Doyouspain about the same unfortunately most of the hire companies have sold a lot of their cars because of COVID-19 so the cars they have left are expensive

We were going to hire a car this time.

The prices compared to bussing, taxis, and shankses pony, have swayed us not to hire

I am going to Corralejo on Monday and hired a car for 24 hours as it was cheaper than taking taxi from the airport. Cots €34. Picking up at the airport and dropping it off at the harbour in Corralejo the following day. I am aware it does not suit everyone.

This is the first time in last 7yrs we have not hired a car in GC. Price has nearly doubled since last time. Companies are just ripping the piss now.

"Doyouspain about the same unfortunately most of the hire companies have sold a lot of their cars because of COVID-19 so the cars they have left are expensive "

Exactly this. They sold off lots of their fleets because the demand was low. Now there is a shortage and supply and demand kicks in.

If you do hire a car here please be aware that Canarians have their own idea about how a roundabout works. The ouside lane can be used for any exit including 360 degrees. The inside lane is used to overtake those on the ouside lane. For example the person on the inside of the roundabout might be going directly through at high speed and the person on the outside might be going left. It doesn't work but that doesn't stop them doing it. Something to be mindful of.

Also roundabouts double up as stopping zones.

We did Cicar too - similar price. What seems to have changed is that now they include excess insurance. Before they tried to sell excess insurance. This cost loads, but a uk bought excess policy was cheap. So it seems they are cutting out this cost saving option

Just looked at top car who have always been great at about 120 for a week with no stupid hidden deposits but now around 300. Has to be said though it was very cheap before. Makes you wonder how they made money then!

Try Autoreisen...not on any of the search engines, no deposit/held amount on credit card.

I used them earlier this month and found them to be cheapest. They even upgraded at no extra cost and also offer 2nd driver option for free

Cheapest ? Maybe

Still more than double for a week in October what we paid for a week in March 2020

We didn't bother in August and won't bother in October as the bus costs €3.50 from tbe airport to PDI and 40 minutes or thereabouts

Just bringing this thread back to life to get a consensus from the GC massive who have hired cars over the years.

Has anyone booked recently or do they feel prices are still high?

How about fuel? Is this expensive?

Thanks in advance.

We have just been for 7 days in January with 5 friends. We were initially going to hire 2 cars but instead our friends hired one and we jumped on the transfer. By the end of the week they had used their car once to nip and do a little shopping but it was parked up for the rest of the time. at 285 euros it made for a very expensive transfer

How often do the busses go from and to the airport? Is there a bus company you recommend that we could look up? I would like to book in advance. Thanks

The express bus goes every hour and there are others in between.

Go to Google maps and look for the bus stops at the airport and when you click on one it gives you the bus numbers, routes and times
