Hi been here a few times, with there being so many Restaurants, I’m looking for recommendations for the higher end types or ones that do great food, not really into cheap ones, I think the one we have been to a couple of times is called Centrum, very nice and love how you get so close to other tables it’s easy to start a conversation with the next table. Thanks in advance

You need to go to Melonares (about a 5 euro taxi from PDI) if you want higher end Restaurants.

We have also heard amazing things about this place. Food that wouldn't look out of place in a top New York restaurant, but at Canarian prices.

We'd recommend WAPA TAPA in the Yumbo, been there several times. Spanish tapas and very high quality, although you do pay a little more. The service is excellent and a little "quirky" - you'll see what we mean if you go.

Otherwise right opposite them is an "Italian" restuarant called La Candela. We had a superb meal in there.

The restuarants in Melonares are very good too as said above.

We highly recommend “Martel house” in the Yumbo. We’ve never had a bad meal there yet and it’s service is spot on also it’s very reasonable price wise!! Would wholeheartedly recommend the Chateaubriand for two washed down with a tasty red??????

Our recommendations for Melonares -

Cafe del Mar. Great food and entertainment. Yo uh c can have an excellent meal, entertainment all night and a couple of very good bottles of wine for about 200 Euros

Pitos y flautas. Great food and wine. Recommend the fidua, a Spanish dish you don’t get a lot of places

Blue Marlin Ibiza sky lounge. Amazing views and good food

Velero Casa Antonio. Seafood restaraunt. Can be hit and miss havd gad amazing seafood there.

Melonares is without compare if your top priority is showing off how much you spend on a meal. Just don't expect the service to be any good. You can't have everything.

Yes, you can get better food elsewhere by doing your research, but the bill would be smaller, so how would you know it's good food?

The only decent food we had in Melonares was Sa-Wa-Dee which was fantastic, the rest we tried were glitzy decor but disappointing quality and service. I'm sure there must be better but we haven't found it.

Most of the best and busiest restaurants have been on Av de Tirijana

Definitely Wapa Tapas…. The best on the island for Dinner…….If you want something lighter… the English Bakery Cafe on the same level on the far side…great British homemade food…..

I should have said disappointing quality wasn't really bad, just not what we would have expected given the look of the places and the prices

What a numpty statement ! A meal costs what it costs… whether it be Wetherspoons or Michelin star. It’s got nothing to do with ‘showing off’. The question was for recommendations of higher end dining…. So recommending what was asked for is hardly showing off.

Me thinks a bit of reverse snobbery in play here

Wapa as mentioned.

Dreams... Las Cumbres...Perla Negra... El Poncho for Mexican..

Lovin Food takes some beating though

" The question was for recommendations of higher end dining…. "

Actually it was for higher end dining or good food. If you want the former go to Melonares. If you want the latter go elsewhere.

I'm happy to pay good money for great food, but personally I wouldn't pay for "higher end dining" that didn't feature great food. But clearly other people feel differently and they're perfectly entitled to if that's what matters to them.

If you don't believe me, Google restaurants in the area, and you'll find that there's almost no top rated restaurants in Melonares, and loads elsewhere.

Not all high rated restaurants are good, but no poorly rated restaurants are good.

There is though you’ll probably want to knock up another thread for this, as this is focused on the Canary Islands, in particular Gran Canaria and the Yumbo Centre.

Back to the Yumbo...

Wapa Tapa - great vibe, delcious food but pricey, and you have to book.

Chinese Buffet - on the lower level is excellent value and very good food. A Yumbo institution!

Valentines - on the next level up has a lovely atmosphere, is very well established and has an excellent French menu.

And finally The Gran Cafe Italian on the lower level has a superb Italian menu and a great outdoor vibe - perfect for people watching over your Linguine Marinera. Look for the wickerwork armchairs.

Not been there, but the reviews do look good so we'll give it a try next time we're in PDI.

Maybe not a place to go if you're not very tall: "preparing elevated steak & seafood dishes".
