We ventured down to the beach today, around the old Kiosk 4. We had read there were no sun beds down there now so knew it wouldn't be as good as we remembered. And with the wind blowing again we would have normally found a sheltered spot in the Dunes. Also read on here that the Dunes are now out of bounds so we were surprised not to see any signs saying this. Surely if the area is closed there should be signs making that clear. The only difference we could see was lots more posts clearly defining the footpath. Could see the usual meerkats in the distance so to be honest left confused about what's what down there now

its been covered in several other posts but you can be fined for venturing off the paths from the Rui hotel to the dunes.

Its clearly signed at the _iewpoint at the Rui and several other locations but some have been defaced and I dont think saying you didnt see the signs would be an acceptable excuse. you can still climb the dunes at the beach to sunbath but not in the areas with shrubs as they are and always have been protected

I'd say so, we saw them putting all the new path marking posts in 2019 so it was coming before covid

There was also a report that removing the sun beds had a huge effect on the movement of sand so the environmentalists might be resisting the return

But then they're also missing from the main PDI beach, so it's not primarily an environmental issue.

We won’t return if the sun beds aren’t there. We love the beach but want a couple of beds and a brollie by the bar. We won’t be lugging all that extra stuff from the apartment.

Not primarily no, but still could be a factor and the effects were well documented of all the sunbeds not just K4 there was an exhibit in the building beside the Riu in February 2020 showing the shifts

Paddy's is a small bar, fronts onto the beach at Maspalomas. Tiny outdoor space but perfect to watch the beachgoers headed off the beach. Owned by a couple of Mancs(City fans), has(had) live music on some evenings and was a friendly wee bar. Bar snack menu stretched to a ham and cheese toastie(if not busy) and there's only shared toilets, you have to get your hand stamped, or you are charged for the toilets, which are downstairs in the main centre.

It's an ok place but not a Swingers meeting point. Hope that helps

Half term week there were loads of people walking the dunes off the official paths and realistically without loads of signs and proper fences how the f can it be enforced? Witnessed a fair amount of couples playing in the dunes but not as much as usual and not especially in the usual established areas.

The thing about the Spanish police is that if they decide to fine you then no amount of arguing is going to help, in fact they will lock you up until you pay.

Consult with the locals rather than tourists on social media.

We were approached by the wardens in December 2020 we were on the path but had stopped for a rest.

The wardens said we couldn't stop and that you had to keep walking when we asked where the signs were that told us they said they were in the entrance to the beach at Maspalomas we looked later but we couldn't find anything.

The funny thing was that the only sign that had any information was an official sign telling us to use our bags as a head rest to stop it from being stolen when I said that using your bag as a head rest while you were walking was impossible the warden got very stern and told us that all the signs had been vandalised by tourists which was ironic because the local guys that came up to us after told us the locals had defaced the signs because they felt they had a right to roam freely in the dunes.

This December we will stay just on the beach where the scrubs start Val does enjoy the attentions of single guys if there is a short fall of single guys we are sure we can make up for it in the clubs or cinema.

"without loads of signs and proper fences how the f can it be enforced?"

They can't stop everyone, but they don't need to. Just wander down once a week, and fine 10 people, and gradually the word will get around that it's not worth it.

But will they do that? No-one knows.

Would recommend Pepes near Paddy’s for a bite to eat. Get a nice freezing cold beer and a chicken burger (cooked in clean oil) for a reasonable price. Lots of other great options too.

They used to do complementary bruschetta but have sadly stopped this year. Always a highlight and a treat. Still would recommend before going to Paddy’s for a Guinness.

"I read a CNN article today

I think this is also another reason why the dunes are being closed off. For many years I have witnessed sex shows etc going on right next to the paths that families where using to get to the beach. Years ago I remember that other couples would watch out for families and would call out so people would stop,or if a family settled down to sit they would be advised that this is not a good area to stay, but this seemed to reduce over the years. I’m sure there has been complains put to the tourist department about rude activities, and am sure the spainish gov don’t want to be classed as another cap d’agde

( nothing wrong with cap d’agde )

Plus the internet and media doing sensationalising stories. Like that german reporter that did a sting operation where they left a young single lady sitting in the dunes and filmed one of the well know local guys approaching her…. Ok he was waving a part of his body at her, but putting this out on the TV is like when they do shows on dogging on uk TV programs there is a surge in people going out to carpark either to see what is all about or cause problems or post the locations on YouTube

Penrith, Cumbria

just returned from GC and no bars or sunbeds on beaches any more and wardens patrol the dunes telling people to keep to the path. This was in the area where all the blokes go tbh. Witnessed the wardens telling sunbathers to move as it was now "forbidden" and we go told to walk on the marked paths only. Apparently all down to the fact that during covid the natural fauna has re-established and they want to protect that.

Rumoured that the wardens only patrol in the mornings until 2pm at the latest, their tactics do seem to work as dunes much much quieter than previous.

And I know people go there but it's probably not a good idea to publicly state how you trespass in a world heritage site, it doesn't reflect well on British holiday makers and I'm sure it will encourage an even more strict enforcement even in the afternoons.

It a site of ecological importance, and should be protected. I do wonder if the people who want to go and shag and stomp through the dunes are the same ones who ignore the restrictions on SSSI sites in the UK? It's a nature reserve, why is it so difficult to stay on the damn paths?

Reading with intrest because we're going in March (first time). Must admit I'm a bit conflicted. We've heard great things about the dunes and the prospect of filthy times in natural surroundings sounds awesome. However I don't think that personal desire trumps the needs of the natural environment. Likewise its sad to hear some people are satisfying themselves sexually without regard for other beach users who don't want to see that. We are naturist also in the vanilla sense and we sometimes enjoy naturist beaches with some of our family. So I totally get why people (especially families) don't want to come across that. Now I know people will say its a big space and you can have fun as well as be respectful of the environment and other beach users, this is ture. But clearly there's a fair few who don't. So I do understand the use of enforcement. It's a real shame as we were looking forward to some relaxed sexy times in the dunes but I get there's bigger issues at stake. And it's not like there's not plenty of clubs for swinging activities so we can still get our fill. The main thing is we can enjoy the beach naked and there's still places to go for the extras.

"Watching as going on 4th dec. so can you still sunbath on the beach there."

And you can still climb the sand dunes at the beach and in front of the Rui hotel just keep away from vegetation that's roped off. We saw several climbing over the ropes on to the dunes and flattening the shrubs to make space to lie down ... Yes seriously

Beach tents sound a good idea reading some of posts we’ve always had upmost respect for dunes when we’ve gone in to sunbathe and play we fly in back end of this week if we are to enjoy the dunes we may have to wait until the wardens finish patrolling wouldn’t be surprised if fun is happening much nearer towards the edge of the dunes for a quick getaway to the beach when the wardens are spotted

Currently here and yes can confirm there are dune wardens or whatever you would like to call them black trousers Burgundy shirts khaki caps Saturday they arrived and sat in prime spot in Dunes stood near there pick up advising footpath strayers and fun seekers of the route to go all good mannered no heavy handed attitude Sunday 10 am today and they are out team of 4 clearing everyone mainly guys out of the beach edge of the dunes and all the little foliage Dens they play in but on a brighter note they seem to go around 1-2 pm and yesterday a few naughty couples were straight into the usual spots with large following of Maspalomas Meerkats so it’s not doom and Dune xD&G

I'd guess they were warned in the morning and if someone shows up after 2 and starts handing out €600 fines they'll have nothing tonmoan about.

Costa Blanca Spain...

"Exactly and it’s not like you can’t have / find sex elsewhere on the island "

Have to agree with this.

We have only had one swinger holiday in GC. Long before the restrictions in the dunes.

We stayed at La Mirage and ventured into one of the clubs on most evenings and had more than enough sex.

We only went into the dunes once and while Mrs did play with (and fuck) a couple of guys in there, it wasn't what I would call our best day. We didn't bother going back.

Great to hear there’s still something going on in the dunes ,,, we love the place and we have had many many erotic encounters there. Roll on 8 days time and we are back again.

I was the from the 4th December

Was told the that the wardens patrol during the day and advise people. After 2pm they leave which appeared to be the case. I saw and had action from 4pm onwards

Mrs had some action in the Dunes back in November. Had 3 or 4 guys which she throughly enjoyed. That was late on though around 5pm.

You really are missing the point, it's about protecting a vulnerable wildlife site, not dodging wardens.

We actually think it's you who is missing the point. This is a swingers site to discuss sex opportunities and not wildlife.

We respect everywhere we visit and really don't see an issue with having sex a few foot into the dunes rather than laying on the beach.

We ensure we take any litter with us including condoms and wet wipes.

That’s good that you take your mess with you , but whist your doing what you want in the dunes you attract others who probably won’t take there mess with them , we all love the dunes and need to protect them for other generations to use ,

Of course it's a swingers site but that really doesn't mean the only _iews which can be expressed have to be only about sex!

Any updates on the sunbed situation? And are the kiosks open? I've been trying to contact the local authorities.....they have replied indicating that "progress is being made" - it would appear there is a dispute! But we all know what the Spanish authorities are like!!!!!

Hopefully - as tourists start to return then they will get their act together!

You would think they would allow them to work and so, start to pay back what they owe and maybe it would attract more people to go to the beach.

Ya was on to the local authorities and the tourist board and the same old story we'll pass it on to the appropriate person, typical spanish attitude to any problem ,ignore till people start going somewhere else to holiday and then its to late and livelihoods are ruined.....lived in spain for a while its prehistoric system would make your eyes bleed ... don't think you'll see sunbeds on the the beach for at least a year if youd have had my experience of the spanish way of doing things.

Canadian News is now publishing stories about the optimistic expectation of the Canarian government that this will be a very successful year for tourism - which is good to hear but will this be reflected in the sunbeds and beach bars being reinstated? Do any of our pals who live in GC have any

inside information?
