Once youve learnt how to write at school does is change much as life goes on??

On a day to day basis i dont write much as everything is typed out on a laptop or mobile phone. is legible handwriting important and does it tell you anything about a person?

I think of some random stuff at times lol

I always wrote neatly at school but after writing in capitals for all my adult life (at work everything that was written down had to be legible to everyone else) i can no longer write proper joined up writing without it looking like it was written by a doctor on a bus.

Who does it have to be legible for?

When handwriting was the only medium, then of course it was vital it was legible. Now? Go with what works...

Having spent a year practicing capital letter writing in a drawing office, I write faster and clearer in uppercase.

If it is important I will take the time to produce a smooth handwriting...

My writing is shocking, despite my dada and brother being left handed my school forced me to write with my right hand. I can't even hold a pen properly in my right hand so you can guess the result.

At work we get more and more statements from the police and ambulance sent through hand written as hand written are quicker and cheaper, and quite often have to ring up to clarify them.

I was just thinking this the other day .. in school my handwriting was lovely and neat. It had to be back then !!! But now I think I have forgotten how to write ... when I write a card or anything like that my writing resembles my pre handwriting years - I write like a 5 year old !!!!!

All I can is now ... I love moonpig

They forced you to write with your right hand ??

In ye olden times when I was at school we were taught handwriting as a subject.

For instance the lower case letter 't' was to be shorter than the letter 'l' but taller than the letter 'e'

It was bad enough that some couldn't read let alone write, and once they did write it was stifled. No left handed writers for instance.

I still love to write longhand, perhaps because of those lessons I have beautiful hand-writing and get complimented on it.

Yes it wasn't from what I understand that uncommon.

Mine used to be nice, but having broken my hand so many times over the years it has become very messy. Hurts a lot when I have to write for any sustained period.

I'm lucky, I have to write every day in my job and my handwriting is still really good (everyone tells me, so ner ner)

If I didn't use it, I'd probably get really lazy and it would be awful.

I have always held writing implements between index and middle finger... I was regularly told off at school...

I only hold a pencil between thumb and index for occasional technical drawings...

The first appraisal I had 3 months after I started my new job, all was well except for my hand-writing.

The bosses were worried that if I was not about when the regulators/customers came to audit us, they would not be able to read what I had written on the batch documentations to justify release of the batches.

So they asked me to improve my handwriting.

during school my handwriting was never consistant. some times it would be exsactly like my mums which is big and rounded, but other days my writing would be small and slanted to the left.

also i can never write with a page straight, the paper has to be turned to the left.. its odd.

luckily i do actually like the style ive settled on as an adult. Used to write a lot of care plans and various other paperwork for work, but not written much since giving up work 2 years ago. Only thought about it as im starting to write to a friend over sea's.

thats how my granddad writes.. looks funny to me.

i remember when i was first learning using triangular shapped crayons/pencils and the additional help of a rubber weight stuck to the end of the pencil to help aid control

My handwriting used to be terrible but I went and did a course to improve. Before my accident I used a fountain pen more so than a ball point. Think most people like to receive a well written letter as it shows someone as taken the time to sit down pull out paper, pen and write. Itso easy to text or email that letter writing seems to time consuming for most

used to love using fountain pens.. when i first started out id get the cheap 99p pen and 5 blue cartridges from Woolworths. They'd be messy and would often leave ink on my index finger from when i used to grip the pen too hard

Now that made me smile remembering those pens. A good fountain pen is a joy to use and no staining of fingers either

My grandad had his hand tied behind his back because he picked up his pencil with his left hand on his first day of school.

My handwriting is appalling, despite being taught cursive at school, and them only allowing us to write it with fountain pens.

I was forced to do cursive writing at school and used to get my knucles banged if i didnt do it. It never came natural to me. That was at primary school and ive never done joined up writing since. I always tilt the paper to write and never write on the bottome line. My dad cant write at all apart from his name

I still use a fountain pen to write with. It makes my handwriting far less lazy than using a ballpoint.

I also love writing with pencils, but I think that harks back to my architectural drawing days.

Yes they do..

At our daughter's school they get a pen license and handwriting pen once their handwriting is considered to be neat enough.
