Doctor who

I'm soo sorry! Really I am!

What's going on with the doctor? I had such high hopes for a female doctor and I'm sorry but Jodie Whittaker your doctor is just a really bad, severely flat impersonation of mat Smith's. I can no longer watch after your poorly written first series and now the new years episode was frankly rubbish we turned off half way through due to boredom, with such poor story lines, companions who are dull as dish water and nothing to fire the imagination.

Till the next incarnation, let's please have a reboot to the David Tennant / mat smith era where doctor who was great! Full of interest, twist n turns and a doctor who that kept you in suspense.

I gave up after the first few episodes of the last season - the writing was embarrassingly bad and patronising to the kids in the audience, let alone the adults. I've no issue with Whittaker but she's been very badly served by the writing.

I'm not keen, but at least this series looks to be less aimed at children than the last.

Tonight's episode started slow but was a cracker. I'm not sure why people get wound up we all know the cycle, everyone slagged off Matt Smith until he went, same with Capaldi who has now been redeemed.

Just dont watch it if you think its shit

Capaldi was great, just the stories became lame and was never blessed with many good ones, Jodies era is just poor all round unfortunately and not showing any real promise of redemption.

In my opinion, Moffatt ruined Doctor Who. It started at the end of the Tennant era basically, and then just got worse!

He writes good episodes, but then he tries to write and interweave the whole series, and it just ends up being ridiculous...

But, 9 and 10 are my first Doctors, so I'm probably partial to the new good old days

Avid fan for a long time, but I stopped watching when they bought in a female doctor. PC gone too far, for me the doctor will always be a man. No need to have a woman playing the role.

I've been unable to connect with the authority that The Doctor can give off from her. I will admit I have not watched entire season to fully comment.

Ignoring the old guard as they were certainly a different era.

Tennant and Smith were amazing at playing an old soul within a young person's body. They were fun and comedic, had a curiosity about them but they also played the other side of the doctor extremely well. The internal turmoil and rage beneath the surface along with the commanding authority he should be giving off.

She can easily pull off the comedic side of things, she has a natural bubbly nature which works well in that side of the role. She really can not even begin to compete with the fierce side of the doctor.

With that said, it's not all down to her. The writing and the direction it is going in is just... Not right.

Tennant's run was the pinnacle. It had everything. Smith's still great but you could sense a slight shift toward a younger audience at times. I didn't watch Capaldi - he would always be Sid's dad from season 1 skins to me and it felt strange .

Whittaker's run for me does not have the same type of vibe it once had. It seems a little too childish in what is being put across. Note I use childish for lack of a better word.

I don't mind that the doctor is a woman (well I do but that is due to changing what is established more than a woman in the lead). I just don't feel the doctor is being correctly portrayed. Through writing and acting.

She's a good actress, ill-served by poor scripts and carrying three loads of entirely unnecessary dead weight.

Get woke. Go broke.

It's an oversimplification but there's always truth in it when the "wokeness" (not a bad thing in itself) is rammed down your throat.

It buggered up a large part of S.2 of ST-Discovery.

And yet, Seth McFarlane carries it off with ease in his scripts for The Orville.

I like Jodie Whittaker, I think its nice to have a doctor that I can lech over. They have suffered bad writing for a long time to the point that I actually kind of miss the campness of Russel T Davies. Moffat wrote some excellent stand alone but just failed when he took the tiller.

Really can't get into it anymore.

For me, the rot started with Capaldi, but I put it more down to the show producers than him - things went the same way with Sherlock, what began brilliantly just lost it's way.

Matt Smith was a brilliant Doctor, once he'd found his feet, and I'd probably rank him as the best, if we hadn't had the spectacular David Tennant - Oh yes!!

"Yes, it is definitely getting better "

After tonight's episode? Really?

It's a pale shadow of the entertainment it used to be. She's fine. It's the hangers on and the poor scripts she doesn't need.

Sadly, it's going to limp on like this for at least one more season, perhaps two - because any criticism of its mediocrity will be dismissed as an attack on its diversity.

The writers know that, so they really aren't putting the effort in - and it shows.

They’re trying overly hard to be woke these days, nowt wrong with being diverse of course and we should all embrace it, but since Chibnall became show runner it’s almost shoe-horned in with big neon-flashing signs and so ‘in yer face’ that it starts to detract from the rest of the story telling.

Doctor Who has always been ahead of the game and inclusive and diverse, so it’s nothing new in that respect, but it’s literally trying TOO hard to be super-woke now, imho (but hey, no doubt I’m just a bigot)

Matt Smith was the last good one. I gave up during capaldi time, the stories were bad, confusing for most of the episode then wrapped up in 5 mins at the end. And Clara, found her so annoying.

Gave the new regime a chance especially after loving broadchurch, but it was dire. So gave up mid way through the first series. Whittaker was annoying, random shouting, the acting from the companions was like being in the timber aisle at B&Q. Needs an extended break.

Chibnall and Co didn't get the memo when taking over Who.

There's no love, no belief in what they're writing. Enid Blyton stories have more depth and character development. They're simply writing to try and push modern day views onto the viewers. Yes, we get it. People are gay, and now feel a lot safer expressing themselves and letting the world know. And good on them! But this doesn't mean we need to sacrifice an program and its history simply to get this point across. Same reasons why James Bond shouldn't be a woman.

The first 2 episodes of this season were good, but only due in part to the return of the Master (acted brilliantly may I add). The story itself was tosh. As has been every other one this season. Last night's was just.... Gash. Even the week before with the Silly Rhino Judoon people.

"Oh, we can't come up with a decent story, so let's just introduce an entire new previously unseen version of the Dr which will shit all over the History and Canon of Dr Who... Because Reasons".

There's too many people, too little of the Dr being the Dr (which is a shame as I really think given better material, Jodie could be a brilliant Dr) and I really honestly don't give one for the companions. They can't act, and they bring nothing to the mediocre stories. And to try and do all this in the space of 50 mins on a Sunday night... Disaster. Let's not forget, Classic Serials were usually 4 episodes for a story, spread out across a couple of weeks.

Shame that Chibnall probably isn't a member of Fab and won't see what people have written here. Because God knows he's been ignoring the fan base on every single other medium in the known universe!

" ... and what was the random appearance of captain jack about?"

It was a ridiculously transparent attempt to reverse a slide in viewing figures and divert criticism.

It didn't work. Never seen Barrowman that OTT/Hammy in all his appearances and it was cringeworthy stuff.

I don't really like the slogan but 'Get Woke Go Broke' does, sadly, apply in Dr Who's case.

It's not, it is a family show. A lot of what goes on... Used to go on, was quite complex for kids to understand, hell a large number of adults would struggle to grasp what would be going on. There are se seriously powerful and emotional moments that have happened within it, some far, more mature and relatable to adults to a lot of shows aimed at solely adults.

There is a huge difference between kids programme and a show aimed at the family.

I totally agree with you, i lived for Dr Who, David Tennant being my favourite. I love the chsracters back then too. Ive sadly stopped watching the new Doctor, i cant dont with her or the cast and episides. Shes also always spoutjng off about feminism and to me its killing the show. I too had hi hopes.
