I'm from Norfolk and I've literally never heard this stereotype before. I asked my mum, aunt, grandma and cousin about it too and she said she had no idea either.

Iceland, but Aldi is closer..

There is a preconceived idea outside of Norfolk that investment is rife on the Broads and that the locals can eat an apple through a tennis racket..

Perhaps at one time this was true but nowadays it's probably about as true as the myth that all Essex girls are orange and wear white stilettos...

I can confirm that in the 20 years I have lived in essex I have never seen an Essex girl in white stilettos...

My dad's family is from Norfolk, most of the area is perfectly normal (and not just for Norfolk). That said the Fenlands have a definite reputation of inbreeding and whilst not endemic I have met a couple of people from that area that did make me wonder...

Talking of which, have you heard of 'NFN' OP? ... which apparently was an abbreviation used by medical staff on patients' notes to show they were 'normal for Norfolk', as in, implying they were a bit odd rather than ill per se.

I have no idea if this is true or not ...

On the plus side, combining that many relatives into one must save you a fortune at Christmas. Or when doing guest lists for weddings.

I moved to Norfolk several years ago and I can truly say there are some peculiar people in my village.....
