Was having a discussion with a friend the other day about overrated music acts. One band we both could agree on as being in this category is the Doors. Any others?

Really?

Theres some of the best bands in the entire world mentioned on this thread, ok they may not be to your taste I get that, but that dosen't mean they are over rated.

The Beatles?

The Rolling Stones?

Led Zeppelin?

Jimmy Hendrix?

Bob Dylan?

These people paved the way for music as we know it today and are all legends and masters of there work. the very fact that we are still talking about them today proves that very fact.

I saw Bob Dylan just a few weeks ago, and The Rolling Stones, I admit Bob Dylan was shit, but that doesn't mean he is overrated as an artist, he's just not my taste in music.

Think this post shows how music can rightly have such differing opinions... Personally like many of the artists named on here, floyd, led zep, hendrix, stones whilst the Beatles have produced some fantastic tracks... In my life, long and winding road

Each to their own but some of the groups named have been very influential on other musicians so are they really overated?

Ive come to the conclusion that, because you personally dont like a bands/artists music, its just not to peoples taste not "shite" as many people describe it.

For instance, Prince's music is not to my taste, that doesn't stop me from admiring his virtuosity and skills, I could never lable him "shite" or "over rated".

some of the most interesting and gifted music artist who have ever lived have been mentioned above, surely you cant just brand them shit because you personally dont like them?

The Killers. The lyrics are nonsensical pretentious ramblings , almost as bad as Noel Gallagher's efforts.

Fleetwood Mac. Rumours sounds like it was recorded with the vocals in another county. They're way too quiet compared to the instruments.

Coldplay. I find them so uninteresting that I can't be bothered to have an opinion on them.

However, I love Queen, Hendrix, Nirvana, Blur, Rolling Stones. You can keep the Beatles though.

"Red Hot Chilli Peppers- live in Edinburgh just were flat with no atmosphere.

Nickelback get stick but in Manchester they were right up there with the. Est I've seen."

Wasn't there outrage a few weeks ago, because someone called RHCP "the poor man's faith no more" which is rather amusing, seems that moniker has stuck for 20 odd years.

Isn't this time period specific though? I can't really name anything before the Beatles maybe Elvis lol but these bands could be seen as the beginning of a new chapter

Ok maybe you don't get Pink Floyd, it may not be everyones liking, but please take into consideration that dark side of the moon spent a total of 917 weeks consecutively in the album chart smashing its closest rival (Bob Marley - Legend) to pieces who only managed 386 weeks.

Id suggest that some people do get Pink Floyd and to class them as over rated is simply madness,

Bob Marley was a great artist, and deserved his success, ground breaking guy.

Floyd, are over fluffed dirge. The Coldplay of their day. Yeah they can play their instruments, but good gawd, so dull. Like EastEnders for the ears. Popular, but lord knows why.

"The Killers.

Nell

yeh that rumours album by fleetwood mac is terrible its so bad its only been in the album charts for 652 weeks and is still in the album charts today

"Ive come to the conclusion that, because you personally dont like a bands/artists music, its just not to peoples taste not "shite" as many people describe it.

This is true of course. Except where Queen are concerned, they really are shite

Adele is a mad cat woman screeching over the top of elevator music and I'd rather ram rusty spoons in my ears than ever listen to Coldplay.

But for proper music you can't fault Frank Turner or Biffy Clyro
