Why do you care? You live at the other end of the country.

As politicians go he seems pretty sound to me.

some things they do makes the mind boggle

for example spending milions on bikes and docking stations .

so many use them including tourists

theyve spent more millions on cycle lanes

yet no cycle helmets

surely the most important thing when cycling is to have a helmet

"

surely the most important thing when cycling is to have a helmet"

Not necessarily Neurosurgeon Henry Marsh, who works at St George’s Hospital in Tooting, London, has said he has treated a number of patients involved in bike accidents whose helmets were “too flimsy” to provide any real protection.

There is also some evidence that car drivers drive closer to cyclists wearing helmets; in 2006 Dr Ian Walker, from the University of Bath, found that drivers were twice as like to get close to cyclists, an average of 8.5cm, when they were wearing a helmet.

So not necessarily clear cut.

the right frame of mind -London

Australia, Canada and a number of other countries have all brought in compulsory cycle helmet laws and yet have had no measurable difference or reduction in the number of cycle related head injuries or deaths?

Holland and Denmark have among the highest per capita cycle use when measured globally and also the lowest helmet use yet have a lower per capita cycle related deaths or head injuries?

Ever wonder what the real cause may be -perhaps it has something to do with fixing the cause through clever street design to minimise car speed and public awareness not fixing the symptoms with a helmet that will do nothing if the former is not addressed first!

Okay Rant over I promise!

In view of some of the bikes I have seen, I wouldn't necessarily agree.

I'm hoping his policies (or whatever you call them) cleans up the air in London. Some will hit poorer people, who should get a helping hand to change cars, but hopefully our air will be less harmful in the coming years.

On another thread you suggested londoners are embarrassed to admit living their because of knife crime amd terrorism. Which to me suggests you may not be getting the most balanced view of how londoners think, so I may regret asking this but why do you think he should he sacked?

Which stats? Do you mean knife crime? Because that's a nationwide endemic clearly linked to austerity and huge cuts in police numbers and not Londoncentric.

Actually it doesn't and my response was serious. The thing that encourage people on to bikes is infrastructure and access to bikes. Helmets are a potential obstruction to bike use and in no way a requirement whem cycling

Just out of interest, what is it he's done specifically that has led to an increase in crime? I assume it has nothing to do with austerity, gang culture and current laws passed by Parliament for example?

At least 1,310,413. That's how many votes he polled in the mayoral election.more votes than any previous mayor and 57% of the vote. (His rival Zac Goldsmith got 43%). That's democracy. Its not a case of sacking someone in tgat position.

In London he has frozen TFL bus passes and travel cards for 2 years in a row now which is a good thing.Sadly knife crime seems to have gone up which is a bad thing I feel we need a more visible police presence when it comes to knife crime , drug dealers and prostitution going on in broad daylight in my part of London. Not sure if he was replaced if it would be a good or bad thing.

It’s proven to be safer for the cyclist to not wear a helmet as motorists are less likely to take a risk and not give you a wide berth when over taking

Facts about London may get muddled on their long way up to Durham, but let me help you out.

(‘Even’) New York is nowhere near as murderous as it was in the 90s. But in 2017 there were roughly 3 times as many murders there than in London. The lowest in decades for New York. There were more than usual in Feb and March ‘18 in London which edged it past NY by a couple, Tory police cuts certainly not helping with that, but the stats are back in the usual direction now.

FYI Greater Manchester has a higher murder rate. But crime in London is more the Met’s responsibility than the Mayor’s.

Publicly saying what the world thinks about Donald Trump? He should be given a medal.

This one’s not fact, but the opinion of someone with great opinions. Me. I chatted to him in the post office once, and he was a top bloke.

Croeso!

Though I suspect I know the real reason this particular mayor of a city you don’t live in is getting your goat...
