This morning I saw a Peugeot 205 GT in mint condition in red racing trim....awesome looking little car even 30+ years on.

Anyone else admire great 80's vintage wheels or are proud owners of one?

Oh they are awesome little cars.. don't ask me to choose just one though. Personally have a soft spot for the metros but I don't think there are any of the hot hatches from that era I don't like.

Saw a mint Renault 5 turbo not so long back and a proper old quattro. Also love the Alfas of the 80s...

A fast Ford fan too so of course the 80s are heaven

Oh they are awesome little cars.. don't ask me to choose just one though. Personally have a soft spot for the metros but I don't think there are any of the hot hatches from that era I don't like.

3 Door Sierra Cosworths are now worth a pretty penny. Good ones are changing hands for £40K plus.

A RS500 Cosworth recently sold at auction for around £105,000

Sapphire Cosworths start at around £15,000, but for a good one you're looking at paying at least £20K

Guy I work with owns a 1987 ford fiesta XR2 with 2nd manufacture pepperpot alloys (The slightly rounded but better looking and more appreciative cuts on the holes).

Original panels and interiors and on occasion it makes an appearance in the workplace car park when it gets out to give it some air.

Our younger generation we have working there spend a LOT of time staring at it and getting unnecessarily (and quite creepily) aroused over it.

My best friend bought a lovely blue 2CV at the end of the 80s when she passed her test.

I always think of the dicks blasting along the seafront in their bright orange capris though. And vinyl roofs, they were pretty big back then.

Also feeling nostalgic, at the very very beginning of the 80s my uncle had a delorean. I remember him picking me up to take me to a birthday party and being really embarrassed when everyone came outside to look.

I had a 79 Capri and it was NOT front wheel drive.

And there was no Mk4

Unless you're referring to the Australian capri - which was Mazda based.

A guy who I work with has a series 1 RST that he's had for about 20 years. He's in the (long) process of restoring it and managed to get a stack of original spares before they went out of manufacture, dashboard, wings, all sorts. The spares alone are worth a kings ransom. I've tried to get him to sell it to me a few times but I have a feeling I'll have to pry the keys from his cold dead hands lol, and I don't bloody blame him!

They are still very popular, bloody expensive now though. But with every panel being reproduced now for the Mk1s and Mk2s its easy to fix up even the most rotten examples. The 80's was when they switched over to the front wheel drive Mk3.

"A guy who I work with has a series 1 RST that he's had for about 20 years. He's in the (long) process of restoring it and managed to get a stack of original spares before they went out of manufacture, dashboard, wings, all sorts. The spares alone are worth a kings ransom. I've tried to get him to sell it to me a few times but I have a feeling I'll have to pry the keys from his cold dead hands lol, and I don't bloody blame him! "

He did well to find and store the spares, some bits are virtually impossible to buy now. Luckily with 3D printing getting popular, those parts are starting to be reproduced.

Exactly. I think he even has the little black trim pieces that go between the front wings and the scuttle panel

Blimey, its those random little plastic bits on a car that can make or break a restoration. Towing eye covers seems to be the biggest headache.

The last of the Capris was the 280... also known as 'Brooklands' but in truth that was just the colour

The Tickford Capri was v. Nice

and that was an Aston Martin project I believe, the creme de la creme .

As it happens... over time we probably had over a dozen capris that we, bought, ran, restored etc. Some just cut up and used for spares

and none of which we've got anymore ?? gutting considering the asking price of them now though!

Claim to fame being though is that pictures of one that we restored, took to Blackpool for a capri run and thought nothing of but the images have since been used by the Viz, Cole of groups on Facebook use it as cover image and for ages it was main pic on wikipedia and first off in Google as well

Bizzarely i loved the fiat 131 supermirafiori too.

I think your the only person I've ever known to like these. I had one in the early 80's and loved that car. Handled like an MKII Escort but had that glorious Fiat twin cam engine. Before that I had a 124 Sport Coupe which sadly rusted to death

It was facelifted in 78 and though never officially designated Mk3, that's what it became known as until it was killed off in 87

Bollocks. It may have been face lifted but the mark 3 was front wheel drive and totally different to the mark 2. The mark four was a “rounded off” version of the mark three "

indeed it was but the merc wasn't slow by no means with some tweaks by rude mercs in Essex comfier than the ford thou wish still had it be worth a fortune now mind you so is a decent cossie sierra lol
