During World War I, two British soldiers -- Lance Cpl. Schofield and Lance Cpl. Blake -- receive seemingly impossible orders. In a race against time, they must cross over into enemy territory to deliver a message that could potentially save 1,600 of their fellow comrades -- including Blake's own brother.

Does it matter if it is (even though it's clearly not totally fictional as I stated above)? Just like most other films and dramas - it doesn't have to be completely factual to be enjoyable, moving and indeed thought provoking - which 1917 very much is and more besides.

No, it's great. Just the thread is people praising it.

Well that or asking if it's real, but yes, it's good.

I'm sarcastic

Great acting, great actors but its shot as if it is one long scene. Like there are no cut scenes and the detail and effort put in to doing so is outstanding.

Watch it

Well that or asking if it's real, but yes, it's good.

I'm sarcastic

Great acting, great actors but its shot as if it is one long scene. Like there are no cut scenes and the detail and effort put in to doing so is outstanding.

Watch it"

To be honest it is pretty much bob on.

The plot isn't the greatest, but it's a story of a journey and it's about the detail into creating that world well enough to compensate for the lack of action, as such.

If you want a good plot try Knives Out. Cracking who done it

Yeah, I'd agree with some of this too. It features a unique way of filming the protagonists, following them through the various sections of their journey hardly ever cutting away. The perceived danger didn't really add up to much, the Germans appear to be terrible shots!. The plot was interesting, but I can't really see myself watching it multiple times like I have with say Dunkirk. Definitely worth a watch once though for the way it was filmed, it's tense!

I've also watched Knives Out. An above average film I guess, amusing in places and good cast, but I was never really convinced by Daniel Craig's dodgy southern american accent.

It’s s fantastic film about how two guys are given orders to stop 1600 men attack a retreating German line. However the Germans have moved intentionally to trap the British, do they have to stop them getting slaughtered.

One of the soldiers has a brother amongst the battalions they need to stop.

They have to cross no mans land and much adversity to even stand any chance of success.

Truly an amazing awe inspiring film..

"Is it a true story ?

Apparently the story is something that sam mendes's (the director of the film) grandfather who was part of the war, used to tell him about when he was a youngster.

It's actually a story woven out of a number of separate tales his Grandad used to relate about his time during WWI - so it's fictional but based on those events

Basically built on bull then

Does it matter if it is (even though it's clearly not totally fictional as I stated above)? Just like most other films and dramas - it doesn't have to be completely factual to be enjoyable, moving and indeed thought provoking - which 1917 very much is and more besides."

Well if it's that good it should have won at the awards
