My goal is to drop two dress sizes by summer. Does anyone have any good tips regarding an issue i have?

The issue: I work long hours and constantly on my feet, when i finish work my feet are sore and aching so i try to keep off them, but i nees to excersise to lose the weight... any tips on how to overcome this?

Thanks in advance... Sarah xx

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

I need to lose a stone and drop a dress size this year. No particular time limit although before summer would be nice. I plan on using my Rosemary Conley Amazing Inch Loss Book and go to the gym at least 3 times a day, but might need to moan if I'm not doing well.

Pilates! I enrolled for a class last year and lost several inches as well as found a couple of abs I never knew I had. And the bonus is you do most of it on your back.

You put on weight if you eat more calories than you burn off... so if you dont have time for any more physical exercise; change your diet!

Its not just inches i want to lose. I want to do excersise and improve my fitness. Plus it is a healthier way to lose weight than just cutting calories alone.

Over the past 12 months I Mr liddy have lost 6 and a half stone and have a stone to go and Mrs has lost 4 and has a stone to go, our advice sounds easy but if you've got bad habits its not, reduce portion size try and eat a balanced diet nothing extreme remember some carbs are our friends, exercise and our main tip is have treat now and then maybe once a month if that's a bun or a bacon sandwich or a kfc bucket, we found it just breaks up the cycle of boring salad and gives a bit of a boost to your commitment

My target is another 1 Stone!

I managed to lose just over 4 stone in 2011!

This was done, by simply eating less and exercising more!

No secret, even though everybody I know asks me that question!

Simple willpower and determination!

Good Luck to everyone in 2012!

Bread i totally agree with but rice potatoes and pasta i could live without lol

to date iv lost over 3 stone using slimming world and find the weekly meetings a god send, iv still got 8 stone to lose but with slimming world, zumbe and swimming im really enjoying it.

i have family members who didn't like the idea of weekly meetings and also couldn't afford them so i put the whole plan including food lists and recipes on to disc for them, if anyone wants a copy i can email the pdf files to you.

my top Tip would be to write down everything that passes your lips i keep a sheet next to the microwave. this works 2 ways it makes you conscious of what you eat and if you dont loose or loose a lot that week you can look back and see what you have done good or bad.

My tip? ... join a group with a friend, or make a friend there. You will need a push sometimes, we all do.

I joined Slimming World with Kate in January this year, mainly to support her because she asked me to.

Most people lose a few pounds quite easy in the first few weeks, but it can tail off, mainly because we fall back into our old ways.

If you've got a friend in the group, try and support each other, you can even compete with each other, you know, the one who loses the least weight, buys the after class coffee

Kate is now one of the group administrators now, she books the people in and takes the subs, so she's got another commitment to go.

Best of luck to everyone

1 - 2lb is the average of what you should be loosing a week. The first couple of months it will fall of you and then slow up. Some weeks ive gained for no reason and some ive lost 5lb and done the same both weeks. I find its better to work out your progress over a period of around 6 weeks(although still get weighed weekly) as women our body will flutuate up and down. After youve had your weight recorded for around 3 months you will start to notice when the natural flutuations occur. My hormones are all over the place cause im going through the change. Men dont realize how easy they have it

"Having just been diagnosed with diabetes, I need to lose weight now. No target...just eat sensibly, go walking and swimming...then see where I am come summer "

when i was first diagnosed with diabetes, the practice nurse pointed me in the direction of an exercise class for the 'less fit' held in a local leisure centre

nothing majorly strenuous, just like circuit training really and only once a week. i coupled it up with nightly walks of about 45-60 minutes and it worked wonders - the weight dropped off me

that was 2006, i was knocking 19 stone when i was diagnosed, and dropped to about 14st7.

see if they offer similar things in your area and give them a whirl.

oh and being diabetic only needs to be 'scary' if you push it with your lifestyle.

if you eat and drink more healthily, with treats but not to excess, your body will find it's balance and manging it just becomes second nature x

Back to special K in the mornings.

Salad or jacket potato for lunch

Low fat, very few carbs for dinner..... before 7pm

I've filled the fridge and the cupboards with extra low fat, veg, meats, brown rice, brown pasta etc....

2 dress sizes to lose before the first Pussy Posse party and I'll be happy.

I start tomorrow cus I find it easier whilst at work.

Tomorrow for me as I find it easier when not sitting at home. My aim is to fit into a primark size 18 the reason I say that is because thier sizes come up small.

My diet will consist of weight watchers recipes and trying to fit in excersice to my busy world. I am also cutting out my Starbucks addiction... I don't need a starbucks everyday!! I am also taking lunch with me to work as I am also trying to save money and loose weight.

I am also going to keep a diary to note down how I feel.... x

i am adamant this will be the year for me. I want to shift about half my weight. healthy eating and more exercise. going to see how long it will take me to walk to work and back and go from there i think. also walking the dog instead of the kids.

i agree some men do not understand how hard it can be. Ben is the same. he thinks i could do it easily if i really wanted to. if only it was that easy.

I love this thread will be great to be able to support each other

Well I have decided to ditch weightwatchers and have joined rosemary conley as its more inline with what my doctors advice was.

I have also got kickboxing class I am starting.. Do zumba both at my class and seperate and am doing swimming every day

I am also in training as from now for 5 charity runs over the year with my daughter.. first one in April. I did race for life last year after losing 3stone and did the 5k in just over 40mins... so this year I am looking to do the 10k

I walk/jog most mornings for 30mins and have plan being written up for me.

2012 is the year I drop the last 3 dress sizes and to be honest I am hoping to drop one by Valentines.. and I think to be honest I have a good chance of doing it.

Then I can be all fit and slim for my holiday of a lifetime with my Master at the end of the year..and I so cant wait.

I am getting rosemary conley paid for by my GP..

CHeck with yours as not all areas do it.. but they are linked to the nhs as there diets are so successful.

So it maybe worth you finding out for those that want to..

But if I was paying its free membership at present.. with a free pack.. and its £21 a month for one session a week... or £26 for unlimited sessions.. bare in mind every session comes with a 45 min exercise class.

the one I am using is zumba class there are other types.

For those craving crap and alcohol:

Weight Watchers do a line of 1/4 bottles of wine

Go for the Baked Crisps or the low fat crisps. I love the Velvet Soya ones in sweet chilli (I never miss Walkers bacon crisps with those in the house)

Chocolate...... buy a box and have 1 (yes, just 1) per night to satisfy the sweet tooth craving.

Muller Rice pots are only 1-- calories and I find that having one of those after my dinner always stops the sweet craving. And you can get apple and vanilla custard rice. yummy

If you must have pasta and rice, change it for the brown. Takes a little bit of getting used to but far nicer.

Sugar..... this is my downfall. Either use the 1/2 stuff in a dark blue packet or Fruit Sugar which is lower in calories and sweeter so you don't need so much.

Cake. Poundland have normally got the Weight Watchers cake slices in and at about 80 calories they are perfect for a cake craving.

Cheese. Lo Lo and Philadelphia extra Light doesn't taste any different to the full fat stuff.

target for this year is to loose 3 stone 3lbs by august, went to SW wed and had lost 4lbs over christmas which was a shocker but then i guess illness played its part there

i have let the exercise element slide so have got to get butt back into gear on that one so looking for a zumba class close by and also hope to treat myself to a wii and get something like just dance to do most days

good luck everyone bear with it as you'll be surprised just how many of the changes your are now making will soon become your preferences, like i now could never imagine not having skimmed milk now yet when i started i thought it was awful but now its my genuine preference and i have many more just like that its quite freaky how my tastes have actually become more healthier

Start with the cabbage soup diet, we tried it last year, not the nicest diet but we lost some pounds but most of all it reduced the size of out tummy's we were then able to eat less which is what you need to do. x x x Happy dieting all.I also gave up bread 18months ago lost 2 & 1/2 stone

One other tip go shopping for food on a full belly never when hungry and only take cash for what you need (not what you want)

"i still havent set my target ive been doing mini targets every two stone. when ive lost 9 stone will set target good luck all with your first week"

My first week got delayed due to the gym being packed, work being stressful, windy conditions, xmas sales, recession, third world debt ..... hold on while I turn the page in my book of excuses.

Diamond is true inspiration for us all. I start my regime tomorrow. Wanted to give my body a full 7 days of alcohol, and then up my intake of water before I started any regime.

Good luck to all and well done to everyone who have already started their diets.

At this rate, by the sounds of it, the pussy posse party will be full of skinny people.

"My goal is to drop two dress sizes by summer. Does anyone have any good tips regarding an issue i have?

The issue: I work long hours and constantly on my feet, when i finish work my feet are sore and aching so i try to keep off them, but i nees to excersise to lose the weight... any tips on how to overcome this?

Thanks in advance... Sarah xx

You put on weight if you eat more calories than you burn off... so if you dont have time for any more physical exercise; change your diet!"

Got to agree with his answer. If your on your feet all day I'm guessing your doing enough physical activity already, unless your just on your feet standing still

Could you be more specific about what you mean by being on your feet all day? If you are doing a lot of walking then you should be burning quite a few calories already which would suggest that you need to change your diet. Maybe you eat a lot of snacks or drink a lot of fizzy pop?

It's a missconception that you need to go on a running machine and run fast to burn fat. If you do a short sharp burst of fitness it only burns the energy that's readily available in your system, carbs and sugars. You want to be targeting your stored energy, ie. fat, which is done by going at a steady pace for a longer duration (over 40 mins to be into max fat burning zone) which actually makes a long walk better than a short run at burning fat

If you're on your feet walking all day then I would think you wouldn't have a problem with the physical side which is why I'd say you need to address your diet

Another miss conception that people may have is that vodka doesn't have any calories WRONG. It's got more calories than a glass of wine. There's 222 calories in 100ml of vodka/gin! That's without your mixer!

For those drinking diet because they think it has hardly any callories well read on

Diet Coke produces a sharp spike in insulin, which blocks the breakdown of fat. Secondly, aspartame interferes with the bodies feelings of satiety by disrupting the chemical processes that use the mouth to calculate how much you've consumed. Basically, Diet Coke makes you keep eating longer than you would have without it.

Hope this helps

I started SW before christmas and was just shy of 2 stone as we approached christmas. Didn't go to class for 2 weeks, used excuses, the weather etc but went back last night to be surprised I lost 3lbs and I am now over my 2stone .... I know I didnt go mad over the holidays, walked as much as I could and had some sexercise at chams (lol) but I wasnt excpecting a loss so I am super happy and extra motivated now

Plan for this year is 1 stone by Paddys Day, 1.5 stone by birthday in July and another 1.5 stone by Christmas...fingers crossed

I have to break down the amount I want to loose into chunks with something fun/celebration to work towards - fingers crossed this year I stay motivated as I am acually enjoying the exercise and healthy eating this time.

Good luck to everyone starting, re starting or continuing with a diet/healthy eating plan. Think of the added fun and extra energy you'll have xx

Sorry to keep hi jacking. I would advise anyone that's serious about losing weight and going to the gym to buy a heartrate monitor. Not essential but a very good bit of kit and everyone I know who's used them swear by it.

Your fat burning zone is when your heart rate is at 60-70% so with the heart rate monitor it will tell you if you need to speed up or slow down You clearly need to work out what your max heart rate is but you can go online or speak to someone in the gym and they will help you with that (instructions come with the heart rate monitor too)

I've just restarted my account on Food Focus, which is an online diary that helps you log weight, exercise, and the food you eat. It's been said that people who log their food intake etc lose more weight and keep it off longer than people who don't. There are other diary sites - Sparks People has a good one with motivational blogs and forums, and Prevention has loads of exercise routines and podcasts to walk to etc.

My local council run gym run by vivacity are running a free open weekend 14 and 15 Jan anyone who wants to join it is only £6 a week I figure a price of a packet of cigs unlimited use of gym facilities, fitness classes and unlimited swimming if I wish to use the Regional fitness and swimming centre which is a bargain. Or people could look in to getting active cards can apply through local councils.

i didnt know the facts about diet blocking the breakdown of fat and i drink loads of it. time to change that.

suffering from headaches currently last day or so as getting used to changes. any ideas on beating those or do i just have to sit them out.

when i get a chocolate craving normally just have a low fat hot choc drink. thats sorts them out.

Glad it was of use to someone. People just look at the label and think ooo no calories, I can drink as much as I like with no worries. The labels on things like that are always missleading.

Take foods in the supermarket for example. They may say low in fat or 50% less fat etc. But usually that's only low in fat or 50% less fat than the usual which was extremely high in fat anyway. So the low in fat ones a lot of the time are still high in fat if that makes sense?

Bottom line. Don't get suckered in by the big bright labels. Look at the small print!

I posted info in another link but can't find it so i'll type again here. Hopefully it'll help.

Don't skip meals thinking that you're eating less so you'll lose weight! Wrong. You're body is an amazing machine. If you miss meals it starts to store more energy as fat, because it doesn't know when it's next going to get it! The other problem with missing meals is that you're more likely to snack because you're hungry.

Don't miss breakfast, it's key to kick starting you metabolism! Have some _ruit or something similar.

Drink plenty of water

Probably common knowledge but if it helps one person then it was worth my time

Its surprising what you can actually eat through slimming world its all about the free foods and not feeling hungry. If you feel hungry try having a glass of water instead as it maybe your thirsty. And try not snacking after 6pm at night. Eat like a king for breakfast, a queen for lunch and a pauper for dinner. ...

I eat like a pig full stop. Seriously although i dont count calories i know i dont have more than roughly 1500 a day. Its a circle, more weight you loose the more you naturally move about more. I suggest writing everything that passes your lips down, i still do this. If you get a chocolate craving brush your teeth or have an options drink. But the biggest most important factor is wanting to do it,

The picture of me at my worst is with my little girl on our first holiday. It was a horrible time in honesty as i was useless

Walking on the beach i was sinking and was so difficult to run after her. I wimped out of taking her swimming as i hated my body that much to strip down to even the swim skirt and tanki top. I wanted to sit down on the floor and meet the parkdean characters and join in the games, but i can barely cross my legs and suffer cramp terribly..

Just so many bad memories and i want it to completely change

Drink plenty of water. I lost 3 stones 18 months ago cutting out biscuits, ate more _ruit and drank more water. Managing to keep it off so far which is the hard part. Plenty of sex helps too. Look up sex positions to tone different parts. Nothing like sexercise! And it burns calories too!

"As requested by the lovely people of fabs... here is the new thread to get every one motivated... Share hints, tips and recipes, goals or achievements and moral support to all those who need it. Good luck and lets get healthy for 2012.

"

Firstly, well done if you've owned up to the fact that you've got a few pounds to shift (like me!)

I'm on an 8-week course called I WILL, which means cutting down on alcohol, eating 5-a-day and doing more exercise. I've done this a couple of times - and it's not easy - the weekends can spoil all the hard work done during the week

I would recommend checking out a resource called LIVESTRONG dot com which has some excellent advice on health and nutrition and helps you keep a food diary etc

Also (tear yourself away from 'Stenders and Corrie); buy a decent pair of walking shoes, load up your MP3 player with some up tempo music (135 to 140 bpm) and go power walking!!! I do about 45-minutes; five times a week to help with my goal of 10,000 steps a day.

Hope this helps?

I joined WW last night and although they didn't give me a target weight I want to lose 4 stone and go down to a size 12.

I'm aiming to do this in a year.

Just been reading through all the stuff they give you and it's amazing how much you can eat! I already walk 2.5 miles a day but starting Zumba this week too

Glasgow - ish ;-)

Going back to the 80's was a trend for "Callanetics" It works tiny precise movements but there intense. It's more body sculpting than weight loss. You can gain weight but drop dress sizes. It also decreases your appetite

I started at a size 22, i did 2 x 1 hour classes per week for a few months, and dropped to a size 14. It's fast! However, the hour long classes work all areas of your body, so after each class every muscle ached for a couple of days.

Going to a class helped with the motivation, once the re-shaping kicked in? I was able to do it at home using a video.

There are some Youtube clips around and I know there are some versions of Callanetics still going in Glasgow.

Zumba is fun and its cardiovascular and fat burning, but it doesnt target the precise areas callanetics did.

Good luck to all! XxX MT

As everyone knows, the reason i decided to loose weight was simply for health reasons. My test results where so good last time they said i could come of all medication but had to be weened of it.

Today i went again, now what i want to tell you is, that although my actual weight loss has slowed down. Im 9lb lighter than she weighed me 10 weeks ago. My health has improved even more. My sugars where 5.5 last time, they are now 5.1. I asked her to reconfirm whether this means im no longer diabetic and her answer was, at the moment i am still classed as diabetic, i have to be tested every three months for a year. Once the year is up then i will no longer be classed as diabetic, my pancras is producing a healthy amount of insulin and whatever else the weight was causing has gone. After the year i will no longer be classed as diabetic. However, i am more at risk of getting it again than if i had never had it. My cholestral last time was 4.1 well within the normal limits, she changed my dose of medication to the smallest you can have and since i last went it has come down to 3.4, i am out of every single risk catogary, apparently if you are more at risk to heartattacks they like it to be below 4.0. Apparently not many peoples cholestrol is as low as mine without some medication. She has given me the option to stay on the lowest dose or come of it completely as aparently there are some benefits to being on it.

So basically what im saying is, if like me you reach a stage where your weight loss does slow down, dont get disheartened because you are still going to get the health benefits by eating a good sensible diet. My bmi is 33 and it was 54. She also said not only have i added years to my life ive added quality years

Karen, that is brilliant news, you really deserve the rewards of your efforts.

You have done this all yourself. OK, you've had help from the group and from your friends and family in the support they've given you, but it's your single minded determination that's been the key from the start.

How is everyone doing? My plan was to drop from a 36 waist to 34 waist before the end of the month. Success.......

Not just squeezed ino my old 34" waist but a comfortable, easy fit.

32" waist by Easter is next target.

Have just been reading all the posts on here, I need to lose weight for health reasons too, I am diabetic, have high cholestorol but also have problems with my thyroid, plus I am bordering on having osteoporosis, (brittle bones just in case some peeps not sure what that is, so I have a problem, I know I need to cut calories, and reduce portion size, which is easy enough for me to do, not have too much sweet stuff cos of the diabetes, but I also have to eat and drink stuff that is high in calcium, so I feel that I am in a catch 22 situation, and it's one I feel I cannot get out of. Anyone got ideas please?

time for a boring(ish) diet

chicken fillets, trimmed pork steak, lean beef, boiled, grilled or baked fish, brown rice, wholemeal bread, new potatoes

nuts and seeds are often a good source of calcium as is most leafy green veg and herbs

dairy products that are low in fat (or lower fat) should also be ok

exercise that makes you sweat - a longish brisk walk etc - is also good and shouldn't interfere too much with your potential osteoporosis as more vigourous exercise may do

don't feel like it's the end of world, change things one thing at a time and have yourself a treat once in a while - as long as the amount of good stuff you consume outweighs the 'bad' stuff, you will be on a winner.

the practice nurse at your gp's should also be able to assist you with diet tips and an exercise plan to suit you.

yup totally

i am diabetic and have high bp and acid reflux

funnily enough, my cholesterol is OK

think i did most of the damage in my 20s when i ate badly, drank a lot and led a largely sedentary life.

since i was told i was diabetic 7 years ago, my lifestyle and diet have changed dramatically

i lost a lot of weight initially and thankfully most of it has stayed off

still carry too much like, but am far healthier now than i was then
