I read somewhere that guys in the top 20% of attractiveness get their pick of 80% of the women.

And the other 80% of guys in the lower ranks have to settle for females in the bottom 20% of desirability.

I'm not saying this is what I believe, but if it was true then I find this a very depressing statistic based on the fact there are an even number of men and women in the world.

What do you think?

On a fuck site where any holes a goal and the guys want to get their dicks wet? Yeah maybe the stats aren’t far wrong. Women definitely have the upper hand.

In the world of dating / finding a life partner? I think the balance is much more equal and, in the most part, natural selection means that on average people tend to end up on a par, barring exceptional circumstances (fame, wealth etc)

Statistics can give you many different answers depending on the question but in reality the way the world works rarely has a statistical answer

In terms of actual real relationships I highly doubt it.

If it is true I've had way more than my fair share of women and I'm butt ugly.

I think it's worthy of a scientific grant and years of research to work out who physically attractive people date.... Unless its the Peter crouch effect.

Often its the case that the more well groomed,fit body, perfect clothes someone is, the more dull & boring they are once the initial visual attraction has eased.

Obviously not a scientific fact, but pretty sure ALOT of people will agree.

Absolutely impossible. I'm well within the lower ranks myself (Mr) but my partner is nowhere near that. She's absolutely steaming hot

The stats are very true yes. More so in America though, where the number is actually much worse. These were actual studies. It is called hypergamy which means a woman will almost always date across and up never someone they deem to be below them which is 80% of men. Many studies been done with the same conclusion. Look at most profiles on here as well where women will clearly not be much to look at but still the profile will say they want 6 foot tall and good looking while if you look at a lot of men's veris, they fuck almost anything. Unfortunately that is nature and evolution making sure women het the best genetic specimen to make strong babies and the 'weaker' men are out of the equation. Same in animals

The better option for the application of this principle, is to acknowledge that 20% of your efforts can gain you 80% of your results.

Just focus on identifying what that 20% of your effort is, then stick to doing that. After, identify the next 80/20 split and repeat the process

At least you'll be optimising your effectiveness and results,

Not on fab. It’s a different world on here, 2s bekiff errr be they’re 6s and 5s think they’re 10s. Fab is very strange but I suppose it’s only attracts a small demographic. I’ve never seen above a 7 on here and they act like they’re gods fucking gift to mankind

Your 1st part is correct but the other way around, 100% of women are attracted to 20% of men, the rest don't get a look in, thats the rule, but with exception, this changes over time

You're absolutely right - OKCUpid the dating app back when it was new (over a decade ago now) gathered usage data to run statistics and wrote articles which they published on their blog...

Certain men seem to latch on to this statistic, my boyfriend is one of them, he keeps reiterating this and winds me up. He says I'm an outlier that I would consider anyone and everyone, but I don't think that's true. Some people will go for only the best looks or highest social status they can attain in a partner, but not everyone is motivated by these things. And I'm with @DanBerks, when it comes to LTRs in real life, people couple like with like.

It's called the Pareto Principle and this stat for dating apps came from a guy who polled 27 male Tinder users.

OkCupid did a study where they asked men and women to rate profiles from the other sex by attractiveness.

Men seemed to rate women on a bell curve and the average was 2.5, women were less likely to rate men 5 and most were rated 1 & 2.

They then compared that against who they sent messages to and found that "Women messaged more average-looking men and were less likely to message the most attractive men", where as the opposite was true for men, they sent the most messages to the women they had rated most attractive.

This data was backed up by a study from Oxford Uni which analysed 150,000 male profiles.

Assuming everyone is equal in all respects except physical attraction, then it's possible that might be true. Unfortunately people are a little more complex than a simple statistic, throw simply being a smoker or not into the mix, and the whole thing would fall apart

Can only speak from my own experience but I look at the profile as a whole when I was active on Tinder, not just how he looks in his photos. I've even swiped right on people cause of their Spotify feed they have shared.

I found the guys who would class themselves as a 10 have really boring, no info, no effort profiles. I want to see that there is more substance to someone than just how their face looks.
