Winter cold/flu

Anyone else suffered with it? I've now suffered for 2 months with this year's outbreak. It's the longest I've ever had a cold. Unbelievable!

I've got a stinker!!

It's been going round at work and home for the last couple of months and I've managed to avoid it until now.

Hopefully won't last as long as yours though. That is a long time to have a cold?

All sympathy, I'm struggling to recover too, miss breathing through my nose and sudden coughing fits are tedious. Roll on warmer weather!

It's bounced around work. It eased up then came back over Xmas. Chuffing cough that came with it kept me awake for a week

I haven’t had it luckily smoking makes it hang around a lot longer

Think most adults know the difference between a common cold and the flu

Also had it twice and you're right you can't and don't feel like you can do anything.

Somebody once said the difference between between cold and flu is, if you had flu and it was raining £50 notes you wouldn't be able to get up and collect them!

You be surprised how many claim they have flu but still manage to get to work etc. Flu seems to mean a rather bad cold to a lot if people now a days

I've had a cold, sinusitis, cough, problems with my asthma since mid october. Can't shift it despite antibiotics for bacterial infection, extra inhalers, meds and steriods for my asthma. I'm feeling pretty rubbish and not looking forward to going back work today.

Had a bloody cold on and off since the beginning of December. Just as I think I'm over it oh no there it's is mext morning dry throats blocked nose front of my face feels like it will explode. Bloody annoying

I had flu and couldn't move from my bed my head burning up but my body like ice. Just shivered and slept and ached all over. 20 hrs i slept for in between waking up to be sick, cough up a long and take more paracetamol.... joyous

Ahhh the joys of winter and sharing space with the grubby general public

I started the first bout in October, which lasted me a good month and gave me such fun benefits like a chesty,itchy, hacky cough. Then two weeks into December I get the current 'flu, which knocked me flat for a week over Xmas. First full Xmas off in 17 years and I spent it in bed. Alone.

Roll on summer....

It used to only be given free to at risk groups. Our gp dragged me out of the waiting room while I was waiting for Mr N and gave both of us ours at the same time. I wonder if that's because we're over 60 though.

Over 65's offered it, but also if you are a carer, or have some medical condition that makes you more at risk. Had mine this year because of my medical condition. You can get them at pharmacies, but would have to pay, if you don't qualify on the NHS

Well I got a cold last Dec that I didn't receive anything for until around Apr which was a useless 1 week course of antibiotics from a registrar, then some steroids around June. I've been left with a cough ever since. Any time I get a cold it's horrendous usually taking out entire neighbourhoods but I cant get a flu vaccine - for some reason I don't really trust pharmacists either

I had a cold for 5-6 weeks. 2-3 weeks clear and i get the flu.

As someone mentioned, colds and flu are completely different things, so they're unlikely to give you a free flu jab. Why don't you trust pharmacists?

My mum had a terrible flu virus just before and over Christmas, i was worried it would turn into pnumonia as she was hospitalised last year (although she said they gave her a jab for that) and the cough is lingering

I've had a cold/sore throat/cough but no-where near as bad as she had it.

I think i'll get the flu jab next year.

Ah, bless her, hope she soon starts to feel better and you too. Hubby has had pneumonia jab, as he had it some years ago. You don't need it every year though. Could be worth getting the flu jab, I'm sure you can still have it now.

If your Dr wont give you the jab based on your medical history then why would a pharmacist so freely be able and then do so yearly thereafter. I realise they are highly qualified but I'd doubt they'd have my medical notes and I'd doubt I'd be able to tell them why I needed it. Can anyone really tell the difference between a bad cold and the flu, as I can't? Shivering, unable to eat, catch breath or breathe, are light headed, cough for prolonged periods and only go to the Dr's when symptoms are tolerable enough and you've likely forgotten the worst of them.

Your GP can give you a flu jab on the NHS if you have certain medical conditions that make you at risk. The pharmacist can do the same, after a consultation with you. If you don't fall into any of the qualifying categories, you an pay for the jab, about, £10.

I can. A bad cold is an inconvenience flu will take you down and keep you down. Unable to eat, raise your head or move. You'll hallucinate, every joint, muscle and sinew will hurt. Your eyes will hurt, your head will ache and your body will be as weak as a kittens.

I've had flu twice. Once as a child during an epidemic and once in my thirties. I never, ever want to have it again.

If you don't know the difference between a bad cold and flu you haven't had flu.

This bloody cold is getting on my tits and everyone I know has and still has it, just when I think I’m feeling better! I can deal with the runny nose but my ears, oh my ears!!

Works closed to visitors now because we’ve had so many residents go down with it, we’re short staffed because management have said anyone with it not to bother coming in because we will never get rid of it.

Roll on summer!

Its a prescibed very high dose because my vit D level was very low. Im not at home so cant say the exact dose.

I do have a disease thats linked to autoimmune disease. I have had endless blood tests for everything.

Iv been referred to an asthma specialist and am waiting for an appointment.

My job causes the problem and because i had been off work for over 6 months following an operation i am still building up resistance.

I've been left with a cough ever since. Any time I get a cold it's horrendous usually taking out entire neighbourhoods but I cant get a flu vaccine - for some reason I don't really trust pharmacists either "

Having the flu vaccine wouldnt help you with a cold.

For those with colds try the man flu shots from the supermarket - I have found them very helpful.

I couldn't get a free flu jab even when helping care for my Mum with cancer, but I just got one from Lloyds this year.

have to say that's awful - i had my first flu jab years ago when a past partner was having chemo - my daughter also had crohns and was ill at the time - surrounded by people with low immunity the dr just said to have it - i didnt even ask it was offered - i get it now because of the work i do - thats made e cross hearing that ggrrr

Yes it's really bad. All carers should be offered the jab.
