What about those who aren’t so intelligent? Not sure spelling should be used as a measure for anything other than whether they can spell or not.

Norwich ish

As Stephen Fry once said we shouldn’t get hung up on grammar and spelling as long as people can be understood.

Also if someone mis pronounces a word or a name it means they have only ever read that word and not borrowed it from a conversation the have had with someone else. So does not make them a fool.

I know Siobhan is [Sha—vaun] but from years of reading it as [Sio-ban] I still struggle to disconnect that hard wired mispronunciation (even if it is in my head).

I don't think anyone is using spelling as a measure, rather saying that it isn't a measure of intelligence.

Unfortunately the Internet is spreading mispronunciation due to people only hearing the words said, incorrectly, by AI or whatever those awful voices are that talk over youtube videos.

And spelling and grammar help with understanding what someone is saying, it's kind of their point, isn't it?

There never been less of an excuse. If you can't spell you but your message through a spell checker .

It may not mean that you're less intelligent but it does mean you just can't be bothered to check it

Many on here don't have English as their first language. We would no doubt struggle with their language

Im not copying and pasting my messages into a spell check before I send them unless I'm sending it to somewhere/one very important.

If people on here want to judge me based on spelling they can have at it

I'm intelligent, fluent and can spell perfectly well... Sadly the same is not true for my typing and proof-reading abilities. 🙄

I like it- lure us in for a vocab chat and turn it into a pegging request.

It's the twist I didn't see.
