Depends on what you class as an old car...

Tested a new car at the weekend and I'm seriously considering getting one, made me smile so much driving it, great fun

He dream is to have something along the lines of a 67 mustang or and old school camero, I've just bough myself a 98 BMW to try and fix up. But the only problem is I've never done anything with a car in my life so this shall be a learning curve

For me you can't beat a classic car, they have style, class, but most of all they are unique.

I've restored several Golfs over the years and personally I found the Mk3 Golf to be a massive disappointment after the brilliance of the earlier versions.Controversial I know, but just my opinion.

As much as I hate Fiats,I've been trying to get a Strada Abarth 130TC to restore for a while now,not many around though and the ones worth doing a restoration on are silly money

Buy a cheap old knacker and a decent tool kit,and get stuck in!Google and owners forums will have all the info you need to do pretty much any job on a vehicle.Start with small jobs and build up to big stuff.Spannering isn't as difficult as people think once you start to understand how things work.Land Rovers are a good place to start as they're quite forgiving, not too technical and in general there's plenty of room to work on them.A rotten Mk1 Tdi Disco can be picked up for peanuts these days, they're easy to work on and spares are cheap and readily available.I'd say they're a great starting point for learning the basic mechanics of an engine and a vehicle. And if you want to learn how to weld there will be plenty to practice on with a cheap Disco

Did they do a 4 litre?.

I've had the 3.9 and the 4.2 but never seen a 4 litre.

I didnt actually like either of them to be honest, the stroke went to long for my liking on the 4.2.

I found the original 3.5 version best and very easy to get extra power from without the boring and stroke lengthening

The V8 Classic was available as a 3.5l,3.9l and 4.2l.They revised the 3.9l engine in 1995 and referred to the revised version as a 4.0l to differentiate between the two.Very few Classics have the 4.0l V8 but there are a few late ones with it in.The 4.0l was used in the Mk1 and Mk2 Discovery as well as the Defender.

I've had my car, a 1996 Potiac Firebird, for 14 years now and done many things to it.

It left the factory a fairly basic model - no electric windows or even central locking but pretty soon got both - using proper GM parts.

Also converted to T-Top.

Last year I replaced all the Shock Absorbers and drop links and uprated the front brakes to the 98-02 specification (but using slotted discs)

This year I am planning on fitting a Limited Slip Diff, upgrading the rear brakes from drums to discs, uprating the steering rack and rebuilding the engine.

Still love this car.

There's a saying that if you don't look back at your car when walking away from it, you've bought the wrong one.

I still do that now
