Always went to this bar over the past few years. So we decided to go last week. For a few drinks. But as we arrived we were stopped by the bouncer right u close to our faces and told we could not get in due to footwear. The owner knows us and use to always hug us as we arrived looked at us and turned her back to us. Now I felt a bit intimidated by the bouncer wasn’t a nice experience. Also was nobody in there. It looks to me they only want young and fit couples there Our advice is to not support this bar.

WHATS YOUR THOUGHTS

Can I ask, what footwear it was?

And what's the code for clubs/bars, should I pack casual shoes too not just runners

Did Manon really turn her back? Was Sascha aware? I find it hard to believe that they would do this? Single guys are allowed in the bar as long as they know couples who are attending? I've never known aggressive behaviour towards couples at BBB? It's always a mix of all nationalities but does help if you apply a bit of European lingo to others at the bar? I do however get it about Comeback Bar? Dutch owned & love the Brits. They were howling at us dressed in lederhosen last year!

We do not represent the Black Bulldog but opinions have been sought. Here is ours...

The owners of the Black Bulldog ask for two things.

1) That you book a table in advance.

2) That you dress to impress.

Dress codes and table bookings are nothing new and remain at the discretion of the owner.

We have never heard of anyone who has dressed smartly and booked a table being turned away from the Black Bulldog. We have done 1 & 2 ourselves, been admitted, and have never been described as Ken and Barbie.

As for the doorman, we have obviously not been present for every encounter, but do know that some people become argumentative about the rules and don't blame the doormen for having a "here we go again" attitude when people try to come in wearing their sandals.

The beauty of PDI is that there is something for everyone. If you don't want to dress up, there are places you can go. If you do want to dress smartly there are places you can go where other patrons have gone to the same effort.

It depends on numbers too. Again, we are NOT affiliated with BBB, but support them as fellow business owners in PDI.

I, Miss Eden_GC, LIVE in flats but donned high heels to visit in December as per request by the dress code. Not a hardship really to enjoy a few nice drinks and atmosphere in a great bar

The beauty of PDI is there are SO MANY choices and if need be you can find somewhere else to go somewhere else.

In a club with a hot tub for example they may be a bit more lenient with the dess code as you MAY wish to dress down once inside and high heels and a stunning dress can be a waste.

Horses for courses and all that

Not all women can wear heels due to health issues.

We got turned away last month after deciding to give it a go.

We were both smartly dressed and no different than anyone else already in there .... except of course we are English!!

It looks like the bar has focused on the German clientele ? ... in all honesty it didn't look anything special anyway, had a very dated look to it compared to the newly expanded comeback bar.

We just laughed it and thought their loss !! And took our money elsewhere.

Looks like they'll be making a rod for their own back? Richard at Comeback Bar will be smiling away to himself reading all of these comments? More British & Irish money to share around the other bars?

Maybe not a good idea to omit entrance to the "Island Monkeys"??!

We have visited PDI many times and always called at the BBB. …. That said we visited the BBB last month early on in the evening ( the place was half empty) both of us very smartly dressed and had an awful experience with the staff. Won’t go into detail (take to long) so off to the Come Back Bar we headed ,,,, their loss ! We are back in PDI in April and won’t be turning right at the top of the stairs ,, straight on for us. We saw someone in this tread commented on the little sports bar in the corner on the same floor ,,, the place is great and visit it almost every night.,,,,, the host can’t do enough for you and there is a few “swingers” get in there.

"Where is route 69"
out the Cita Av. de Francia side (Eiffel Tower) and turn right towards Pepe Chiringos and El Poncho on the corner. Turn right up Av. de Tirajana, past Rey Carlos and then on the right, look down off the street and you will have Route 69.

We’ll pop into BB for a drink as C and our good friend A is working there. Both worked at Secret in the past and are lovely people. A is a top lad with that typical Cuban energy.

I know they’ve only recently started so it’ll be interesting to see if the dynamics change within the place.

But as many have pointed out, fortunately the saturation of swinging clubs and bars in the Cita is so vast, that a very short walk will take you to somewhere that will be up your street.

As club hoppers, we love them all, though my bank balance can’t stand them come the end of our holibobs!

We were going to start a new thread on this but found this one straight away! We were turned away last night by intimidating bouncer who told me smart tailored shorts were not allowed and against the dress code. We’ve also heard it’s been anti brit since covid and also its def ageist - cos everyone was much younger certainly than us (not that that bothers us!!)

Never had a problem here even in smart flip flops!! Maybe they've changed? We've seen a few single guys being turned away and sometimes we've not tried to get in as it's too busy for us so we just go to before or Come back. Last time we went was October 22. Shows were a little risky for a public corridor.

We popped in last year and the smoke was disgusting, there was also a live sex show taking place which, although very open minded, seemed wrong when vanilla were walking past

I’m keeping it going. Because it’s so wrong. We are tourists and bars obviously need us. But to nearly shove ya away from door for just trying to walk in I’m not letting it go so easy. And for those who support the bar. Must think they are very special.

Newbury / London

We went over Christmas and didn't overly enjoy it much. It was about half full, but the empty tables were all reserved.

We were not allowed to rest a drink on one to re-assess strategy and pretty much got told to sit in the back corner. We finished drinks and buggered off.

Seemed a bit cliquey to us.

The owners of the Black Bulldog Bar ask for two things.

1) That you book a table in advance.

2) That you dress to impress.

This is not a beach bar in a shopping center and no Gym sportsbar. It’s more like Melrose in Cap d Agde.??

Many people forget that when you have total 90 people it’s full and packed.

The bouncer is not the owner and he works for a company and have rules…

Do you have problems, you don’t like it, there are 150 bars in the south.

Mr Eden here...

I am from GC but work in the UK. When I am there I stay mainly in hotels, where if I dine in the evening, I am required to book a table and wear a collared shirt at least. There are a number of clubs which say no jeans, no trainers, so a dress code and reservations are nothing new.

I don't know if it's still in force but Richard used to have a no shorts policy at Fun4All so that argument falls flat.

Bars and clubs have capacities that are regulated by law for health and safety reasons. Failure to comply can lead to a fine up to 60 000€. Overcrowding is also uncomfortable and unhealthy and not fair to the patrons.

On this forum there is another thread about another establishment where some patrons have threatened to boycott because the doorman turned a blind eye to those breaking the rules. Now the complaint is the doorman is doing his job. I for one would not like to reserve a table somewhere, arrive and find my table had been given to someone who had just walked in. Likewise I would not like to go to the trouble of dressing up and finding myself in a beach party.

If someone has a medical reason for not wearing heels, then I'm sure that can be discussed with the owners when making a reservation.

If you go to an establishment and try to dictate their policy to them you may find them suggesting that you try somewhere that suits you better.

As stated twice we have no dog in this fight, but this is a forum where alternative views are exceptable. Suggesting we have a hidden agenda is ironic when it comes from someone suggesting one bar be boycotted then proposing the alternative when there are plenty of options in the cita.

This complaint is not too hard to sort ...... if you don't like it don't go again !!! we went last November and wasn't overly impressed with it so never went back, it's the owners choice whether we like it or not, if it fails we will all say i told you so, if they do well, good luck to them they must have found a gap in the market .......

To be honest the OPs crusade to try and ruin this business shows them in a pretty poor light.

The OP previously posted a comment ‘shut them down’ which we highlighted was poor form…. That comment got quickly deleted.

The OP had tried to use a business, had a poor experience and raised it in review form on here. That should be the end of the matter. The business , as long as it’s lawful, can operate how it wants… as patrons it’s your choice to use it or not.

But this crusade is verging on being childlike at best.

Zurich. NOT London.

We visit PDI 4 or 5 times a year. Never had an issue with BBB. Have walked past a few times and not even attempted to get in as it was packed. Other times we have stopped and had a drink and then moved on as again, it was just too busy.

Some people like it, some people don't. Never had a problem with going there, but never really got the hype, it's just a bar.

"Always went to this bar over the past few years.

WHATS YOUR THOUGHTS"

Answering this in hopefully a slightly different angle:

Our thoughts are we totally hear you. It’s not the first time we have heard this over the time the BB instilled doormen, or walkway men perhaps.

We have experienced the warmth and the greeting from them, but equally a not tonight; and that was including a time during the Cita challenge when a few of us were looking to smash all the venues in one night and looking for a quick drink in what was an empty bar at that time and we heard throughout most of that particular night.

We spoke to them after and they said to book the previous night, as it’s a small bar and only limited places.

Personally, I would never go out my way and book a table for a bar/pub/club the previous night unless it was a theme/event and planning to spend most of the night. We are hoppers, so when we do pass, if we get in we do, if we don’t, we don’t. We don’t let it piss us off. We’re on a small investment called a holiday so want to ensure our mood is high and positive. And if it’s going to change, it’ll be our doing, not someone else’s (unless they want to pay for our holiday).

In fairness, it’s not our favourite venue, but equally when we’ve popped by and asked if they’ve got room for us, they’ve always done their best to accommodate us.

Looking at this from the business end, and also from the BB point of view, personally it’s not how I’d run my bar. However, I respect this is how they run theirs and the fact this isn’t anything new about their business model, then it must be working for them. Equally, like a lot of bars in the Cita, they are German centric, and as German swinger centric, I doubt any crusade on fab is going to affect them, even if the whole of the fab community agree with you and boycott the venue. It will still operate and there I say it successfully (yet surprisingly to the small market of UK/Irish based fabsters). In relation to the doorman, they’ve had them there for most of its inception and if they were doing their business more harm than good, I’m sure they would be savvy to address this.

However, if you do dislike the BB yet want to enjoy a German swinging bar, then take a walk up to Sandia and Sweet Moments. It’s talked about very little on here, in contrast to other venues, but we’ve found M&R super friendly and welcoming, borderline crazy in the right way, and it’s a fun bar.

To end with the balanced view. Again, we hear you and of course you’re welcome to your view and it should be heard. We hear your experience and it has aligned with a number of other members on here. And also hear your advice not to visit.

I also think there’s been some valued comments as well to suggest that if your thread starts to go down a direction that it looks like you’re trying to destroy someone’s business (no matter how unfortunate your experience is), then it paints you in a bad light and tarnishes your name, which would be a shame, as it would mean a double BB blow you’d be receiving, if this makes sense?

Our advice would be (if you do like the place, with the exception of the doorman, and don’t want to book like ourselves), is head there with no expectations that you’ll get in and upon arrival, ask the question “Hi, do you have a table free for x?” or “Hallo, room for two little ones?” and go from there.

I know it sounds simple, but a slight change of approach, words and how you enter a venue, can make the difference.

I say this as it’s a conscious approach I take with any booking system venue, be it a restaurant, a barbershop or a swimming pool. Unless I prebook, I know my chances of not getting in will be lowered.

Hope this helps! xx

One of the key ways to resolve conflict is to try to see things from the other side. In this case...

The owners of BBB like to pay attention to their customers and do not have time for doorkeeping duties, so have taken on extra help. These people are not fashion consultants and even if they were, nicely dressed vs not nicely dressed is a totally subjective discussion. And so in order to make it objective, it is necessary to provide simple rules for staff to follow e.g. Heels OK, sandals, trainers not OK.

I, Mr Eden have only been to BBB once. We were a party of 6, all English except for one Lithuanian, all but one above 50, but booked a table and respected the dress code. We were given a warm friendly welcome. On this night there were two doormen. One Dutch one Spanish. Given that it is a Dutch owned bar in a Spanish speaking country this is fair. Therefore going back to seeing things from the other side, how would any of us like to have to argue with someone in a foreign language? It's frustrating, especially since it shouldn't be necessary, and what is seen as aggression may simply be frustration.

The feedback we are getting is that since this thread has started, BBB has never been busier. It would appear that there is a market for people wanting to dress up for a night out despite being on holiday and the fact that dress code and table reservations are adhered to unwaveringy seems to be a plus to most. BBB opened in the middle of a pandemic and have thrived where others have fallen by the wayside, so we doubt they will be changing a winning formula.

And yes as Justusboth2013 have said. This is the beautiful island, the happy island, the friendly island. We tend not to take life too seriously here and tend to steer away from drama where we can. Letting one small thing ruin your holiday in paradise is a shame, so maybe if something doesn't go your way, don't let it consume you, just move past it and have fun because that is what PDI is all about

We've always had a good time in here.

Last time they let us sit at a table but asked if we could move when the folks who reserved it came in, no problem.

About an hour later the people who made the reservation arrived , we offered to move but the new people were happy for us to join them.

Walked passed a few time later on at night and its banged out, so walked on by.

To be fair, we have a great time in most bars, had a fab time in the Tipsy Hammock last visit.

Back in September, hope to see old friends and new then.

PS. is kiosk 4/6 and sunbeds back to normal?

The sad thing about our visit was we went into to the club late January 2022 when it was fairly quiet and had a really nice couple of hours there. At that time there were still covid restrictions in place but they welcomed us (and our money). Then a year on we were ushered physically away without explanation that was well out of order

"We were going to start a new thread on this but found this one straight away! We were turned away last night by intimidating bouncer who told me smart tailored shorts were not allowed and against the dress code. We’ve also heard it’s been anti brit since covid and also its def ageist - cos everyone was much younger certainly than us (not that that bothers us!!) "

Update: we went back on long trousers 2 nights later and were welcomed in. We’ve been back 3 further times and when angie is working the room the atmos has been electric. There were always at least 3 Brit couples in there and we’ve since been made to feel very welcome. Yeah sure they have regulars who block book but so do many venues. In summary of PDI/cita centre actviity is in Feb only two places are busy Bulldog and Secrets, the rest have been empty.

The last couples comments are spot on.

We have been on the scene over 15 years on and off and years ago dressing up was part of the thrill.

Ladies sexy dress or skin tight trousers

Men shirt trousers and dress shoes.

Although jeans are now the fashion item a shirt and shoes are the least effort that can be required.

Bulldog bar is a bar equivalent to the bars in cap de arge where the clientele are all ages all looks but dressed to impress.

Well done to the owners

P.T. Barnum once said, “There's no such thing as bad publicity,” which is almost as good as Oscar Wilde's version, who put it like this: “There's only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about.”

I totally agree with you, myself and my partner were refused 3 times last week. The reasons given were, first time was wrong footwear, second time there were too many in and third time we were told it was a private party. Personally I think it was because we don't fall onto the " young beautiful people" category.

Either way we enjoyed comeback bar and had a great holiday.

Why would you go to a bar that refused you once never mind allow them refuse you three times

There's lots of bars

"The last couples comments are spot on.

Well done to the owners"

While I do agree to the sentiment, only to a point.

We have been swinging and attending clubs for over 20 years and when we first started out, it was definitely shirt, trousers and shoes. But so was going out vanilla on the town too. Time, and fashion, has moved on and smart jeans, polo t's and fashion(not sports) trainers are now the norm. To say that this is wrong is like saying men should wear collar and ties like they did in the 60's!

On holiday there should be even more allowance! I don't pack long trousers at all on holiday, so chino shorts only for me and smart trainers and if I'm not welcome, then I'll find somewhere that accepts us for who we are, not what we wear.

It wasn't smart shorts and trainers it was more like tracksuit bottoms and rough looking sweatshirts. Not suggesting we need a collar and tie but surely being reasonably well presented isn't too much to ask?

Each to their own though, like many have said before there's plenty of choice for all.

I agree with wearing a pair of Nikes/Adidas sports shorts, like you’ve just come off the beach, wouldn’t be great but I agree and do think a pair of chino/jeans shorts smart trainers etcetera is more than acceptable, especially when on holiday.

I’m a bit of a brand junkie and like my labels and clothes. So when I go on holiday, I realise that for every long pair of trousers/jeans, I can take two/three pairs of shorts. So have the option of wearing more and different items during our vacation.

As such, I like to think I dress to impress and make an effort.

Only been refused entry once when we did the crawl, and that was Miranda or Manon, stating that they had reservations and there were too many of us to accommodate.

I’ve never been turned down from the Black Bulldog wearing these items, so I assume that they’ve been acceptable.

Hopefully this trend continues, as we sincerely enjoy all of the places, granted we have our favourites. Either way, looking forward to March 31!

We visited after being recommended by some people we met at Venus. We couldn't get in the first night as they were rammed, but we came earlier (10pm) the next day and got a table.

Had a really good night, really positive vibe and everyone was having great fun. Gets really busy around 11, but then quietens down a bit. We had such good fun with the staff and regulars we ended up staying till they closed.

As people are asking about dress code we got told to dress to impress, so L wore a revealing dress and heels and I wore a dress shirt and chinos with shoes. (I always wear long trousers, shirt and shoes for a night out)

Most people don't stay dressed in there for long mind! In terms of the 'ages' mentioned there was a big mix of people and ages, the common denominator was they were looking great and having good fun.

I don't have any favourites or allegiances to certain bars and clubs as we are new to all this, so thought I'd give my 2 pence to give a sense of perspective.

Only complaint was it gets bloody hot in there when it's busy!

This is good to read.

We sometimes go out in casual clothes so after reading all the comments, it seems we'll need to try this place when we are dressed up.

In defence of Black Bulldog

We went to BBB last night and had a great time!

Everyone (and we mean everyone) was very friendly including the bar staff and bouncer (a good looking ‘boy’ who looks like he’s never actually been in a scuffle).

We drank and danced the night away mostly with ‘wild Germans’ until we went to ‘Secrets’ for more fun.

Comeback bar…… What can we say other than two hours of our lives we will never get back.

We won’t be going there again!

Staff wise, an explanation about the wrist band would have been appreciated before trying to force it upon us!

If your idea of a good night out is rocking up to a club in surf shorts and trainers or a gilet and backpack then you will be fine.

Comeback has become just another bar, everyone used to dress sexy and when it was smaller people mingled and moved on to a club, it has lost its sexyness

After trying other bars and being sorely disappointed we were tentative about dressing up for another night. The sexy and high class dress at The Black Bulldog added a feeling of luxury and exclusivity which was both tantalising and sensual. It made for a wonderful atmosphere of dressing to impress and being impressed - Thank you! We will be back …. Tonight!! ?? ??

We love Comeback. We certainly don't wear what we wear to go to the supermarket!( currently coat scarf wooly hat and boots) Hotwife always wears a quality mini dress and heels , I wear tailored shorts and a shirt ... don't wear that to get our weekly shop! Each to their own.

Mrs2forfun would definitely be either asked to leave or arrested if she wore what she wears in the Comeback bar in our local Morrisons…we definitely dress to impress whilst in GC

No idea, we wouldn't book a table as it's not our type of place but we do take a walk past and have occasionally went in if we saw a couple we know or like the look of.

The only time we've been refused admission it's been absolutely rammed and we wouldn't have stayed anyway.
