Could admin set up a timewasters list when they get reports of say 3+ times people have been reported as such ? Be great for people to check against or have a red, amber or green markings on people s profile? This site will die otherwise

agree to both of the above.... the only reason I haven't left here for the other sites is purely because of the exhorbitant monthly subs they charge single blokes...

it used to be good on here but its becoming almost impossible now with the timewasters, and those who create a new profile on a daily basis...

So... what if someone decides to report you as a timewaster... then gets 5 of their friends to do the same. You'd be happy being "on the timewaster list"??

I've been on here over 8 years and gut instinct and common sense have led me to never encounter one. If you're finding timewasters a big problem you may want to look at your own selection criteria.

Although the OP's suggestion is quite reasonable, I agree with you.

It might backfired by having people sabotaging others' profile.

.

Even the definition of timewasters might be different from one to another.

.

Maybe it should be the other way around. You get a verification point for your meets and no point if a meet arranged but didn't turn up (much like ebay rating) - thus you're ideally looking at profile with 100% turn-up.

Looking at it from a positive point of view....

If people had to be photo verified it may stop some fake profiles or maybe even having to show a face picture on your profile but that could open a can of worms for people in sensitive jobs . And I'm sure there must be other ways to fakes out. As for people not showing up I can't see a way of punishing them without opening doors to it being abused .

In seven years I've not encountered a time waster: not one. Maybe my definition differs from yours: I don't class talking and conversation fizzling out as timewasting. I don't class turning up for a social and the reality and online persona don't match as time. Arranging a meet and I'm waiting on my Jack Jones and a no show...that's timewasting to me.

As an adult do I need a site to help me use due diligence and use my own common sense, you know, as practised daily away from the keyboard? No.

I agree ??.

I have had time wasters on here but asking to have a phone call pretty quickly sorts them out. It is amazing how often people are desperate for a meet but then just don’t seem to be able to find the time for a quick two minute chat.....

Sort the wheat from the chaff early is my motto.

The timewasters and fakes are just the same on the other sites.

Time wasting to us is, day, time and place agreed between all parties, photo's and phone no's exchanged.

We turn up at the venue, usually a social, the other party don't.

No explanations, no follow up calls to offer one, and when you phone them either no response or their phone is turned off.

One time we'd agreed, straight to hotel, no social, as the other party had excellent veri's and pics.

Hotel booked, we turned up at the local station to hive the chap a lift, no show. No contact for weeks, then a sad wee pm to say he was nervous about the meeting and was too scared to phone and call it off

All his veri's eh. We wonder where they came from??

Those are timewasters to be sure.

The issue is, how can you have a site that promotes genuine posters and reprimands/deters fakes and time wasters?

So when you pick an idea, like this one on this thread and run through many scenarios, it falls apart, but the idea is there.

The only conclusion we came to was you could see the stats of someone; for example, number of messages they've sent, number of messages they've blocked, how many reports they've had and why etc.. then you can draw your own conclusions.

Then each poster can hide or show their stats.

But even then, did they beef up their stats from fake accounts and/or friends?

As for moving to other sites, they're all the same.

But do what Branson said, Just pick something that is already being done and just do it better.

So if your idea is a swinging site, get a good site programmer and go set up one up with a full stat green light etc.. system. Then you will get the business if you can get it to work. Just need to work out all the algorithms.

So for two reasons this idea (which sounds great, initially) would not work.

1. Just as many “time wasters” on pay sites

2. A’s soon as anyone is “flagged” they simply make a new profile.

Fab has the tools....and members (should) have the brains and wit to them out!

That's right

People make thousands of fake profiles so fake claims will be very easy.

The site won't do anything to dissuade people as it means less ££££

Given how quickly the knives are pulled out if someone says something that the masses don't agree with, this would be the greatest gift to the axe grinders.

How about having a subscription fee of say £100 a month for single guys, £50 a month for couples, £25 a month for tv's and free for genuine single ladies (i.e. not half of a couple)

With that level of financial commitment, you can guarantee the men will be genuine.

Perhaps they should implement an system where two parties agree to meet. If either party fails to confirm then the meet doesn’t happen, if a a party fails to show then a reason must be given, admin could then decide if a punishment is worthy. Also if the same IP address gets flagged up then ban that IP address.

Over the years we've used free and paid sites, sadly all sites have the same issues, payment doesn't mean folks are genuine.

O o O oo

Admin have said they will never have name and shame on the site. You can however report anyone who you think is a timewaster (IE someone who didn't turn up to a meet when arranged) and Admin will investigate.

Yes I know, people will say Admin don't do anything, but they do, trust me. I will put onto the next post a summary of some of the things they do.

O o O oo

Here is an explanation from Admin from another thread on how they deal with reports.

******Just a quick note. If people report others and we can verify that they have broken site rules, we always take action (either a first and final warning, partially suspended account, fully suspended, mixture of the above).

Every single report sent via the REPORT link is reviewed. Clearly it's not in our interests to have people on here who are bad for the site. Equally we need to verify what has been reported and be fair to those who have been reported.

Admin

PS. we never provide feedback on what has happened. It's just not practical given that we get 100s of reports a day.

Here is what the page says after a report has been submitted:

--

Your feedback has been saved.

A website admin will shortly review your feedback and take the necessary action. After reviewing the evidence available to us, we may disable an account, remove a user, disable certain aspects of that user's account or issue a warning.

By leaving feedback you help improve the site for everyone who uses it. Thank you.******
