Dogging - secret signs

Once last year I was out at one of the known dogging areas near Manchester, and saw a car parked up with two pairs of shoes carefully placed on the ground at the back of the car. Obviously intended to be seen, I guess some kind of secret sign. Has anybody any idea what this could have been about? Has anybody got experience of other secret signs connected with dogging?

Yeah i know all the usual etiquette of lights, windows up and down etc. This was the particular weirdness of shoes next to the car, never seen anything like it before or since. Didn't get chance to ask then what it was all about. Just remembered now with the warm weather, and wondered if anyone here knew what it might mean...

What's the significance of windows up or down?

Lights on, audience is welcome. Windows up, watchers only. Windows down, allowed to reach in and touch (but ALWAYS ask first). Person in car reaching out of windows, you can give them something to touch (but ask first). Doors open, you may be allowed to join in (ASK!!!).

Shoes? Not a clue!!

The shoes mean they are into foot fetish ..... not... Probably just muddy and didn't want to ruin the carpets.

May be it was a sign for a prearranged meet.

Maybe they were genuinely taking a dog for a walk and were about to change into more suitable footwear?

I'm thinking muddy or dirty shoes - maybe even from a dogs mess and left outside for hygiene reasons

If there was a bit of pampas grass in one shoe and an ankle bracelet in the other, it means they were up for absolutely anything.

"Walk a mile in my shoes?"

Seems a bit of a daft sign as all it needs is the ejeet brigade to decide to make off with them (or worse).
