Tell ye what Fabio, goons such as this are far better 'out' for all normal folks to see, rather than ferreting away underground up to their usual crackpot and retarded ways.....!!

Talking about underground, they're also pretty adept at digging their own graves too......

Ah well, I suppose life wouldn't be the same without the likes of these nutters reminding us all just how lucky we are!

"What's a "Gammon"?"

It’s a term used to reference older white gentlemen of a political leaning to the right.

Is there an irony of someone calling out racism and intolerance by using a term firmly predicated on someone’s skin colour????

Twitter is a private entity and has no obligation to uphold anyone's right to free speech.

Their only obligation is to make money by selling ads and produce a return for their shareholders.

It's almost as if right wingers hate capitalism.

I'd rather see her suspended over a pit of rabid dogs or a pool of hungry sharks.

But Twitter can block whoever they wish. I doubt the twitterworld will be any poorer from her absence.

the twitter story just got a whole lot more interesting...

a youtube "prankster" has admitted to setting up a fake award in a stunt to get her out to prague on monday night......

the background for the stunt is classic.... the acceptance speech she made.... all i can describe it as is...

I would put up a youtube link for it... but....

The more astute will also note her speech extracts were massively edited to make certain aspects seem worse.

She is a horrible person but the hatchet job was worse. I'm sure she doesn't care, she had a freebee of the stupid pricks.

Someone is only a "gammon" if they're a a right wing, Brexit supporting, ignorant racist. Sure it applies to white people, because that's the stereotype of the above person. But that's not the primary meaning behind it.

The difference between standard racism, that so many people on here are into, is you're hating on someone because of their skin colour.

Calling someone a "gammon" is in reference to their choice to be ignorant and hateful.

If someone called a black person the “N” word it would rightly be called out as racism.

If someone calls a white person a Gammon, it’s perfectly acceptable in many peoples eyes.

This forum doesn't support GIFs but there is a great one that shows all the hate black/Asian/minorities put up with and then a tiny ball of hate bounces onto a white person and they're the ones that crumble and cry.

.

That's not quite true, at least it's not in the USA, Facebook, Twitter and various platforms are considered open spaces and are given immunity from posting libelous material.

To be classed as that you have to be an open space free from moderation, if they wish to moderate what is posted then they also should be available for suing in court.

Gammon

Most websites agree

This is from From wikipedia;

Gammon is a pejorative term popularised in British political culture since around 2012, which received press coverage in 2018. In 2018, it became particularly known as a term to describe middle-aged or older men on the political right or who supported Brexit, who are usually, but not exclusively, white.

Usually. Usually. Can you read ? I said twice just in case . If you are not sure what “usually” means , come back to me and I’ll paste that for you . OK ?

Untwist your right wing panties ladies.!

The great Charles Dickens used the term in 1838 in a similar context to today in his 1838 novel, Nicholas nicklby.

Here’s the passage.

The time had been, when this burst of enthusiasm would have been cheered to the very echo; but now, the deputation received it with chilling coldness. The general impression seemed to be, that as an explanation of Mr. Gregsbury’s political conduct, it did not enter quite enough into detail; and one gentleman in the rear did not scruple to remark aloud, that, for his purpose, it savoured rather too much of a 'gammon' tendency.

The meaning of that term—gammon,' said Mr. Gregsbury, 'is unknown to me. If it means that I grow a little too fervid, or perhaps even hyperbolical, in extolling my native land, I admit the full justice of the remark. I am proud of this free and happy country. My form dilates, my eye glistens, my breast heaves, my heart swells, my bosom burns, when I call to mind her greatness and her glory..

Go watch the JRE podcasts with Jack Dorsey. Thats not what he thinks, he wants it an open platform for conversation. Not really doing that are they though. They dont enforce there ToS fairly at all. There is a definite argument to be made that social media is so big and important now that they should be treated like public utilities. Some companies dont bother with anything but twitter now.

Funny now freedom of speech is suddenly a Right wing hill

Sajid Javid is Gammon. James Cleverly is Gammon. Priti Patel is gammon.

Not about skin colour or gender.

So would it be ok to refer to all people with big black frizzy hair as golliwogs? Personally I think not, but the people on here who think gammon is acceptable will consiser that acceptable too. Very sad

You don’t have to be white to be gammon. You can be white and not be gammon . I don’t understand your point tbh

You know very well Gammon is used as term to dissmiss older white males. To say otherwise would be wrong...

Look up the description online for gammon. I think you will find you are wrong ? Anyway, why are people getting so upset about being called gammon? Seems like snowflake behaviour to me I dont think people are getting upset, well im not anyway but find it very ironic someone of colour going on about racism and uses the term. "

Just to reiterate, You don’t have to be white to be gammon, look it up if you don’t believe me . Do you think Katie Hopkins should have been banned from twitter??

Grantham

Dickins used the term "gammon" to describe someone's complexion back in the 19th century.

Hardly new.

Would you call someone of that description AND Jewish that though?

I would have thought that would cause huge offence.

So a middle aged Jewish white man would be offended at being called a gammon?

Oh wait. As I was typing the question. The penny dropped. Well done sir.

.

It is my any modern standard used for hate non crimes as defined by West Yorkshire police because and I quote, hate is determined by the target.

Gammons can indeed self identify it as racist hate speech.

Lots of people seeking to talk down and deny the rise in hate crime over recent years.

I would hazard a guess (and it would be a guess) that the majority of those people attempting to do so are white middle aged males.

I personally wouldnt care less if you called me gammon, i would probably just laugh at you.

But to think words cant change meaning or how they are used is silly. Are you aware Faggot for example was used as an insult to women originally? Nothing to do with Homosexuality at all. So to say the word Gammon isnt now used to dimiss somones veiws because of being a middle aged white male is

disingenuous

Gammon has nothing to do with "white oppressors".

It's just describing someone going red in the face with confusion and anger. They're usually bigots. They're usually Brexit voters.

Agree with her ban. Still amazes me that Trump can threaten war and nuclear Armageddon on some countries on Twitter but that doesn’t raise an eyebrow or receive a ban. That, apparently, is compliant with Twitter guidelines. Go figure.

Depends. Its not overtly racist like the N word. Which is pretty much just the Latin word for Black then slowly changed in to a racist slur. More how its starting to be more commonly used as a retort to dimiss someones views instead of debating them (like we are doing now) You see it on the cess pit that is social media everyday. Then people wonder why Brexit happened and Trump was voted in

Depends. Its not overtly racist like the N word. Which is pretty much just the Latin word for Black then slowly changed in to a racist slur. More how its starting to be more commonly used as a retort to dimiss someones views instead of debating them (like we are doing now) You see it on the cess pit that is social media everyday. Then people wonder why Brexit happened and Trump was voted in"

You didn’t even come close to answering my question. Here is an example , is it racist for a 36 year old man born in England to call someone ‘gammon’ ?

"I'd say it's near wholy accepted that the term gammon is now referring to middle aged white angry men.

Only to the uneducated , (btw i am not referring directly to you) but gammon isn’t a racist insult .

It is my any modern standard used for hate non crimes as defined by West Yorkshire police because and I quote, hate is determined by the target.

Gammons can indeed self identify it as racist hate speech.

Indeed this is correct. i could call someone a twat and that could be taken as hate crime if they deem it so. Thats why statistics showing the rise of "Hate Crime" are extremelyy misleading

It can be defined as a hate crime, but calling someone a twat isn’t a ‘racist’ hate crime

No but if i called a black person a twat and they took it as racist it will be reported as such. Same with LGBT hate crime

Give me one example of somebody who has been prosecuted for a ‘race hate’ crime after calling a person ‘gammon’ . Or give me one example of person being banned from social media for doing the same .

Might struggle with that yeah, But mainly because Intersectionality you cant be racist to white people apparently.

There you go. Only a ‘snowflake ‘ would think ‘gammon’ is a racist insult

Sajid Javid is gammon. So is Priti Patel. So is James Cleverly. So is Mark François. Only one of those is a middle aged white male.

Those people have also been called coconuts and race traitors...because they hold conservative views, funnily enough they come from the most socially conservative backgrounds in the UK but hated because they are not Labour. Bit of a double standard there. They are called Gammon because in peoples eyes they are on the "white oppressors" side of the bench and there ethnicity doesnt matter anymore

Probably not no in that sense. Could be bit like colourism, bit like a black person calling another a coconut or house N for example.

Interested to know after this coversation would you call me a gammon?

"What's a "Gammon"?

It’s a term used to reference older white gentlemen of a political leaning to the right.

Is there an irony of someone calling out racism and intolerance by using a term firmly predicated on someone’s skin colour????

Not about skin colour or gender.

So would it be ok to refer to all people with big black frizzy hair as golliwogs? Personally I think not, but the people on here who think gammon is acceptable will consiser that acceptable too. Very sad

I don't understand your point tbh. Anyone with black hair can decide to go big and frizzy with it. So 8s it ok to call them a golliwog on that basis? For me it isn't but you may disagree.

Because gammon has same historical context as nigger..

I’ll say it again your an idiot..

"

Well we were having a polite debate no need to call me an Idiot thanks, far from it actually. Saying things like shows you are historically illiterate. Maybe you might want to research what the Romans did in Gaul and Britain, what the Barbary pirates did in Western Europe and the Ottomans got up to in Eastern Europe. The root word of Slave is Slav as in the Slavic people. Every country has done horrible things. Read my previous post where i admit the term Gammon isnt as overtley racist in its use atm, but im sure there are people who do use it that way. In the same way the Niger was not racist to begin with but morphed into the N word in the 18th century. We would be better if we didnt just dimiss peoples views straight away with stuff like "youre just a gammon ect ect"

People are called ‘gammon’ based on their attitude and opinions not their appearance . Why would someone call a white person with ‘big and frizzy’ hair a golliwog? Care to elaborate ?

I just subscribe to the view, that people that use "buzzwords", such as "gammon", "libtard", "cluster fuck" and "bliar", are just trying to be hip. Usually without much success.

Funny how people spout all kinds of race hate on here, islamaphobic views etc. And the right winger forum posters ignore it or cheer them on.

But one mention of "gammon" and you guys get really upset.

No they can’t "

.

According to the west Yorkshire hate crime unit they indeed can because hate is decided upon by the receiver and not by the words or actions.

If they perceive it at hate, it's recorded as hate.

So you can be reported and logged as using non crime hate speech for calling somebody gammon.

According to the west Yorkshire hate crime unit they indeed can because hate is decided upon by the receiver and not by the words or actions.

If they perceive it at hate, it's recorded as hate.

So you can be reported and logged as using non crime hate speech for calling somebody gammon.

Is it hate speech or race hate speech ? Make your mind up "

.

If they perceive it as race hate speech then it is recorded as that!.

As we seem to be getting sidetracked by failing to agree on the meaning of the term “gammon”, can we at least decide whether we agree with Katie’s opinions on people with epilepsy and the entire population of the continent of Asia?

I don't study the figures of it because I'm not really interested in name calling but as I've already told you go and read the website.

All Hate speech is defined by the receiver.

Gammon isn’t hate speech, end of discussion. .

Have you tried being the receiver instead of the giver?.

Might help your thinking

Are snowflake and woke hate words? .

Anything is hate speech as it's defined by the receiver, if they perceive it as hate, it's recorded as hate.

I don't agree with it but that's the police line.

Do you think the words gammon, snowflake and woke are race hate speech. Yes or no? .

Me personally?

No.

Thank you, case closed . .

I don't police it though?.

If I did nothing would be considered hate speech as I'd just tell everybody to man up

Is saying ‘man up ‘ hate speech, sexist maybe ? .

According to snowflakes yes.

And the police?? "

No they can’t .

Make your mind up .

If they perceive it as race hate speech then it is recorded as that!.

You’re wrong, good effort though. Do you have any examples of people being prosecuted for calling someone gammon, or anybody who has been banned from social media? Any at all? Just one will do .

why don't you just go and read the West Yorkshire hate crime units website where all questions are answered.

You’re trying to compare using the N word with the term ‘gammon’ ? Are you suggesting that they have the same racist connotations? That they have the same impact on the ‘receiver’ ?

You can’t give me one example of a person being prosecuted or being banned from social media for using the term ‘gammon,, I can show you thousands that have when using the N word? I wonder why?

You don’t think either is hate speech?

Do you think it is acceptable to use both words when describing a person ? Would you tell

Now you've gone off on a completely different tangent inferring I had compared "hate".

I did no such thing, what I said was that according to the west Yorkshire hate crime unit, calling somebody gammon is indeed race hate speech if the receiver defines it as such, as all hate speech is defined by the receiver and not by the words being used hence why rappers aren't in prison for using the n word!!.

YOU seem to be the person wanting to define "hate" not i

It is if it comes from another person of colour. For example a poc Labour voter might call another poc a coconut for voting conservative.

Taken from an article

The term ‘coconut’ is a pejorative and perceptive label that others establish based on assumptions and stereotypes. More often than not it is a negative label applied to those seen as deviant from standard cultural norms. The word ‘coconut’ itself is an intra-racial slur that calls into question the blackness of ‘coconuts’, suggesting a divisively narrow conception of what it means to be black.

"

It wasn't a speech to the Danish Parliament but to an anti-Muslim group. They masquerade as the Free Press Society, and give an award every year.
