All changes on Monday.

No more PCR tests needs. Just proof of covid jabs and locator forms.

Sorry that's not absolutely correct, after 4th October you still need a day 2 test although this can be LFT instead of PCR assuming you are double jabbed and not coming from a red country

It’s all very confusing but I’m sure you still need a PCR day 2 test, that’s not changing till the end of October. You don’t need a test to fly home after 4th October.

My understanding is that from the 4th October, you do not have to have the pre-travel test a couple of days before you leave.

Also on the 4th October, you have either a red list of countries, which essentially means don’t go, or a green list, which is deemed safe to travel.

Assuming you are travelling from a green country and double jabbed, then they are aiming by the end of October, to remove the need of a PCR test on day 2. They endeavour to have this in place for the school holidays. If not, you’ll need a PCR test.

Now providing they get everything in place, you will still need a test on day 2, but this will be the cheaper LFT test and should you test positive, then you will be provided with a free PCR test, so they can deep dive and identify new strains/variants.

People who are not double jabbed, will still need to go through the process of a PCR test on day 2 and day 8.

That is my layman’s understanding of the process.

Hot off the press.

From 24th October you can take the lateral flow test instead of PCR, if you’re fully vaccinated and travelling from a non-red country.

Just to add that these LFTs still have to be purchased privately and there will be a list of approved private providers on the gov uk site.

Let’s hope they don’t take the piss.

If you do test positive, then you’ll be entitled to a free PCR test.

If you’ve already gone through the arrangements and purchased PCR tests, then these are valid. You don’t have to get another test.

You’ll be able to take a photograph of your results and the booking reference supplied by the provider and send it back as proof.

If you haven’t been vaccinated, then you still need to take a PCR on day 2 after arriving and quarantine for 10 days at home.

Hope this helps.
