I would assume each story would be different, but they all have their reasons. Some probably don’t have to and just can, others may have reasons which mean something to them but might not to others. Huge range of reasons to do it, many don’t actually act on it and this site is just fantasy, self-esteem boasting and/or wank fodder.

I had a friend whose husband serially cheated. He found her profound distress to be proof that she loved him. She left him eventually, to his profound distress.

OP people cheat for many reasons. Some more understandable than others. But mainly people cheat because they don't have the balls to discuss things they aren't happy with. Most people cheat to spare feelings. For me personally I'd rather be single than in a monogamous relationship. My partner knows I'm on here and we often laugh about meets I've had or people I speak to. Sometimes people are just arseholes and if it has happened to you all I can do is say not everyone is like that.

Basically my husband tells me he loves me as a wife and a parent- but he doesn’t desire me. We’ve had sex twice this year. I’m at the stage where I feel like a sexual deviant for even suggesting it. It fucking hurts. We live like room mates who share a bed. In order for me to tolerate the lack of passion in our marriage I look elsewhere so I can be his wife for every other part of our marriage.

Because they would rather not deal with life, it’s an easier option to cheat isn’t it?

Human nature is a fairly valid argument, for some more so than others.

Because people want their life to be for them, not others.

There’s three reasons, I respect anyone who does what they want if it’s legal and doesn’t fuck others over. And if the truth hurts others, it’s not a great way to live I imagine, for anyone involved.

It’s difficult to accept because we are amazing in every other aspect of our lives.

I’ve had this happen to me in the past and it genuinely really knocked me for years confidence wise although nobody would have ever guessed I hid it well but looking back I should of spoke to people close to me, so you do right getting it off your chest, if he’s on a gay chat site maybe it’s a sexuality issue rather than anything else ? It's going to be so different for each person but cheating isn't also just one thing.

People may not be cheating when others assume that they are too.

It's probably only ever an important consideration for your own behavior - why are you doing it, why are you tempted, how could you negotiate alternative.

Humans are creatures of habit - we often stick around in relationships that we could evolve from.

People also seem to jump from heady teenage hormonal highs into long term relationships, without really having young adult experience of being themselves, independent of parents or a partner. They can then easily lack lots of experiences that they may be drawn to as they age or relationships decline or still faol to give them all of what they crave.

We're perhaps not naturally monogamous but religions etc have forced societys hands to make people conform to what is somewhat artificial.

Make your own decisions and respect others for their own

I think there are many possibilities, but I think the obvious answer is that they aren't getting enough (or the right type) of attention from their partners. There comes a point where enough is enough.
