I'll be arguing soon with a roll of sellotape so if no one hears from me for a few hours come find me as I'll probably be tangled up in a mass of the damn stuff

Didnt think anyone could wrap more badly than me. When wrapped sometimes a patch is needed to cover over the bit that didnt get covered first time!!

I only send cards to a couple of elderly relatives. The ones online get a donation to charity in my name and either a Facebook post or a text/email.

I think it's perfectly acceptable if it's a choice, not because you forgot!

Wrapping is an art form that require patience and a steady hand. I have neither. Hats off to everyone that can manage it without it looking like the work of a 3 year old

I think it's got a little easier since they put a grid on the white side of the paper, helps cut in a straight line!

I enjoy wrapping (weird I know) and am a dab hand at it. Think I might need to buy some more tape though.

I fold the last edge over so that it has a straight edge.

I love the grid though. Very useful when wrapping lots of presents all the same size. Cut lots of paper up ready then get wrapping.

Yeah, I'd probably get away with my crappy wrapping if I were a bloke. Apparently my vaginal means I should wrap like it's for a magazine. (snark not aimed at you, just in general)

The male half here OP: I can wrap gifts for England!

Don't know why people make such a fuss about it

The big secrets are:

Proper place to do the wrapping: flat surface (table/desk). Floor at a push but watch out for the dog/cat taking a shortcut. On your knee/the bed/on the bus etc are just wrapping accidents waiting to happen.

Enough paper (trying to pull two edges together because the wrap is 2mm too short ain;t going to work)

Try and box/pack/pad everything so you get rectangular parcel shapes where possible

Sharp scissors

Proper use of sticky tape: initially use very short 30mm bits just to tack the edges together. That way the damn thing doesn't unpack itself while you get the main length of tape on it.

Label as you go, esp if you're using same/similar paper or risk great gran getting that "rabbit" you were sending your mate as a surprise.

As I usually wrap my gifts on Christmas Eve, the average life of the wrapping paper used is about 8 hours; I've always thought that this is such a waste.

Seriously thinking that this year, I should use old news papers; enviromental friendly.... and cheap
