Private Number Plates

I feel that putting your name on your car as it’s number plate is a bit like peeing on your car as it doesn’t mean anything to anyone looking except you.

Do you agree? If so, what is the fucking point?

Btw I have two and both aren’t associated with my name

My dad bought us all one when we passed our tests. They are a bit wanky but I never forget my reg. When I have a motor that is.

I personally don't think that private plates should ever have been allowed. It is obviously a good way for the government make loads of money.

For me... I think that number plates should just be the ID of a vehicle and not a fashion accessory.

In some country's you only ever have one plate. When you buy a new car you register the new car to your plate.

Hiding in the shadows

I bought my son one for his 18th.

It was actually an 11 plate, but was a play on his name.

Took him til he was 23 to have a bike he could actually put it on though

Why not have private number plates?

I'm too tight to pay for one myself, but if someone wishes and is able to buy a significant ( for them ) plate, I'm not quite sure how that can offend .

I think if you've got an impressive vehicle or you have a nod towards a business you own, they're fine. Me personally would I have one on my fiesta, no cos it's a fucking fiesta.

I told her about the letter and said its a load of BS if I can't buy the one I want.

I hate having to remember the number plate of whichever car we have at the moment, a private plate makes it one less thing to have to think about.

It's no different than changing your pin number to something memorable when you get a new credit card really.

To buy parking tickets. If they change the car that much that they can't remember the plate then one would also assume that they constantly have to pay the transfer fee between each new vehicle. Choice between memorising a number plate whilst you purchase a ticket from a ticket machine that you should be parked close enough to it that you could look at your own car, just seems a pretty stupid reason to own one, in those circumstances.

I can't see that I would want to shell out potentially thousands of pounds just to have my name on my car. Would rather have a holiday or a new car!

There is one round here that drops off her kids at the private school that has a plate spelling out MILFY using 1s instead of the I. She's not what I would class a milf but guess someone thought so!

Private, personalised number plates, are usually fun, either to read (if it's witty) or means something to the car owner.

No big deal really, each to their own.

Yes, I've got some on my cars, but it makes it easier, when you're pulled over by the police

Some are also a good investment!!

I bought 4 around 15 years ago for £250 each , the one would sell for approx £2,000 now , and the other 1 approx £1,500 and 2 at approx £1,000

Not a bad return for when I decide to sell .

I like then when they match the car tbh.

For example a friend of my Dad’s had a 1953 MG TF 1250. It’s numberplate was 1250TF.

When I owned a Nissan 200SX I searched for “200SX”. Discovered it was on a Lambretta SX 200.

I like personalising everything I own. Screensavers/phone covers/ stamps on tools/controller stickers/punkd my guitar. A private reg is another way to add individualism to your property, sometimes another way to express yourself. I’d have a reg, if I had a pile of money to waste.

I was lucky for a time to drive a car with my initials, did I keep the reg? No, it would have cost money I couldn’t afford at the time.

Prívate reg doesn’t tell me anything....but if it’s on a BMW or Land Rover. that’s all I need to know to make a judgement.

I quite like them, hubby doesn’t have one as our car is a piece of shit and isn’t worth it. When we get a good car, we’ll maybe get one.

My dad (strangely, although some may find this sweet) has ‘mother’ personalised on his license. He got it when his mum died seven years ago. They were really close and her awful husband got rid of her will (which she had finalised with my dad and auntie only months before her premature death) so he didn’t get much to remember her by.

Bristol

I don't really get why anyone would have one, but then I suppose lots of people wouldn't get little idiosycrancies that I have. So if someone is happy to pay for a private plate I don't really care.

The advert had the single seater car with the slogan"The Durex family car"

Honestly, this sounds a GREAT idea.

A LOT of cars get hit in car parks

There’s a woman in my town that has a black ford kuga with the number plate

PA55NTS. even has a sticker next to it to show it says pants.

But personally i wouldn’t spend money on a number plate because they cost a lot.

Cheaper to change your name to your number plate by deed pole.
