....is a pig. While I adore pigs, I'd rather not be called one.

Why is it that so many here (mainly in the 20's range) seem to think that "Hey babe, fancy a real meet" is likely to get me there?

Maybe it's just me.

Because they have no idea you don't like to be called babe. It wasn't a pig before the film came out. It's a very old term for a person, usually female but some use it for men too.

Possibly some people would see referring to someone by their profile name or first name as being cold. They prefer a term of endearment particularly where the profile name may work as a profile name but would be odd to use in interpersonal communication.

Do you feel the same when a 40 something calls you babe? I never use the term, I call my children by their names. Perhaps that's why you object to it so much.

Personally, I don't use hun, babe, love, darling, shit face or any terms of endearment to anyone. It's their name usually, although I have said 'allo 'andsome to a regular partner before.

Adam calls me babe, I like it when he calls me it but not when other men do..women don't bother me either.

I don't mind other men calling me Hun etc.

I tend to call everyone doll. Bad habit. Just tell me off and I may remember for future communication..I have a terrible memory though so it may take a few reprimands.

I don't like babe, hun, darlin or any patronising label.

When it happens I don't take any notice. I just form a judgement and act accordingly.

e.g. Gemma Collins/Amy Childs types are judged as superficial vacuous amoebas , upon whom, any reasoned argument would be a waste of both time and energy. I'ts their way of life. I'm not about to interfere in it.

No friend would ever use those terms to me. ( your friends can call you what they wish )

Men , on here, who start of that way are judged as having a narrow perspective but are allowed to get to 2nd base which is passed purely on how they look and sound after that

Sometimes if you just take the shitty wrapper off there's something good inside.

The thing is we don't know your particular foibles and special dislikes of certain words.

If a term is used in a nice way as a term of endearment, maybe it would be a good idea to take it as it is meant.

Living in Bristol men and women get called all sorts by all sorts. Andy is often "Darling" or "my lover" in shops etc. where there are female assistants and Lu very much the same with male assistants.

It is meant in a friendly way, the words themselves don't actually remove limbs or set your hair on fire, so why worry?

I'll regularly be referred to as babe, honey, lovely ect,in messages on here n It doesn't bother me at all and I'll usually mirror those terms in reply after receiving them first.

If it's me sending the first message I try to get a feeling of what would be suitable from reading the profile.

I'll use their first name if one is given or the username, also use hot stuff n gorgeous a lot with no complaints so far!

Don't see what the big deal is,I'm much more interested in the content of the message rather than the manner in which I'm addressed....unless it's something totally ridiculous like sparkly arse or hamster nipples......which I would just find very amusing

If it's in an opening or early message before any rapport has been established (or in some cases even after that), I can understand why people would find any use of endearments disconcerting. I certainly wouldn't use them straight off the bat or until it felt right to do so, as to me it comes across as a little presumptious
