Good news?

It would appear that the beach sunbeds are to reappear! At last!

Published 3rd Feb 2022;

https://www.guidetocanaryislands.com/sunbeds-will-be-back-maspalomas-playa-del-ingles-beaches-gran-canaria/

Sunbeds will be back to Maspalomas and Playa del Ingles beaches in Gran Canaria. The City Council of San Bartolomé de Tirajana has requested on Monday that the service of sunbeds and umbrellas on Playa del Inglés and Maspalomas be resumed, after being suspended since March 14, 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The service will restart with around 1,500 sunbeds and 750 umbrellas which should be sufficient for the moment, but their number will be progressively increased...

About time, tho remember - they were not takin away because of the Pandemic, they were takin away in early Feb 2020 because of a money issue. The beach is much better with beds so great news as it has been far too long.

More importantly (for me), I also read, verbatim:

“Several new beach kiosks have also been placed, declaring Maspalomas open for the springtime.”

Granted they’ve been there since 2020, but that tells me, or my mind is hoping, dos cerveza por favor.

I just need some of our wonderful swinging community living there, or going on holibobs over the next 9 weeks to tell me. Yes Jord, you shall have a freezing cold beer!

I’ve just checked the web cams around the beaches and can see a few sun beds out but boy does it look windy, even one of the web cams was rocking back and forth!

Maspalomas Pride begins on 6th May - which is when the beaches become their busiest. Has anyone heard any rumours about the kiosks opening in time for Pride?

I had managed to read the comment above mine thanks, but as that information was quite old I thought there was no harm in checking the current status.

Your input is much appreciated and I shall be looking out for any further helpful information that you are able provide for us all.

The story doing the rounds here is that the kiosks need to be taken in their entirety and not as individual kiosks. This is a risky endeavour given the current economic climate and the fact that the powers that be can't seem to make up their minds whether they want the beaches commercialised or not.

That’s a shame, I’d have myself a kiosk.

If that’s the case, a shame that a cooperative or a consortium couldn’t get together and invest collectively.

But as you say, the other issue is whether they allow the beaches to be commercialised, which is a bit strange given they’ve been in the past.

Ever the optimist.
