Vaping - should the rules be relaxed

Jump to newest

By (user no longer on site) OP

It’s been in the news recently that MPs have concluded that some of the rules around Vaping should be relaxed.

The MPs believe transport and other public places should be more sympathetic to vaping. That means not bracketing e-cig users with smokers and banishing them to the street.

I must admit I don’t like the smell of some vapes and I still think not enough is known. So I don’t want vaping allowed in public places.

As you have said, there are no long term studies done on vaping so who knows what else could be going on.

Should laws be relaxed? Nope.

Think about this, you are out having a nice meal, nice resturant enjoying a steak or salmon and pooof hit in the face with some sickly sweet vape mist from some one next to you... No thanks.

From a 3rd party point of view, no I don't want to go home stinking of lemon barley garlic honey after a night out any more than I do tobacco.

No.

It’s unpleasant as a non smoker and vapours are used to the restrictions so why change them.

Some of these vape things can fill a room like a smoke machine can. It’s crazy.

No, in my opinion, even if after research, they had enough information to state it’s not harmful I still don’t think they should be used in enclosed spaces.

I am an ex smoker who vapes for the nicotine, but my vape doesn’t release any cloud whatsoever so I vape where I want, when I want and as far as anyone else is concerned I could be sucking my finger.

I used to love these debates but so many people haven't a clue in all honesty. 99% of them are non vapers.

There has been long term research into them. Sweden started 10 years ago, Japan even longer. This research was used when the government allowed them here.

It's not the same as smoking. It's like they same stuff that comes out of smoke machines in night clubs. That's not smoke either.

They shouldn't be treated the same as cigarettes in certain cases. No smoking them inside in any public place. I never walked around Asda smoking a fag so why should I vape.

You should be allowed to smoke them at the football for eg but I understand why you are not and I'm more than happy for it to stay that way.

So no. No buses, trains, any confined public space. No school playground or kids parks. It's not something we should advertise as cool.

Unless you can prove you are or were a smoker you shouldn't be able to get your hands on one.

They need to be seen as a quitting aid or alternative but not a fashion item.

I've almost had mine for 5 years now

What is people's main problem with vaping? Is it the smell? How about the smell coming off so many different perfumes, aftershaves and body odours?

Is it the cloud of "smoke"? That's just vapour, the same as you get off a boiling kettle, or a nightclub smoke machine or the smoke from a kitchen. Is it the nicotine? Tomatoes have nicotine in them, as do aubergines and some other fruits and veg. People have nicotine patches, chewing gum and other inhalers - these also put nicotine out in one form or another, but do people complain about these? No. I think people just enjoy jumping on the anti-smoking bandwagon without having any kind of real knowledge about vaping, because they see someone put something to their mouth, and "smoke" happens. People love to hate, and every other avenue to vent their ignorant hatred is closed off.

I'm a smoker who managed to quit for a while by vaping but fell off the wagon.

I think the rules for vaping should be the same as for smoking. Regardless of the fact not much is known about how safe/harmful vaping is it is antisocial and people need to be considerate towards others. Vaping is a great tool to help people quit smoking but shouldn't be treated differently.

Agree with you 100%. Why should the rest of us put up with "secondary vaping" so some folks can pollute their lungs via a completely unnecessary habit?

It's nothing but a commercial push by those who see yet another business opportunity with money to be made from fools.

Suppose it does have long-term effects will they give us "collateral damage" victims our lungs back and say "Sorry"?

Just take a look at the recent decision against Monsanto and the killer Roundup for how long it can take before some poor (dying) soul gets any consideration.

You want to vape? Be my guest. Go sit in a closed cupboard and vape to your heart's content. Leave the rest of us out of it!

Regarding the "cigarettes are good for you" claims, you obviously aren't old enough. The beneficial effects of tobacco and cigarettes were being well popularised in the early years and the quote about doctors smoking is very accurate.

I work in a hotel and it's bad enough having to walk through a crowd of guests who are gagging for a fag when I get to work to half 6 in the morning, never mind having to walk through clouds of vapour while I'm indoors at work. Never mind the fact that they set the smoke alarms off which then means that the whole building has to be evacuated.

There are no laws concerning the use of vaped in public or confined spaces so how can they relax them.

The evidence is clear that exposure to second hand smoke is harmful, which is why the UK has laws prohibiting smoking in enclosed public places and workplaces. These laws do not cover vaping and organisations are free to make their own policies on the use of e-cigarettes on their premises.

"What is people's main problem with vaping?

People love to hate, and every other avenue to vent their ignorant hatred is closed off."

I think it's because you can be walking along the high street minding your own business then woooof a cloud of disgusting smelly sickly candy floss hits you in the face, probably that.
