Hands up if you’re an introvert!

I am and I always have to explain that introvert doesn’t always mean someone is shy!

Exactly this! Being around people is tiring, not shy just introverted. I can converse perfectly well but being around people tires me out quickly.

Sounds like you’re just shy at first lol introverts generally find it tiring being around others and need regular time by themselves.

Im an introvert! But everyone thinks Im an extrovert...

I am bubbly, chatty and interested in everyone, then at some point I just go "nope, Im done now" and everyone wonders why I suddenly went so quiet and grumpy or made excuses and left.

Or the other surprise for people is when I feel relaxed with everyone and I go really quiet... often they think somethings wrong but actually Im quiet because everything feels right for a change!

As you said - not all introverts are shy, or come across as introverted.

Exactly, people get the meaning of the word wrong so often. I can take other people in small doses but then I need time away from them to decompress!

I used to be a very extrovert person in both my job and social life. I used to hate being at home, in my own company. But since spending most of the 2 year pandemic in social isolation because of a long-term health condition, I've gone completely the other way. I actually quite like the new quieter, more reflective me, but it also means I wouldn't be comfortable going back to work in the same type of job that I used to do, so time for a career rethink.

I’m shy at first, but if the lady or couple have bubbly personalities I feel a lot more comfortable and I’m a lot more outgoing

Not all that North of North London

I'm an introvert, certainly in crowds. If its just one person and they make me comfortable I'll talk non stop, if they don't make me feel safe around them I'll embrace the awkward silence

I’m an introverted extrovert. By that I mean my natural persona is one of an introverted person and to be honest I’m quite comfortable in my own skin and in my own company.

However with the careers I’ve had and being a member of a golf club I’ve worked on my ability to communicate and socialise in public.

Funny enough my ex wife referred to me as an enigma, hence my profile name

Introvert and extrovert does not mean inside and outside. People often have this misconception. It's about energy levels; those who get their energy by being around others and those who get energy by being alone.

I'm an introverted extrovert. Alot of my passtimes involve behind indoors, but I get my energy most times being around my friends and family.

Introvert here - ISTJ according to the tests I’ve done. Absolutely hate parties, groups of strangers, loud bars, etc, and misunderstood because of that. Susan Cain’s book “Quiet” was a light bulb moment for me.

Agreed! Being around the right kind of people, makes all the difference. It can sometimes be a lonely place in a busy room!
