"This morning I saw a Peugeot 205 GT in mint condition in red racing trim....awesome looking little car even 30+ years on. Anyone else admire great 80's vintage wheels or are proud owners of one? " Oh they are awesome little cars.. don't ask me to choose just one though. Personally have a soft spot for the metros but I don't think there are any of the hot hatches from that era I don't like. Saw a mint Renault 5 turbo not so long back and a proper old quattro. Also love the Alfas of the 80s... A fast Ford fan too so of course the 80s are heaven Oh proper car porn thread

"In it’s time, the Sierra Sapphire Cosworth was a beast. In comparison with the plastic high-performance cars of today, perhaps it still is. " 3 Door Sierra Cosworths are now worth a pretty penny. Good ones are changing hands for £40K plus. A RS500 Cosworth recently sold at auction for around £105,000 Sapphire Cosworths start at around £15,000, but for a good one you're looking at paying at least £20K How about a Series 1 Escort RS Turbo (Mk3 Escort) Well, that'll be £40K plus then

It may have been face lifted but the mark 3 was front wheel drive and totally different to the mark 2. The mark four was a “rounded off” version of the mark three

"Used to drive a Peugeot 405 MI16, awesome car. Also ex had a SAAB 9000 and I very much coveted the Peugeot 205 1.9GTi or the 309GTi, the Renault 5 GT Turbo or the Vauxhall Calibra. " I had a serious crush on the 405MI16 especially black with black leather trim. I drove a Renault 5 GT turbo once. The kick in the back when the boost came in was phenomenal

"Escorts seem to still be popular, but I dont know if they are 30 years old." They are still very popular, bloody expensive now though. But with every panel being reproduced now for the Mk1s and Mk2s its easy to fix up even the most rotten examples. The 80's was when they switched over to the front wheel drive Mk3.

"A guy who I work with has a series 1 RST that he's had for about 20 years. He's in the (long) process of restoring it and managed to get a stack of original spares before they went out of manufacture, dashboard, wings, all sorts. The spares alone are worth a kings ransom. I've tried to get him to sell it to me a few times but I have a feeling I'll have to pry the keys from his cold dead hands lol, and I don't bloody blame him! " He did well to find and store the spares, some bits are virtually impossible to buy now. Luckily with 3D printing getting popular, those parts are starting to be reproduced.

I think he even has the little black trim pieces that go between the front wings and the scuttle panel
