I really do like it dirty. Nothing better than flying around getting muddy, trying not to fall off.

Where abouts do we all ride?

I've ridden the 4x track and a section of the DH track but I'll be honest got put off by the old root section through the woods (they've relaid the trail to get rid of some of the roots now). Great place but EXHAUSTED after.

Not a fan of being on the roads with cars and their fumes, much prefer the countryside with fresher air. Even when I was riding my hybrid I would go to the local canal system and ride alon the towpaths for ma y miles. But I wanted more. So I recently bought myself a hardtail and love it. Looking to find some trails to ride, nothing too technical want to ease myself into it.

That’s actually why we like the natural trails, the fact that when you get off the beaten track you see so much more wildlife & less people (apart from the

lakes), although night riding has again brought a whole new world what you see owls, deer, foxes, badgers etc oh and the sky at night

I uses to be able to commute from my old job entirely off road, never bothered in the summer as the trails were full of walkers but in the winter ot was incredible. The time I startled deer in the woods abd they almost collided with me was a little scary but the amount of owls I'd see, that was incredible!

Button Moon (S.Central Hampshire)

If any of you lovely hedonists head out to Madeira to ride, let us know. I (Mr Spoon) spend about 6 months of the year out there riding the trails (which are utterly epic in a EWS hardcore kind of way). Always happy to hook up with visitors for rides. I keep a couple of enduro bikes and a pick up truck out there for uplift duties.

Mountain and gravel here, get yourselves to Devon for gravel and Exmoor for XC. Both end with cream teas. The jam kind.

You’ll get more dirty on a bike here than with your clothes off, lovely part of the world but rather parochial.

Perhaps we should all rendezvous at BPW?

I prefer MTB. Not scared of traffic but I hate going downhill on my road bike. I feel less in control going downhill on my road bike in a straight line than I do going down single track on my MTB. No idea why.

You give up too easy! I've broke collar bones three times, dislocated elbow, and broke wrists. Still it's never put me off, after one of the collar bone brakes I was back to racing cx two weeks later after having it plated.

Agree with the other comment on the road, even with the injuries I've had in the mtb it's still less scary than a fast road decent.

Living in the north east ( Newcastle area) we just load van up and head north over the borders. South Yorkshire or west lakes. Can’t beat some off roading though wooded or open moorlands. We have a lot of down hill.

Happy new year to you all and keep the hobby going.

Oh dear. I fear I must confess my sins. I started mountain biking in the 90's and well through my student days, only to turn my back on it when the kids arrived. It takes too much time these days so the skinny tyres get more action.

That said, there's something magical about smooth twisty single track through dappled sunlight on a warm summers day...

I must practise some self love and get dirty again!

MTBer here living on the edge of the Peak District. Northern riding spots include Farmer Johns (15mins away!), Phillips Park, Grizedale, and when in London I mainly ride Swinley Forest and Peaslake.

2 bikes NS Metropolis jump bike and a Santa Cruz Hightower LT(not a dentist) and I’m trying to buy a Scott Ransom Eride.

Does anyone else listen/watch The Ride Companion on YouTube?

Maybe we should try and arrange a Fab ride out, just biking no bonking! Ha ha

I cycle about Manchester, though haven't been to Farmer John's yet, think I might actually die haha. Lady Cannings up in Hathersage is probably enough for me at the moment. I think I've heard of the Ride Companion but I don't think I've ever listened to it

Maybe we should start FSCC (fabswingers cycle club)

FMJ’s is really good but can be daunting. It’s rideable without doing jumps etc I’m no Loic Bruni and I managed it ha ha I’ve heard of Lady Cannings but haven’t been. The Longdendale trail is a nice long very easy ride.

I’ve just been working for a couple of weeks in Marbella and took my bike with me and managed to find the Rockshox test track…. HOLY shit it’s rough!

Don't you need a full face helmet for Farmer John's? Maybe I'll go when I get more confidence haha.

Cannings is good, though it's only two blue runs, so not the most riveting if you're any good .

I ride road and off road with some badly done XC and CX racing too. Prefer a techy climb to going down.

Have a Ragley Big Al and a vitus FS XC bike.

Local stuff is the dodgy type built by kids on clay so go to the Quantocks and love Cwmcarn back in Wales.

Hate all the cringy slang with a passion "send it" "oi oi" etc.

It's mainly cross country but a few decent downhill bits at the Triscombe car park. Like a lot of things local to me it's about 30s downhill for 15 mins back uphill!

Prefer the up and down areas like Cwmcarn, marin trail and QECP etc.

I love my SRAM axs.

It’s very easy to set up and the shift is perfect every time.

You can adjust the shift pattern so one push and it’ll change one cog or hold and shift either 3 gears or as many as you want.

Less cables running through your bike.

Mine was a present and I love it but would I pay £550+ for it??? That’s a hard one!
