This isn't a U turn. This a full blown World Rally Championship screaming handbrake turn.

Really, how incompetent can a government be?

It is extraordinary. Last week the Spectator ran a long article about No 10 based on insider sources - it was pretty dynamite stuff !

It appears that the government are to pay Reform for their legal fees relating to the legal case they submitted. Going to be some busy people now getting this organised as they thought they were going to get away with not bothering with elections

I may despise Reform and everything they stand for, but as a legitimate party they should have the democratic opportunity as much as everyone else has, as is right and proper.

.

If it means they royally screw up, then that's on them. The point is, in a democracy we give others enough rope so that we may see them by their actions.

Looking forward to all the lefties in here who’ve been defending Starmer cancelling elections to now defend him reinstating them. I could do with a good laugh

I presume that record voting numbers will be recorded for local elections as all the people who demanded their right to vote turn out. Or will it be about the same numbers as always?

Should people who don't vote lose that right ?

I thought Starmer had said hardly anyone had objected, that everyone understood the reasons and were very supportive?

"

Great question. Much as I want to say YES, some people actively choose to not visit the ballot box if they wish to show their dissatisfaction with the choices on offer. Also, some might be disinterested at one election and engaged another. As such, I come down on the NO side on this one.

I believe that voting should be compulsory. At the bottom of the ballot paper the option to tick a box marked none of the above should be available. There is no excuse not to vote with the availability of postal votes.

Stourport-On-Severn

Yesterday lunchtime Jeremy Vine was interviewing Starmer on his radio show. Vine pointed out to him that the government had done 13 policy u-turns since coming to power. He also asked Starmer the direct question "will there be any more government u-turns", to which Starmer replied "No". Less than 2 hours latter the government announces this election u-turn.

You really couldn't make this shit up.

It wasn't a U turn at all.

It was a strategic reappraisal of the prevailing conditions to flexibly react to ......

Bollocks, it was a U turn.

Story now that Labour threatened Councils with funding cuts if they didn't ask for elections to be postponed. Another resignation on the cards...

Colchester

Reading some comments, ministers argued that due to local government changes in certain areas, holding expensive elections for councils that would not exist in a few years would be a waste of public money.

.

Now said councils are in a rush to print ballot papers and prepare polling stations.

.

Rush jobs tend to be more costly affairs than normal planned jobs.

.

Ultimately, the delay and then the reversal will be more costly in the long run.

.

Still, it's the right thing to do and let democracy and people have their say when they are supposed to have that chance. Kicking things in to the long grass is not a good look.

That’ll be funding cuts using tax payers money, that would have benefited communities.

Cue the next U turn: 2TK's choice for Cabinet Secretary is now in serious dog do. Turns out what Liebour said was 3 complaints from a single person were actually multiple complaints from multiple complainants. Rest assured, 2TK was never told about them. The bloke collects banana skins faster than Fyffes.

On Talk Radio, a former Labour adviser Paul Richards has told the nation that it’s Nigel Farage’s fault that the money that could have been used to fix pot holes and on social care is now being spent on elections.

What are these people smoking?
