From the land of haribos.

I didnt know where the term came from, did you? It is a hockey term that everyone learns when starting to play hockey, you are taught to keep your "elbows up" as a defense mechanism signalising you are ready to protect or to fight back, the phrase originates from hockey legend gordie howe, known for his toughness and use of elbows on the ice.

The elbow up movement have gained momentum, it is appearing across social media platforms, it is in protest encouraging canadians to stand up and fight back.

What is your view about it, do you agree with what they do?

I can see why they do it, as they are protesting against the tariffs too.

I'm sure trump is losing zero hours sleep over a load of people raising their elbows on social media.

He literally gives zero fucks.

its more performative bollocks basically that is going to have no impact at all, bit like all the lunatics who were going to not have sex after trump won, then again when you looked at the state of most of them they probably weren't having sex with any one beforehand

Movements like this can have more impact than people realise. They often galvanise people to take further action and certainly bring people together.

I see it similar to when Gerald Rayner kyboshed the brand, peer pressure is part of it but it's also got a feeling good element to it in that 'one is buying from here'..

I've known a few Canadians and they have all beem very very polite. So the elbows up thing is the Canadian way of saying f*ck you to Trump and his enablers.

The equivalent thing in some US states would be jumping up and down and screaming with an assault rifle in your hands.

3rd line defenceman/winger … Lea valley lions jrs circa 1990 ish here….

Yep.. know the term… elbows up… protect yourself, get ready to fight… so Canadian 🇨🇦!! (Have the hockey theme from cbc in my head now!)

Trump repartition of calling Canada the 51st state has really…. Really pissed them off!

If you want to see how much trump’s comments have antagonised Canada go and watch the 4 nations ice hockey between Canada and USA in Montreal where the US gets booed mercilessly… followed by 3 different fights in the first 10 seconds!

Anyway I like the premise.. take the American stuff off the shelves and buy Canadian! Also.. tourism is down 80%

It’s one of those things where your average American (especially the Republican) doesn’t realise the hatred Canadians have for Trump right now!

Reminds me of my days at Michigan State when if I had nothing better to do on a Saturday night… turns it on to channel 9 and watching the hockey!

Speaking of fights.. if you put in “Canada vs Russia 1987 hockey fight” in YouTube you will see something glorious! Don’t wanna spoil it!
