Covid checks at Gran Canaria Airport

Is there anyone currently in Gran Canaria, or has been this month that can tell us if they are checking Covid Vaccination/Antigen/PCR tests when you arrive at the airport, since they removed the need to fill in the online form recently?

Just landed a few hours ago and there’s no Covid Test checks. You will be heat scanned on the way through to baggage claim, so wouldn’t suggest travelling with a temperature!

Yes the area right after passport control before baggage claim is still a “health check area”. There were 4 staff at tables. There are heat-sensing cameras overhead that take everyone’s temperature, and assume that the staff are conducting a “visual health check”. But they do not routinely stop anyone.

Yes thats correct. Went through last week. 4 people at a desk but they werent stopping or asking for any documentation.

This question was asked recently and someone said they were asked for proof of vaccination.

Maybe they do spot checks but the rules are still there.

I wouldn't like to be the one sent home would you ?

All travellers

If you are travelling from the UK to Spain you must show valid proof of one of the following upon entry:

being fully vaccinated. Your vaccination status must meet the Spanish authorities’ validity period requirements. See ‘If you’re fully vaccinated’.

a negative COVID-19 test: either a PCR taken within 72 hours prior to departure, or an antigen test taken within 24 hours prior to departure. See ‘If you’re not fully vaccinated’.

having recovered from COVID-19 in the last 6 months. You can use a medical certificate or recovery record to prove your COVID-19 status on entry to Spain. See ‘If you’ve had COVID-19 in the past year’.

These requirements do not apply to children under 12 years old. See ‘Children and young people’

You are no longer required to complete a health control form prior to travel. This applies to both vaccinated and unvaccinated travellers.

You may be subject to additional checks at the point of entry including a temperature check, visual health assessment, or testing on arrival. Passengers may also be contacted and required to undertake a COVID-19 nucleic acid amplification test - NAAT (PCR or similar) at any point up to 48 hours after their arrival in Spain. More information can be found on the Spanish government’s Border Health Controls webpage.

Spain’s land borders are open, but there may be travel restrictions, border controls and testing requirements depending on the country you are travelling from. For further details see If you’re transiting through Spain.

Thank you, we are well aware of all of the above rules. We are just worried that our Antigen tests won’t make it through the post on time due to Thursdays postal strike.

Just no booster. One of us got quite I’ll after the second jab so decided against the it. We’ve also had Covid three times each Each time fairly mild.

Family members recently came back and said they never see anyone and wasn't asked at all. Worse that will happen is they will make you have a test there if they were to check.

I think you are right. But at a much greater cost. Antigen tests have arrived now so all good Thank you

Nor does it say they will deport you either, so I think making you pay for an expensive test while quarantined at the airport is probably more likely.

It gives entry requirements, that's all, requirements for entry. Failure to meet entry requirements will probably mean no entry. Anything else is just speculation.

Log in online and download/print the form, no need to wait for the postal version.

So long as you have the QR code printed off it should suffice.

We never had any checks from leaving the Uk or arriving in Gran Canaria, I had my covid vaccine records on my nhs app but never had to show them x

Everyone we know or spoken to have not seen anyone or been stopped. We have heard of someone a little while ago being stopped in mainland spain and they were given a test at the airport.

We will be going g.c in a few weeks and wont be bothering

Indeed:

From 21 October 2022, all COVID-19 travel restrictions for travellers to Spain have been lifted. The rules that previously applied to travellers coming to Spain no longer apply:

• you are no longer required to show proof of being fully vaccinated

• you are no longer required to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test

• you are no longer required to show proof of having recovered from COVID-19 in the last 6 months.

• you are no longer required to complete a health control form prior to travel.
