"I did read on one site that the Province of Alicante is trying to get the 90/180 rule relaxed and are working with the UK government on it. How true that is and how much success they'll have is another question!" I've heard that story a couple of times. True or false? I've no idea. However I really don't see how Alicante province could deal directly with the UK on this. There are too many other layers of government. Firstly Alicante is only one of three provinces in Valencia region so they would be involved. Next would be the Spanish government, but ultimately it would be the EU that would decide. Spain (including Alicante) is part of the Schengen area and the ramifications of allowing one small province to negotiate a separate deal would affect the whole area. I don't see it ever happening.

Yes i read that too they realise how much money they are losing but im not sure they can do it independently as they are in the Schengen area countries outside the Schengen can i think.

"The 90/180 day issue can be resolved with individual countries. Does not have to be run past the whole of Schengen or the EU." Interesting

"Hi everyone, I live in Alicante and what has happened is that the Valencia politicians have asked the Spanish government to not require a visa, or make it easier to get one. It seems there will be no success, at least now. And as it has been said here, it has to be a Spanish government decision, not EU, not Alicante." Of course the EU will have the final say. Or did Boris tell lies about the UK not having control of our own borders whilst part of the EU ?

UK citizens will not need a visa to enter Spain, just the ETIAS which is like the U.S. Esta system. €7 and will last for 3 years from what I have read although the roll out may be delayed

"The 90/180 day issue can be resolved with individual countries. Does not have to be run past the whole of Schengen or the EU. Nope, the rule is for all visitors to countries in the Schengen area, it's an EU rule and individual countries can not negotiate their own rules. " Actually, they can. Each country's got the option to extend the length of stay beyond that mandated by the Brexit agreement. But it will only apply to the country that's offering the extended stay, not the entire Schengen region.

I am sure the french would love it. ![]()
