Is it rude to not reply to people and block them straight away if you're not interested? I think it is, but tempted to do so because I'm sick of the hissy fits and stupid remarks if you have to turn someone down.

No, it's not rude.

It's the best way to say 'no thanks' with no comebacks possible.

I would rather a polite message saying the female in question isn't interested, but I do understand why women don't send them and just delete messages. I don't find it offensive or rude

you can't win on here. If I reply to say not my type I get abuse, if I don't reply and ignore I get abuse, if I block they make a new profile just to hurl abuse then delete...so no fixed rules regarding the people who use this site I'm afraid.

It is not rude at all. It saves both parties' time.

I don't think it's rude. The people you're blocking probably will as we see from previous threads here complaining about being blocked, but a lot of people use blocking that way.

Just do whatever works for you OP

No its not. No reply=no interest. Blocking stops them messaging again in a week or so.

Standard practice on here for you girls otherwise you'd do nothing but reply to messages with a "no thanks" and then even more pointless replies to the "but why" messages. It does come across as blunt and rude but I understand you girls get hundreds of messages so it makes sense really. You do what you feel comfortable with x

If you're going to block, you might as well just say thanks for your message but not for me and wish them well, its what I used to do but no, its not rude, do what suits you.

No we don't think so,we've had guys message us for us to politely reply a no thanks only for the same guy to message us the same message a few weeks later,so I think by blocking them your saving both there's and our time

I tend to block if I get a no thank message you or no reply - I have a very bad memory so it prevents me from accidently remessaging someone a few months later. It also stops them appear on my searches. I don't consider it to be rude.

What I tend to do is to message them back to say I'm not interested, and then imediatly block them.

This is better than just blocking them, since it gives them an indication of why your blocking them, and it avoids any hissy fits.

I've found if you don't block they will just send same message again everytime you change your profile pic because they think you're someone new and don't bother looking at your profile. The block button is your friend

This also annoys some, as it's yet another message dropping in the box, that they're trying to clear.

No it's not rude as for each no thanks response you send you'll receive a question why or abuse. It's about fun and there no fun in reading and replying to all these messages. You just need to find a system that works for you not others.

No, it's not rude. You don't know them from Adam and you don't owe them anything. That's actually a nice way for you to help them so they don't keep messaging you again.

I usually reply with a nice 'sorry, but I'm not the one for you' and explain that I will block them because I don't want to keep wasting their time and my time by looking at their profile every time it comes up.

I do the same if someone tells me 'no thanks' - I block them after I've confirmed they don't want to continue chatting, etc.

Do it nicely and I think people welcome it.

Every unsolicited message has no inherent compulsion to reply and nobody should be offended when there is no reply when there are so many messages to answer, and as we already know, a large number of them bear no resemblance to how the profile is phrased.

In an ideal world we would reply politely to every message, but a see know fabs, is less than ideal.

I would much rather have a polite no than be blocked, but I can understand why people block when they get abuse. It can be frustrating when you see a status, respond to it, then never hear anything. Then you see the member moan about not getting any!

But then, the problem should be split into the real cause.

Replying with a "no thanks" is just good manners.

Sending abuse after receiving a polite turn down, is unacceptable and should be reported every single time.

If I were in the position of getting a lot of mail, ( be the other sex ), I would respond politely.

Any abuse whatsoever would be reported and blocked. We need to get the abusers off the site.

I always respond with a polite thanks but no thanks and never had any problems (guessing it could be different for me being a guy).

I have had a few people ignore me which while I'm not gutted it's still nice for someone to acknowledge the message but say no.
