"********Sir Keir defended his right to continue to take football freebies earlier this week, saying: "If I don't accept a gift of hospitality, I can't go to a game." "Never going to an Arsenal game again because I can't accept hospitality is pushing it a bit far," he added.********* What the actual flying fffffffff? " 20 grand a year, is that excessive?" It’s alot less than Sunak's wife took off the taxpayer in company furlough payments before bankrupting the company owing large amounts to HMRC. But it’s not a good look in the face of taking £200 of ten million pensioners.

Obviously not, but that's how journalists have to distort stories to make an impact. Same with the ASLEF (15%) and junior doctors (22%) pay rises. Presented as allegedly inflation busting, but when broken down over the entire pay periods, not so. And then the indignant posters get themselves all worked up over a distorted story, showing ignorance and the inability to think critically. The Murdoch family, for example, has made billions out of this type of journalism and the gullible fall for it everytime.

The pay rises are above inflation, to say "not so" is as misleading as the headlines and media empire you have complained about. Starmer having the highest amount of gift declarations amongst all MP's is okay and diluting the amount by averaging it out is just so tory.

That can soon change and was demonstrated by the Tories in the last parliament. Why should members of the public have to pay more taxes or higher fares in order to subsidise ASLEF members who are already overpaid . Doctors are more than adequately awarded during their lifetime. Maybe because it's only an extra zero" But it isn't an extra zero. That article (which was written 20 months ago) also states that SKS had received £740,309.51 in the same period. Mind you, the article also claims that someone gave Boris £1,000,000, but keeps referring to it as "six figures", so I'm not convinced that they can do their maths right. The article also makes it clear that these donations are not towards personal funds, so it's really not much of a comparison with the current story.

It is no different to that you claim Johnson was up to. The amount of money is irrelevant. It’s the principle. "You righteous righties do make me laugh. The only time the majority of you went quiet was as election day drew near. Slam any MP for whatever you want, in whatever party. They all should be transparent about gifts (material/financial) to themselves personally or to their status. They should be minimal in their expenses to do with their work (or perhaps have it capped - for example heating their MP home, they'd have to pay for heating anyway; and wtf is an MP home? If it's like no. 10 and not an excuse to have two homes, ie belongs to the constituency, fine. Personally they should stay in a Premier inn like Joe public ). Btw my bias is that I cannot stand the tories more than I like Labour. Most MPs are in it for themselves, whether it's for the fame/infamy, power, money, status... I just hope they are less corrupt, self-serving, anti-us-minions/great unwashed, than the last twats." Great Start, and just 11 weeks in . . . Again: For the What-About-ers: _____________________________________ ****Politics latest: Conflict of interest fears as Sir Keir Starmer accepts thousands in gifts Sky News's Westminster Accounts project has revealed Sir Keir Starmer has been gifted more freebies and hospitality than any other MP since 2019, sparking some concern within his own government.**** _____________________________________ £107,145 in Gifts Precisely (or maybe not, co's he's yet to declare more) Read the above PROPERLY! 1. It's not happening in the past, it's happening today, right now. And he's telling the country there is going to be painful cuts. But just like his Labour forebears it's a classic case of: ............... 'I'm All Right Jack!' 2. It's a sh*t argument to say 'well he did it Miss, so I'm going to too'. 3. He came to this as the 'Clean up Politics' Guy, remember? 4. If he wants to go watch football, he should pay for his own ticket - The Prime Ministerial Security Team go at the Tax Payers Expense anyway to any public event, so that's a crap argument in his defence. An MP should live in their constituency. That should be their primary/family home (only exception being PM with No.10 and Chancellor with No.11). No expenses for maintaining their family home as would do anyway. 2. In Westminster the Govt should have several secure catered apartment blocks with an apartment assigned to each constituency. Costs to maintain/heat etc picked up by tax payer. No need or allowance for a second home or ability to flip homes. 3. MP and Minister salaries should be higher and come with a very high minimum threshold of govt/constituent business hours required to fulfil. Less time for second jobs or, preferably, no second jobs allowed (argument there might be maintaining professional qualifications etc for solicitors or doctors etc). 4. MPs should be required to have lived in their constituency for previous 3 years continuous. To stop big beasts being parachuted into safe seats. " .Why would an MP meed to live in the constituency.? Life has moved on and we can easily communicate with any MP in any location. Why should an MP not have a second home , the cost to the taxpayer is immaterial . Having second jobs keeps MPs in contact with the real world. Probably the fact that they can do two jobs indicates how succcessfull , organised and efficient they are

Just because the Tories did it, doesn’t make it ok to copy! The morals of 99% of politicians is in the gutter." Should we not wait for the cronyism to occur. When Alli is appointed to a government position that he is not qualified for, then have a go. Until then, it's hot air.

"https://news.sky.com/story/sir-keir-starmer-declares-gifts-and-freebies-totalling-more-than-100-000-the-highest-of-any-mp-13217287 *********Exclusive Sir Keir Starmer declares gifts and freebies totalling more than £100,000 - the highest of any MP Sky News' Westminster Accounts project reveals the prime minister has declared more gifts and freebies than any other MP, with his total in gifts, benefits, and hospitality topping £100,000 since December 2019********** SkyNews 20 grand a year, is that excessive? Better that than wallpaper gate why is it better? Neither is good and the principle is the same. To try to say “oh well, they did it so why cannot we” is a pathetic attempt to deflect the issue. Sir Keith came in saying he was going to clean up politics, he has been found out to be a total hypocrite. Pathetic? Really? Try asking for my rationale! It's better because it's not at tax payers expense. Actually there's still controversy about who paid what for the 200+ grand flat refurbished. The Guardian Jan 2022 For a second time, Boris Johnson has been cleared of breaching the ministerial code over concerns about how he funded renovations to his Downing Street flat – though he faced opprobrium from his ethics adviser. The saga has lasted two years and spawned several investigations, most of which have now concluded. This ‘whataboutery’ is a massive deflection. I have no doubt that Johnson did some very dodgy stuff whilst PM. He paid the price for it. This now has nothing to do with him and everything to do with Sir Squeky clean Keith Stalin. The man who came in to ‘clean up politics’. Whatever your political persuasion is, it’s really not a good look. I'd rather MPs be condemned for what they claim as excessive expenses than the gifts they receive. In other words what we the tax payers fund. Bojo tried to claim for the refurb, but the annual allowance is 30 grand (which is far too high, it should be per term in office, ie every 4-5 years). I don't even care bojo got a million but one wonders if he had to do something for it. " Your last sentence is the whole point, it’s what is expected of these politicians in return that is the problem. I would far rather there was system for funding legitimate needs and expenses of all politicians, rigorously policed and fully accountable, than leave it to a system of ‘who can bung the most cash and freebies’, that’s just a wide open door for corruptive practises to proliferate.

"Have posted my views in expenses and MP perks many times, the system needs to change so that the opportunities to use the system are gone to stop all this distracting noise. 1. To stop big beasts being parachuted into safe seats. .Why would an MP meed to live in the constituency.? Life has moved on and we can easily communicate with any MP in any location. Why should an MP not have a second home , the cost to the taxpayer is immaterial . Having second jobs keeps MPs in contact with the real world. Probably the fact that they can do two jobs indicates how succcessfull , organised and efficient they are An MP can have multiple homes. It's the expenses they claim that comes into question. An MP should do miminum auditable monthly hours for their salary. Subsequent employment should not be in conflict. I thought by now we all knew Pat? Must say I am pleasantly surprised that he has moved from a unquestioning partisan support of the Tories to a broader support of MPs. Refreshing 🎉" I don't know all his user names

"As long as all the freebies are legal, fill your boots. The only real problem I have with thousands and thousands of pounds worth of freebies is I hardly get any. As long as he declares and its legal, good luck to him. I love freebies, can't get enough of them. I don’t think anyone is suggesting that they are illegal. I do it on a daily basis and would guess most people do the same or at least wish they could do the same if they had the opportunity. How would you feel if your MP was caught spending time out of his working day on a swingers site. Not implying that any of you good people are at work when posting. This… I am not going to defend everything on the list.. but so of the list is a bit petty For example… 4 days after becoming leader, he went to the euro 2020 final in Berlin between England and Spain Now I don’t care if it had been a Tory or labour prime minister… I would have expected him to be there representing the country! But the tickets, hospitality for being the leader.. and the travel there and back is all counted as “gifts” P.s that accounts for 5k on the list

" Latest: *********Deep frustration among Labour MPs Today, Mr Reynolds’ excuse was that the prime minister works incredibly hard and deserves a "wider life experience" rather than simply working every second of the day. But with allegations of a conflict of interest casting an ugly shadow over the PM's appetite for free tickets to football matches while his government is considering implementing a football regulator (something that No 10 categorically denies) - this story looks set to rumble on into Labour conference. Labour backbenchers tell me they are deeply frustrated with the way this story has been handled by Sir Keir's top team. One even accused Starmer of being an "ivory tower leader", explaining the rhetoric of tough decisions on the economy - such as cutting winter fuel allowance for millions of pensioners - was jarring with the image of a PM enjoying over £100,000 worth of gifts since December 2019. 'Holier-than-thou' election strategy looking unwise During the election campaign, Sir Keir branded himself as a man of the people while attacking Rishi Sunak for being "out of touch" with ordinary people. Now he is beginning to learn that branding yourself as holier-than-thou may not have been the genius political strategy it appeared to be three months ago.***** SkyNews." That stance of being a man of the people sounds great during an election but makes any oversights (as they prefer to call them) look even worse when caught out. It's as though they think they are still in opposition and not getting the level of scrutiny the government get. They need to realise that they are in government now and must accept lots of scrutiny. Anyway, another fun fact from a guest on politics live this week: SKS has had more freebies, not just of any other Labour leader but of all Labour leaders combined going back to 1997. Not seen that elsewhere but given what has recently been discovered, it would not surprise me.

Out in the real world if there was any evidence of corruption an individual would face prosecution. A bit different to Kier Starmer who was too cowardly to negotiate with the unions. He has just surrendered to both junior doctors demands and those of the rail unions. Nevertheless I'll take on board your suggestion. majority of 400? Do you use the same accountant as Sir Keith? Liebour have a majority of 174. That can soon change and was demonstrated by the Tories in the last parliament. "Amazing how the labour or liberals who supported labour feel it's ok to justify SKS but when it's the Tories it's a no go. Why can't people just be honest and admit it's not acceptable whoever you are? In this case it's hypocritical champagne Communists but it's just as easy to see it the other way" The UK fashion industry is worth £62bn a year. I want our Prime Minister and his wife to look good and promote British success everywhere they go. The UK sports industry is worth £36bn a year. The PM is a football activist. That can only be good for the sport and the UK. Yes politicians need to decide whether gifts should be banned, and so far they haven't done so, but the big picture is the UK benefits when our politicians promote our successes.

It sounds like as long as it is declared it is fine to do it.....I think it should all be changed to that they are not allowed to accept donations at all.
