Any advice?

My little laundry liability was over at the weekend. Luckily a lovely drying day today but I’m unsure how to clean the sheepskin rug. Absolutely sopping

Either put in washing machine or throw it out. Not much else you can do

Dip it, if it's genuine wool, sheep would be dipped in the sheepwash to clean the wool before shearing, they dried naturally in fresh air. Should think that would work with your rug

Cleaning stains / body fluids from absorbent surfaces or fabric should be a dedicated Fab Forum Subject

I’m doing it then, if Jason and the Argonauts could follow a Golden Fleece care label, I can do likewise - it’s definitely not going in a washing machine as suggested by another commenter 🤪

Is your washing machine also a cement mixer… because my machine won’t take the weight 😄

Enzymatic cleaner, so something like simple solution. Nice and gentle on delicate fabrics, give it a good soak. Like drench it, leave 10 mins, chuck it in the bath/shower and rinse it off, then hang to dry. If it fits in the washer then chuck it in there to rinse off and spin dry 🙂

Strap it to the roof of your car and go through the car wash.

Buy some wool wash and go to a launderette. They'll have big enough maxhines to cope with the weight of a wet rug

Then buy a waterproof blanket

Dedicated wool wash is the way to go.

Launderettes are perfect for oversized or unusual loads that you might have infrequently.

Honestly just lay it out in back yard and spray some car wash soap over it, uncoloured preferably something like auto glym polar blast then wash thoroughly with a pressure washer, hang to dry. If it's genuine wool then understandably wool is remarkably resistant to the elements and a thorough wash won't do harm just don't use any products with colours or scents

We made a mess of a very fluffy rug a while back. A local dry cleaners were concerned it wouldn't fit in their huge machine but it did and came back perfect

Try 11.9% hydrogen peroxide. You can get it on amazon. It gets rid of all the biological materials and removes the smell. It works for dog accidents, I can’t see why it wouldn’t work for this.

I have a similar “laundry liability” friend, but she always takes care of these ‘episodes’……

However, if doing this yourself, I would suggest a tepid water handwash, with a woollen garments detergent. I use the French sink in the garage, when I wash my Norwegian jumpers, then lay flat to dry, I wouldn’t hesitate to do the same with a sheepskin rug, if I’d forgotten to move it to safety in the first place……

Avoid all heat!

100% British sheepskin rugs can be machine or hand washed if necessary using the following instructions. Please note washing can remove natural oils from your sheepskin rug making your rug feel slightly less soft. Only wash if you absolutely have to, as our 3 general care steps above are usually enough on their own.

Pre-soak in COLD water to 30°C maximum, using a MILD WOOL detergent.

Gently hand wash OR wash on your machine’s WOOL CYCLE in cold water (again, 30°C maximum).

Rinse until the water is clear. Spin dry on the SLOWEST SPIN CYCLE to remove excess water.

Comb wool while still damp.

Slow drying will give the best results for your sheepskin rug. Hang to dry over two lines away from direct sunlight or artificial heat like radiators.

When nearly dry, stretch by hand in all directions and finally to the required shape
