Recommend us a webcam?

Howdy, we've discovered that camming with people can be quite good fun although we're using a laptop for viewing the other people and the inbuilt camera for us.

But the inbuilt camera is pretty rubbish so we're looking at getting a stand alone cam.

We'd like one that works well in low light )or perhaps has a built in light), had a decentlt long cable and didn't throw a focus fit if you're moving it around to different positions.

Can anyone recommend something they use (that ideally didn't cost a bazillion quid)?

Thanks everyone.

Look on Amazon, set your budget and go with the one that has the highest rating would be my advice.

At last!!!

A question we can answer with confidence 😂

If a normal webcam is what your after, Logitech 920 is the best out there.

Although nowadays, most professional cammers and streamers are moving to using something like the DJI Osmo 3, which is a like a GoPro on a gimbal to keep it steady. Advantage to that is it stays steady while things get bumpy, and the ai face (or other body part 😈) tracking will keep what you want in focus. And bonus.... No wires.

Yes, not cheap, but those are the best ones for the job. But if you have a budget in mind, will help you find other highly recommended ideas ☺️

As much as I’m in appreciation that the above are trying to out-geek themselves. The easiest, best and cheapest option is your iPhone and camo studio. It’s a free software and literally looks as though you’ve plugged a studio film camera in. Can even change colour temperature and saturation etc (so you look better!)

Also has depth of field and will track you around the room x

That's very helpful, thank you. That matches a recommendation we've had from someone else (the Logitech).

The DJI looks good but I don't want to get invested in another hobby that I'll end up taking too far.

Otherwise our cam sessions will require a union mandated credit reel.

You can't go wrong with the Logitech for the price to be honest!

Know how your feeling about the hobbies going too far 🤣

If you have a spare old smartphone with a decent camera, or even use your main phone like I do, and get droidcam. Use either the standalone app or the plugin for OBS studio. then your camera is Wi-Fi but controlled from the PC you're chatting at. Might require a separate microphone, but the quality you get in the video is as good as your phone cam.
