number to the gov.

No country has ever dealt with this type of situation before, there isn't a best model for handling it. Maybe in 3 to 5 years time the world will know what works best. But for now, no one really knows.

I think most people would agree that Boris and his bunch of egotistical cronies have made an absolute balls up of this"

I think he’s done ok.. as said above, this is a new thing to everyone...

It's a new thing for every country. Britain has the highest death rate per capita in the whole world. How is this a record to be "proud of" as the silly Estonian twat has mentioned

Scottish government has not been great either but at least she gives out a clearer message than bumbling Boris, and an excuse can be made that under the jurisdiction of bummer Boris he gave the call for lockdown far to late for the UK and responsible fot thousands of deaths which could easily have been prevented

I agree with the wary coming out of lockdown. Is it too early? I don’t think so .

The German r number spike is down to localised increases - not nationally.

There will be similar spikes in the U.K.

we should monitor how Germany deal with this spike above R1."

More than happy for Sturgeon to make decisions, much more trustworthy and straightforward than worzel gummidge is

At the last election the T May one during a leaders debate she came out on top for who the public (a UK poll where the bulk taking part would no doubt be English) thought would make the best leader.

I am happy for the Welsh government to make its own decisions, I don't agree with a lot of things but I can see that keeping the travel ban stops the majority from flooding in from across the border to our beautiful country.

Always to be expected. And i dont even vote SNP. Haha.

I did tell you where to find it. Not fake but cheers for showing us you’re a snp voter. Haha good laugh

Scotland shame It's very easy to find and Belgium has the highest followed by the UK England has a much higher death toll per head than Scotland but don't bother looking as you will find something you don't want to see. and if you do want to look"

Scotland has the highest in the world per head. As I’ve had look up ONS. It’s there for all to see. The media have reported it over and over and over again. I take it all snp voters have missed it?!?!

It’s reported and the facts are on line for all to read. I’m having a hard time understanding what part you don’t get?

Or is it just the same old snp trick, tell everyone it’s a lie and others will follow?

Oh boy. Few things to clear up. The eu are the controlling body. That’s why the EU told all country’s to open their borders.

If you don’t know what the ONS is you may as well give up now. That’s the place were we all gets the information off. That’s why it’s called office of national statistics.

I’ll try again the EU is the controlling body. They tell all the countries in the EU what to do. So as I’ve said before the EU have NOT banned the Uk from traveling. I’m not sure what is hard to understand!

If you can’t find the information I’ve said you, you simply can’t read. It’s there in black and white for all to read.

On that note, I’m off to get some sleep. Good night all. Nothing personal I’m fed up reading the same shit off the same people on here that hate everything the British government do. Maybe they are not perfect. But not one country in the world has done everything correctly.

So the biggest thing the UK government have done is furlough. But I can’t say that because you don’t want to talk about something good they have done?!?!

Okay the best thing outside of that is putting money into finding drugs to help with this virus. That’s the reason why every country want wants the UK and Oxford Uni to supply them with the vaccine they are trying to come up with.

That’s due to the Uk government giving Oxford the cash they needed and when they needed it!!

Germany don’t post or calculate deaths /tests/results in the same way we do. There total is way past 10,000 ..the relative “spike” is localised as others have said ..we will have our spike as will other countries ...but let’s not proclaim the “German” way was /is the way to go ... we’ve got to deal with our way as that’s what we are in ... look on positive side ffs.

To return to the main topic: Does anyone know the averages A & E admission waiting time for the best NHS hospital before the epidemic, and the same for the worst German hospital?

Failing that, how did the waiting times for say, a mastectomy compare? The best NHS hospital compared with the worst German hospital, pre-pandemic, again.

Please quote references.

This has been covered extensively.

The national figure is skewed heavily by local outbreaks.

The point is that Germany has a very comprehensive test, track and trace system in place.

The R number is meaningful if you are actually gathering a significant amount of data.

We know Trump's position on this. Don't test means there's no problem.

In Germany they come to your home if you report symptoms and they test you. Whilst waiting for results your contacts are asked to self isolate. If the test is negative all fine. If not they test contacts etc.

We are saying that we are test, tracking and tracing.

Perhaps some people think that we are doing so effectively, but I have no faith whatsoever that we are.

Consequently our R number is far more of an approximation.

They have been found out time and time again, from Kay Betley interviewing a squirming Michael Gove on the Cummings fiasco, from Gavin Williamsons farsical handling off schools (private pike they dubbed him at the MOD), Home Secretary joke figure Dominic Rab thinking that 'taking the knee' was something from the Games of Thrones, Bumbling Boris spouting shite that he is proud of his record, and the list is endless of minister fuckwits mistakes and gaffs. Rare I know, but I actually agree with you on that one.

From someone who is actually in Germany.

The R number here has been heavily skewed by less than a handful of very localised outbreaks.

One in particular was in a meat processing factory near Hanover where over 1300 out of over 6000 employees have tested positive. Latest count on this mornings radio but still ongoing.

Most of this has been put down to the workforce being mostly eastern European. Many went back to their home countries to visit family over a holiday weekend which coincided with the relaxation of border controls a couple of weeks ago.

The big spike of infections came bang in the middle of the incubation period from that weekend.

Away from these localised pockets Germany's infection rate is still very low. Our town for example has one active case from a population of over 70,000. Our district has just under 50 from around half a million.

Part of the point I hoped to bring out in discussion is that the R number is bollocks. It's now 2.88 in Germany....due to a couple of isolated outbreaks.

ONS have been doing large scale testing of random population in order to estimate the total infections in the population.

In last 2 weeks dropped from 0.24% of population to 0.06. Down by a factor of 4 (suggesting an R rate of 0.5) but we are told at briefings it remains between 0.7 and 0.9.....go figure.

And there was 'Nicky Queen of Scots' telling Scotland and the World that they were doing the right thing and going slowly unlike England . . . yadda yadda yadda . . . you should get your facts right. The unwelcome record of most deaths per capita is England's, oh sorry the UKs"

ONS don’t back that lie up.....

"Their 'R" rate is now 1.8....

Sadly you will have to suffer the wrath of generalised media reporting - just like many here decide that if it goes up in one single place it must be because of all of those who went to the beach 6 weeks ago!

Down by a factor of 4 (suggesting an R rate of 0.5) but we are told at briefings it remains between 0.7 and 0.9.....go figure."

The "R number is bollocks"?

Really? It's not the way that the uninformed use the R number?

The Office for National Statistics does not carry out testing.

The testing that is carried out is also not large scale.

It is very unreliable in the UK hence the wide range of uncertainty which you have ignored.

"Scotland having the highest death rate of any country in the world per head. Snp and sturgeon Scotland’s shame. "

This is a direct quote from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) website for March and April.

For clarity the "mortality rate" is all deaths regardless of cause.

The data implies that there are more deaths in Scotland not related to Covid-19. This should draw its own criticism but Scotland does not have the highest Covid-19 death rate in the British Isles let alone Europe.

"Figure 3 shows that there was a significant difference between each country within the UK when looking at both all deaths and those involving COVID-19. Scotland continues to have the highest overall mortality rate but only the second-highest rate of deaths involving COVID-19. England had the highest rate (363.8 per 100,000 population) and Northern Ireland had the lowest (185.9 per 100,000 population).

England had the highest percentage of deaths involving COVID-19 over the period with 26.8% (33,235 deaths) of all deaths in England involving COVID-19. This was followed by Wales with 22.3% of deaths, Scotland with 21.0% of deaths and Northern Ireland with 16.5% of deaths."

Hahah

Funny same old faces. Posting bs and hating everything the Uk stands for. So did you miss out the 4000+ deaths from ONS in Scotland? Ah you miss out everything you don’t like.

I’m not even sure why you both even bother coming on here. All your posts are the same.

I’ll keep out of this now. Just an other thread that the bigots can’t tell the truth or even have a debate on.

I am struggling to understand what point you are making.

I have posted the direct quote from the ONS as I cannot give the link due to the forum rules. A Google search of this will take you there.

Do you dispute the information posted or do you accept it?

There is no "ONS in Scotland".

If you have some other information then copy and paste it here just as I have done otherwise it's just hearsay.

He is obviously just looking at what he wants to see. It's indisputable that Boris and his team of clowns have made a cunt of things.

Oh,, and have you thought of yet the one thing Boris and his clowns have done right (I exclude the furlough scheme which is admirable but is not related to saving covid related illness)

Name ONE THING they have got right

Politics on a swingers forum eh?

As if it isn't rammed down our throats on every other type of media in this country, we now have to endure it on here too.

Yes I apologise. I did say I would keep out of it but I’ve not.

I’ll go to the beach and enjoy myself.
