Cctv at clubs?

not far from Brighton

I've recently attended an event, and been told by the host that they've seen me play with a particular person on the cctv... there are no signs anywhere at the venue that ive seen stating there is cctv, and I've not consented to being recorded when I've asked to attend the event.

What is the general consensus on this please?

CCTV in clubs make us and we would hope others feel safer. They should obviously only be in the hallways and not in the playrooms. Staff can see who go in to rooms together but it should remain private, unless a problem occurs.

I would expect cctv in certain areas for safety, possibly not the play rooms though. I would expect the footage to be stored on an encrypted hard drive and automatically deleted after a period of time.

I think it is very unprofessional for anyone to mention what they have seen on cctv to anyone at all.

If you don't want to risk being filmed fucking don't go to a club or only play in a private room.

When we went to a club this year people were sitting about openly using their phones in the bar area. Nothing to stop them stealthily taking photos or recording though in play areas.

I’d prefer cctv in the clubs, obviously only in certain arenas but it’s why I like clubs over private meets. They’re so much safter, at clubs safety is a huge priority which is a good thing for me. Private meets tend to come with an element of risk, especially first meets

I should add.. I only play in private rooms at this particular venue.. I have no issue with the cctv for the purpose of safety, but this wasn't a safety or security purpose, and it isn't made clear that there is cctv, which I'd have expected it to be if the footage is openly available to view by staff/hosts.

By law CCTV can only be viewed with a valid reason and needs to be logged in a report. If they didn't do this they have broken the law

By law if you record on CCTV you must display a sign informing people that it is in operation this even includes a shop!

Would it not be covered by the same rules as not having cameras in toilets etc that is really not on op I'd seriously think about going to the police as it would be covered by the revenge porn laws and with it being without permission is even worse the club needs a big fine if not shut down

I'd say in communal areas the CCTV would reassure people that the club is taking your safety seriously, but to have them in play spaces is wrong. Can you clarify if the club has them in play rooms as the host may just mean they have seen you go into a room not the actual footage of you inside.

That’s the wrong outlook. It’s your right and it’s the law to not be filmed partaking in sexual acts without consent.

Those on phones should put them away. Clubs should have a rule about no cameras or devices

I actually find the idea of staff watching CCTV footage of people playing really violating. Mentioning it to you afterwards even more so.

I did wonder if it constitutes revenge porn. There's certainly seems to be issues that need investigating?

If they have CCTV, They should state that it is active. Usually it is for safety reasons, and also legal.

However to approach someone afterwards is ridiculous and highly unprofessional

This! In my pub we have signs up saying something about cctv and then even if the police want access to the cctv they would need to file a report first. Id assume it’s under GDPR where I couldn’t just go on searching for something on the cctv and mentioning what I’d seen…..that’s especially creepy at a club mentioning to you they knew who you were playing with

Doors, public areas and pools etc but not play rooms!

Definitely mention this to the club owner if someone has views footage of you playing and mentioned it to you.

Very unprofessional and invasive of your privacy.

It should definately be allowed in public areas but should not be in private areas! It shouldn’t even look at room doors. Who someone chooses to go in a room with is your choice! CCTV should only be viewed if an incident occurs.

I do know a venue, that records in a play area, they say it’s security but numerous people are aware that this is available on the dark web which is totally out of control!
